Gun control is a growing issue as of late, due to recent events such as school shootings as well as crimes which are committed daily due to gun violence the issue has been more controversial than ever before. IT is true that by owing a gun you can feel a sense of self- empowerment as it can allow you to protect yourself as well as your loved ones. However, owing a gun is a double edge sword in today’s world. The reason is that with the sudden increase in gun violence more people have beganbegun to become anti-gun. The government does help by passing laws which will not allow certain people to own or buy guns. The problem with that type of situation is that those people can still own guns by going through a third party in order to receive a gun. Gun control is and always will be a key issue in today’s world.
First allow us to get into the pro side of owning a gun. I will start this argument by stating that guns are essential to anybody who understands how big the responsibility is when taking ownership of a gun; by being knowledgeable of how to use and how to keep your guns out of reach of our children you show an understanding of how a gun should be owned. You do not want to keep your guns loaded and want to keep them out of the reach of any child whom may live or visit your home. Guns are not for showing off how powerful they are, they are made to protect as well as to hunt.
Another pro I would like to bring up when it comes to owning a gun. A gun can allow you to teach yourself as well as others in your household responsibility. It is always a great idea to show them how to use a gun and also explain when it is appropriate to even touch a weapon in the first place. By teaching responsibility and making sure that yoursel...

...gun and going out to party while having that gun is irresponsible. This would not lead me to the path of owning a gun. Now for the con argument; I found it to be very disconcerting. Judging a person by owing a gun and making assumptions is no way to go about starting a gun related debate. Prejudgment is something that does not need to be included in the same picture. Guns are meant to protect, just because a person owns a gun would not mean they have cruel intentions inside their heads.

There have been several incidents where a child in the household has mistaken a gun for a toy and have mortally wounded himself and others with it. There have also been occasions where careless gun owners have left their guns loaded and have accidentally shot someone. Studies have shown that four people die each day due to accidental gun fire. Anti-gun users have pointed out that states that have relaxed their gun laws have had an increases in homicides. Also just because its anyone’s right to own a gun does not mean that they went through any sort of training to be able to use that gun. Most anti-gun users argue that most of these people who buy guns need to be properly trained before they can operate a gun, in order to prevent innocent and unnecessary harm or
Self-protection is one of the most common reasons for wanting to own firearms. Anti-gun control activists believe that they have the right to protect their family and their homes, two of the most important things in life (A man's home is his castle). An unknown author said, "A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.
...ter. Hunters and people who use guns for sport should have no trouble possessing guns if they are emotionally sound so it isn’t exactly a problem for anyone.

