The Pros and Cons of Animal Testing

Almost every medicine that can be found in an average person’s medicine cabinet has been tested on an animal at one point or another. A government funded corporation called the Food and Drug Administration, abbreviated as the FDA, is in charge of making sure that all drugs, cosmetics, biological products, and more are efficient, secure, and safe for human usage. The FDA will not allow any drug to be released or sold to the human population if it has not first been tested on animals. In fact, when a drug is first created it is tested on animals before humans are even allowed to test the drug at clinical trial centers. Whether or not animal testing should be done for scientific purposes, has been a widely argued topic for many years worldwide. However, the idea that humans, as the superior species, have the right to continue testing on animals to increase the life span of humans, along with curing fatal disease that threaten human life is proven through factual information, statistics, and well educated disputes of counterarguments.

Much like many other topics that are frequently argued and are causes of heated discussions, animal testing has both pros and cons that can help determine where a person stands on the issue. One of the more serious cons related to this topic is that by testing on animals humans can very well be writing a death sentence for an animal such as a rat, mouse, bunny, etc.. Another serious negative aspect that revolves around this topic is that by testing products on the animals to see if the product can be used to create a cure the doctors and scientists must first infect the animals with the disease they are trying to cure. As more and more people become aware of animal testing it is crucial that they understand both sides of the widely debated topic and have a clear understanding of the outcomes that might occur if animal testing is stopped and if it is allowed to continue. If humans wish to continue finding cures and lessening the number of fatal diseases then they should take a stand and allow animal testing to continue because everyone can get a deadly disease but if animal testing is stopped than when that person gets the diseases doctors just might not have a cure. Humans are the superior species and they should take advantage of this, as it is their right to do all that they must to survive.
