Bob Dylan
"When I was fifteen and I heard 'Like a Rolling Stone,' I heard a guy like I've never heard before or since. A guy that had the guts to take on the whole world and make me feel like I had 'em too..."
- Bruce Springsteen
The Grammy Awards ceremony in 1991 was not all that different from those which preceded it. A crowded auditorium littered with the beautiful people of Hollywood and the music industry once again gathered in Los Angeles to honor the year's most popular recording artists. However, at the time of this year's awards the country was in the midst of its first significant military action since the Vietnam conflict. The threat of a full-scale ground attack loomed on the horizon and the nation seemed overwhelmingly united in favor of war. At one point in the evening the wily Jack Nicholson rose and made his way to the podium to present the year's lifetime achievement award. This year's recipient was somewhat of a sharp contrast to the high profile event that the Grammys had become. The 1991 Lifetime Achievement Award for music went to none other than Robert Zimmerman, aka Bob Dylan, a musician whose monumental contribution to contemporary music had occurred nearly thirty years prior to this evening. After a brief introduction the lights were dimmed and all attention was directed to a slight, haggard-looking gentleman dressed in black. He faced the audience solemnly holding a guitar, his eyes hidden behind dark sunglasses. Behind him a band began whaling a tantric and ferocious melody, yet not an eye shifted from the prophet who stood before them.

The “Stand Your Ground” law was first adopted in the state of florida in 2005. This law did not gain national attention until the shooting death of unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin, in Sanford, florida, where the shooter, George Zimmerman used the “Stand Your Ground” law as his basis for defending himself against Trayvon Martin to the Sanford Police Department. However, George Zimmerman’s legal defense team did not utilize the law to argue his innocence during his trial. But the damage had been done because soon after other cases in florida began to sprout up with “Stand Your Ground” as the driving force.
Zimmerman was asked by a dispatcher to stop pursuing Treyvon Martin. The “Stand Your Ground”

..., while a cell undergoes cell cycle, when a cell comes in contact with another cell, it stops reproducing. However, cancer cells continue to duplicate repeatedly until there is a mass of cells or a tumor to form (see figure 9). Lastly, in cell division when there is a mutation or abnormality in the DNA, a normal cell stops dividing. However, a cancerous cell will continue to duplicate and form mutations (“Cell Biology and Cancer”). Also, cancer cells are harmful because they grow and duplicate with complete disregard to the functions and limitations of the body (see figure 10). Also, cancerous cells have the ability to spread through metastasis throughout parts of the body through the bloodstream. In terms of similar behavior to that of normal cells, cancerous cells also duplicate, but at a very different rate ("Cancer Cells vs. Normal Cells: What's Different?").

You understand?” Katniss is pressured by Haymitch to say she is deeply in love with Peeta in order to avoid them getting into trouble for switching the rules of the game. Katniss does not feel this way about Peeta but she proved to the audience she does, which is why she stays alive. The characters in both Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games display very similar types of pressure.
Some of the most well known composers came to be in the in the classical music period. Ludwig van Beethoven was one of the composers, along with other greats of the time like Haydn and Mozart, which helped to create a new type of music. This new music had full rich sounds created by the new construction of the symphony orchestra.
Athens and Sparta were the main rival poleis in Ancient Greece around 4th century BC. Besides the fact that they were both called polis, the two cities had very little in common. Athens controlled the whole Attic region and could be defined as a perfect democracy. Its citizens were free to express themselves in public, the government was a representative body for the whole society, and justice was the highest measure. Sparta was a strict military polis, with two kings and officials selected by wealth and good breeding. Its political system was defined as oligarchy and all aspects of the social life were aimed at improving the armed force of the state.
Jacobson, Mark. “Chuck Berry, the Father of Rock, Turns 75.” Rolling Stone. December 6, 2001:
Many of the differences between Sparta and Athens were related to their similarities. Sparta and Athens were slightly separated by geography, but their differences spanned much further. Slaves, for Athens were expected, but for Sparta, they were formally declared as enemies. The tradition common in both cultures was strongly encouraged, however Athens chose to preserve cultural elements, whereas Sparta chose to emphasize their milatiristic components. Even Spartan children were "drafted" at an early age, whereas Athenian children were expected to learn philosophy from some of the world's greatest thinkers. Athens eventually decided to establish their own military force as well, but instead of having an infantry, they developed a naval force which was unrivaled in their
Each had their own version of political councils that were give specific power and tasks that they were to oversee and uphold. Equally, both city-states defined citizens as being only males who were born from descendants of either Athenian or Spartan born parents. Although very similar in structure, Athens and Sparta had their political differences. The main difference being Sparta’s focus being on war and employing a two king system to oversee the army as well as policy at the same time. Today this could be similar to the president and vice-president dynamic. Athens’ structure was much more complex than that of Sparta which gave more freedom to the people; this was partly due to breaking down regions into 10 separate states that formed the larger entire state of Athens. Below are some of the similarities in there government

Oh TV, what would I do without you? Admit it; this is how most of us feel about television. Television has been around for more than just a couple of decades in this society and it is no surprise that television is indisputably one of the most important inventions in modern history. Television which was originally seen as a sign of wealth has now become a standard in this society. Television is the primary news medium for today’s society; along with that it is the primary source of entertainment for us, from sources such as comedy shows, reality TV, game shows, and even sport competitions. While it is true television is important to us, has television brought more help or hurt to society? While it is true there are negative effects that television has brought upon this society, the beneficial contributions of television outweigh the negative aspects of television.
Television has attracted young and old viewers since “broadcasting began in 1940’s”. Throughout years studies have been made on what is probable to happen from watching TV. Recent studies have clearly proven that television doesn’t only have an effect on people as individuals but also as a whole. Television is known to have negative as well as positive effects on various parts of the world. Researchers traveled throughout many countries and found that in some cases watching TV has been healthy but in others it caused controversy.
Watching TV can be a positive act in your day-to-day life. When watching certain television shows you learn different life lessons. Shows like the educational channels, history channels, and other related channels are good shows to watch and can make you look at things a little differently now that you have watched it from a different aspect. You can get a lot from watching these particular kinds of shows, because wants to see how it works and how others do it on the television, its makes you want to go out and experience it a different way. For example, I knew somebody who was talking about having a child at a very young age. We were at her house one day and we were watching
The history of television is a long one, but shows how it has been widely accepted into our everyday lives. Television has had a huge effect on the United States, shaping multiple facets of everyday life such as politics, news, and sports. In an article titled “History of Television” written by Mitchell Stephens, a professor of journalism and mass communications at NYU, he states that, “Few inventions have had as much effect on contemporary American society as television. Before 1947 the number of U.S. homes with television sets could be measured in the thousands. By the late 1990s, 98 percent of U.S. homes had at least one television set, and those sets were on for an average of more than seven hours a day” (Stephens 1). It is clear that television has had a huge impact on our everyday lives. In addition, television generally consumes a large portion of each day of our lives. It is unrealistic to assume that television has not taken a serious and large position in the everyd...
