What are some of the reasons as to why print media is on the decline?
According to Nielsen's survey on readership for local newspaper, The New Paper, a 2.5% percent dip has been recorded from 2012 to 2013. The latest survey found a decline in readership of 459,000 to 363,000. The drop in readership was in line with all the other major newspapers, which experienced readers gradually moving from print media to online media (Othman, 2013).
According to Pew Research Center's Journalism Project, the overall drop in newspaper circulation began in 1989 and has been at a gradual decline of 1% a year since (Pew Research Center's Journalism Project, 2007). 1989 is also the year of the birth of the World Wide Web(Home.web.cern.ch, 2014).
However, Nieman Journalism Lab proves that 96% of newsreading is done in print editions (Journalism.about.com, 2014). According to The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) which was released in 2014, newspaper circulation has increas...

When discussing the media, we must search back to its primal state the News Paper. For it was the News paper and its writers that forged ahead and allowed freedoms for today’s journalism on all fronts, from the Twitter accounts to the daily gazettes all must mark a single event in the evolution of media in respects to politics and all things shaping. Moving on in media history, we began to see a rapid expansion around 1990. With more than 50% of all American homes having cable TV access, newspapers in every city and town with major newspaper centers reaching far more than ever before. Then the introduction of the Internet; nothing would ever be the same.
Taking these three points that I have discussed thus far, it is no wonder why I feel that print media is a far better source of obtaining accurate information. It is difficult to find glitter and flash on paper, therefore the meat must come from the facts. Unlike electronic media, with all their flash and glitter, whose focus is to find something that, the public would enjoy watching so that they can achieve their goals of ratings and profit. Because “…There’s No Business, But Show Business” (Postman, 98)
Newspapers are great for people who are interested in what is happening in a community. They provide, “information about the who, what, when, where, and how events in the past” (59). In addition to the providing of information, newspapers also can be the cause of mood changes in a community. Even though they can not imform the public on a readers thoughts, “ they can tell us what information and opinion readers were being exposed to, and circulation figures can indicate the populatity of
The decline of newspapers has been widely debated as the industry has faced down soaring newsprint prices, slumping ad sales, the loss of much classified advertising and precipitous drops in circulation. I don’t think that the old ways will ever truly disappear, but they are used less and less.
The internet is our modern source for news media; the importance of the newspaper has not only declined, it is in a sense, obsolete. We now turn to the internet for opinions, news, and entertainment. Even though the way in which we consume information (PBS) has changed, the importance of an unrestricted and watchful media has not changed. (Magleby, Light, & Nemacheck, 2010)
Have you ever wondered how the media is constantly affecting your opinion or views on everyday topics? When the mass media was created there were two types: the print media, which consisted of newspapers and magazines or there was broadcast media that came through the radio and television. Over the last 50 years electronic journalism has become very significant. With the technology advancements we have today the types of mass media have been merged together so no matter how you choose to view the media it will be published everywhere.
As our society progressively expands, so does technology along with our needs in regards to different preferences in how we obtain news. While some remain loyal to more traditional ways such as TV news, radio, and newspapers, we have a new and high demand of those who seek information from other resources like snapchat, google, twitter, etc. While the number of staff members declining in the newspaper business might seem like a negative thing, it might not be as adverse as people believe. The article by Hare comments how 27 years ago there was a staff of 350, since then they have only retained roughly 100 employees. Those who remain employed in the newsroom are given the opportunity to do more substantial work than ever before. Despite the

For years, the population has been exposed to different forms of media. Newspapers, magazines, television, films, radio, and more recently the Internet are ways of promoting ideas, spreading news, and advertising products.
Due to the global spread of printing press in the 16th century, the earliest newspaper was born. According to Bellis (n.d), the earliest paper that published weekly is called Relation in Antwerp. The emergence of the internet created a new age in communication across time and distance, becoming a preferred medium for the newspaper industry. As the internet grew, we start to see printed newspaper circulation has starting to decline in the 20th century (Li, 2006). A digital newspaper is defined as a publication on the World Wide Web. Such site use hypertext mark-up language and other computer assisted graphic devices to present text and graphic containing news information on a computer screen (Gunter, 2003). The support for online newspaper is strong, as the internet offers new opportunities for presentation and news deliveries. Over the years, the digital newspaper industry had grown exponentially and is expanding continuously, it has become a major role in communication and information distribution. In this essay I will examine the difference between digital and printed newspapers,...
The revolution between traditional media platform to online and mobile media sources have change greatly throughout the past decades. With the time it takes for news to present its’ information quickly, online media provides the ability to access information and news ahead of traditional media. Especially with technology, receiving information can just be an arm’s length away by your smart phones or other electronic devices. Especially with Information Technology growing at a constant rate, consumers therefore are transitioning from traditional types of media such as newspapers,
The newspaper industry presaged its decline after the introduction of the television and televised broadcasting in the 1950s and then after the emergence of the internet to the public in the 1990s and the 21st century with its myriad of media choices for people. Since then the readership of printed media has declined whilst digital numbers continue to climb. This is mostly due to television and the internet being able to offer immediate information to viewers and breaking news stories, in a more visually stimulating way with sound, moving images and video. Newspapers are confined to paper and ink and are not considered as ‘alive’ as these other mediums.
Although the future of newspapers and print media is very gloomy right now I think that once the newspapers that were revered and respected in their heyday develop a model that can incorporate and transition traditional news along with current web and online media at a reasonable rate and with the high quality that we have been known to expect I think that newspapers will make a surprising comeback and will be once again at the head to the public sphere and will be viable and thriving online entities.
Nowadays, the popularity of these media is more to electronic media than printed media because their trying to dominate each other. A printed media have its own importance and popularity which cannot be replaced by anyone else. When though there is a tight competition between the newspapers and electronics medium among variety of newspapers increasing day to day which has made the print media cheaper, qualitative, informative and fast. The printed media is more accurate information details. The electronic media just hire people based on looks rather than journalism skills because the journalists and editor of newspapers are more efficient and experienced. The utility of print media will always remain informative to help the user. Printed media on deeper research of particular topic