To start with, families in America needs a firearm to protect them from all sorts of terror. One type of terror would be getting robbed or kidnapped. According to Ralph Shortey, “ Door-to-door salesmen and jewelry peddlers has the right to show their firearms.” Ralph continues, “ Nothing will stop a criminal faster than seeing a loaded gun at the hip.” (Shortey “Should people Be Allowed to Carry Guns Openly?”)
Some of the deaths that were caused by gun violence was dealt to small children.Having a firearm in your home can cause a great risk if you have a child in your home because a firearm can be accessed by a child. In many situation the child is playing with firearm without adult supervision and end up either wounding themselves or end up dead. In America guns have been a part of the country’s society since it’s birth. Throughout history the citizens of the US have used firearms to protect the nation, protect their families, hunt for food and engage in sporting activities. The issue of Guns and gun control is complex. Weighing the rights and liberties of the individual against the welfare and safety of the public has always been a precarious balancing act. In the United States, gun control is one of these tumultuous issues that has both sides firmly entrenched in their positions. Those parties in favor of gun ownership and the freedom to use and keep arms, rely on the fact that the provision for such rights is enshrined in their constitution. In this climate of growing violence, rife with turmoil and crime, gun advocates feel more than ever that their position is justified. As citizens of the “Land of the Free” possessing a gun is a fundamental right, and may even be a necessity... Anti- gun lobbyists point to the same growing violence and gun related crimes in an effort to call on the government to take action. By enacting more laws and stricter control, these people not in favor of guns feel society would be better safer.
People against gun control feel that it is a violation of the Constitution to control the sale and distribution and the registration of guns and gun owners (Band, The Editorial 2) . But it is necessary for there to be certain limits on the way that firearms are handled in this country because of the homicide rate involving guns, and because of the violence created by criminals using guns. If gun control legislation were to go through; there would be a significant decline in gun related crimes and fatalities (Sowell 2). Gun control should be control in this society, and laws should be enforced. Gun violence, protection, and safety and fall into this category. The laws should protect people’s safety and also people’s self-defense. I do believe that gun control has a big impact on society because of: gun violence, gun laws, and people’s protection (Sowell
Over the years some of the reasons to own guns have changed. As Americans moved west fulfilling Manifest Destiny, making new towns along the way which were far away from any established law. These people made laws through the barrel of a gun. Of course crime still happened, but not nearly as often, when the townspeople simply hunted down and shot the criminal. Eventually, police forces arose in the Midwest, and fewer people carried guns with them on the street but they were still there, visible or not.
The founding fathers stated in the constitution that individuals are allowed to possess firearms. Ownership of firearms is essential for the general population. It is much better to own a gun and not ever need to use it than to be in a life or death situation in which a gun could save your life, but not have access to one. Home burglaries are a real occurrence and a firearm can ensure that you and your family aren’t harmed. If there was ever a larger terrorist attack, gun owners would be more appreciated. Those in favor of gun control would realize that firearms aren’t so bad after all. Also, the government should not have to regulate how many guns a person can own. There are many gun enthusiasts who enjoy weapons and collect them living in the United States. America is a free country and that is what makes it so great. If an individual wants to own a crazy amount of guns, he should be able to as long as the law is not being broken and no one is being harmed. Just as other citizens are allowed to have extensive collections of random things, gun owners should be allowed to do the same. Firearms help prevent freedom and liberty from being taken away from the American
As it is stated in the second paragraph, having guns can result in accidental shootings. There have been stories about children injuring themselves with a gun because it was loaded and was not properly kept hidden away by the family. Another example is that there would be an increase in emotional killings. Emotional killings is also another important reason why people should not own a firearm. There are many families that go through tough times and if they have in their possession a firearm there is a high chance it will be used harm
In 1968 Congress passed the Gun Control Act. This act regulates interstate commerce in firearms, making it so that you must be a licensed manufacturer, dealer, or importer. The Gun Control Act was the first attempt at restricting easy access to a firearm. In 1976 the District of Columbia City Council prohibited it’s residents from owning a handgun. Dick Anthony Heller sued the district in 2007 for denying him the right to keep his handgun in his home on Capitol Hill. In June 2008, the Supreme Court ruled the District of Columbia’s handgun ban was unconstitutional. The people of this country believe in their reserved rights, Mr. Heller’s fought for his second amendment right and won, showing the spirit of democracy. Since the Columbine High School shootings in 1999, 27 separate mass shootings have left five or more people dead each time. These randoms acts of violence have taken place in schools (Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech), the workplace (Fort Hood), movie theaters(Aurora, CO) , and even in the church (Charleston, S.C.). Everyday seems to bring new tragedy involving guns, but is it the gun that is killing people or the operator? As with anything, there are pro and cons to the right of own a firearm. With a firearm in your possession, you can protect yourself and your family from just about any threat. Having a gun gives you power over your own life, but this power also extends over someone else life
Over the past few decades gun control has come to the fore front of debate in politics and the mass media. It's no wonder that in the wake of the recent school shootings and attacks on churches that people are beginning to fear guns. People are beginning to see guns as an object of death and destruction and not as what they are meant to be. While guns are used in war they are not intended to kill innocent people, guns are intended to be used by experienced gun handlers for protection and hunting. When used properly a gun is no more dangerous than a car or a knife, all of these can be used in crime but none of them are intended to be.
Statistics on the National Safe Kids Campaign Website reveals that “Americans possess nearly 200 million firearms, including 65 million handguns. Approximately one-third of families with children (representing more than 22 million children in 11 million homes) keep at least one gun in the home. Gun owners keep firearms in the home for hunting and recreation (60 percent) or for protection and crime prevention (40 percent)”. Although 40 percent seems to be on the minority, households with guns are at higher risk of homicide, and there are few beneficial effects of gun ownership; as a result, alternative methods for crime prevention and protection should be adopted.
While growing up, I have never had a gun around my house. My parents were against owning a gun in the home. They told me from a young age that guns were dangerous. One can potential kill someone if one had one. I have never taken a side on the issue of gun control laws. There are many pros and cons about both sides of the argument. Therefore, I chose to point out the positives and negatives for guns. In 2005, I encountered guns for the first time when I married my husband who is a retired military NCO, who avidly collects guns for his collection. With servicing in many conflicts for the past 20 years, my husband was known for being the best gunner on Bradley fighting vehicle in the Army. My husband concurs with the current gun control laws and my perspectives changed about the positives and negatives of what needs to be done with weapons now.
