Teaching
The most obvious advantage of using information technology in teaching
and learning is the flexibility for learners to get access to
computers. Now that computers have become common, learners can get
access to the Internet and engage in study at any time, any place and
at their own pace. This is the reason why distance learning has become
so common nowadays.
Another advantage of information technology is its versatility. Other
than just sounds, computers can produce colourful graphics, which will
greatly enhance the learning outcome as learners will retain the
majority of what is taught through sights rather than sounds. Besides,
compared with humans, computers have absolute superiority in
generating attractive graphics. In a nutshell, a picture is worth more
than a thousand words.
Besides, computers can provide instant feedback to learners when they
are doing exercises or practising. Learners don't have to wait for

Today, many classrooms in America are “inclusion” classrooms which means, that students with and without disabilities can learn together in one classroom (Inclusive Classroom: Definition, Strategies & Environment). It is often argued in classroom settings in regards to is it beneficial or not. The answer to that is not black and white. In the last decade, increasingly powerful technologies have begun to make their way into classrooms across the nation. Many classrooms are now equipped with personal computers that run educational software to help teach students facts and concepts in a more engaging way than a traditional lecture. Advances in telecommunications technologies have led to almost universal access to the Internet, allowing students and teachers to communicate with people from around the world and gain access to a wealth of educational materials. New ways of obtaining and presenting information have given students powerful new methods for understanding the world around them. However, while use of technology in the classroom has been shown to be highly beneficial for students, it is important to note that without a well-planned technology support system, this expensive educational technology often goes under- or mis-utilized..
From personal experience technology has improved the way I learn and has made it easier to students to collaborate with each other in order to improve our learning. To conclude, technology should be used in school’s curriculum and instruction because of improved communication, innovations to come and convenience to both the students and the teachers.
“One of the things that we do know is that when students have technology available, they tend to move faster than we expected” (Schrum, n.d., para. 13). Computers also help students to try and do things that they have not been secure in doing before. All students, at any level, with any interests, can benefit from the technology. By comparison to the pros and cons of the use of technology, there is a succeeding number of pros. Where for instance, the internet allows us to develop new ways to learn from one another; which motivates us to learn outside of the classroom also with fellow peers. Where we learn within one another from either other countries or the world.(Source 3) This mostly comes from social media such as, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Though we also learn a fair share while playing video games, learning hand-eye coordination by playing excessively. These benefits I believe include excitement, flexibility, motivation for more students, which will cover a wide age-range, learning styles, and many different topics. They also will help create a personalized learning environment. As an educator, I have learned how these modifications in technology can help to motivate, engage, and enhance the learning of my students. Thornburg (2009) “…some technologies have the potential to shape and reshape educational practice in the next few years” (p. 9). During this course, we have discovered and discussed various benefits as well as challenges associated with adopting new technology. These resources and interactions have been influential in helping me focus more on the benefits, and they have given me tools to address the challenges. While there certainly are drawbacks, the benefits that technology brings to education clearly outweigh the negatives. With technology, students have been opened to more opportunities to learn from the wide variety of resources technology has to offer. According to the article “Use of Technology in Teaching and Learning” from www.ed.gov by the U.S Department of Education, the U.S Department of Education states that, “Used to support both teaching and learning, technology infuses classrooms with digital learning tools, such as computers and hand held devices… builds 21st century skills; increases student engagement and motivation; and accelerates learning.” In other words, by giving out more opportunities for students to learn, technology has benefited the area of education by making learning more effective and accessible. One example of how technology has promoted education is the Internet, an online resource that has made obtaining information easy and accessible. By using the Internet, students have been able to increase their educational productivity and better utilize their time when learning. Assessing student progress in the classroom is a vital part in being a good teacher. When teachers assess student progress it allows teachers to not only see how well the students are comprehending the material being taught, but also how well the teacher is instructing his/her class. Without teachers assessing students both through formative and summative assessments teachers have very little way of knowing how well their students are learning and how well they are doing their jobs. There are a ton of ways technology can be used to help teachers assess their students. This essay will cover the different types of technology that can help teachers assess their students and the pros and cons to using technology to do so.
Technology is becoming more and more dominant in our society.Everyday upgrades are being made and new innovations are being discovered. Technology is all around us whether we want it to be or not: it is the vehicles we drive, it can be found in our homes, and can even be found in the grocery store.Every place we look there is some type of technology.I believe technology has had a major impact on our school systems and is still impacting it today.There are those who do not agree, though, that technology has impacted our schools.Eric Gormly writes, “In fact, many theorists point out the overall impact of technology on education has been quite small, manifesting little discernible change in the classroom.” [1]Yes, there are some schools that are not as advanced as others, but many of them do have a significant amount of technology in them.I find it fascinating that so much technology has been incorporated into our classrooms, but I believe that, even with all of the positive aspects that are associated with technology, there are some negative and even dangerous aspects that should be taken into account.I will be sharing some of the equipment that has been used in the schools, how both the students and the teachers use the equipment, and also the positive and negative effects that technology has had on our schools.
Not many people would argue that computer technology is bad for the K-12 classroom. There is, however, a serious and thought-provoking debate going on regarding computer technology in the classroom. At issue is to what extent and at what age should computers be integrated in American classrooms. There is no question that a certain level of technology will bring improvements in academic achievement. In one study on children of low socioeconomic status a definite improvement was seen. It was noted that, “Increasing the technology available to students encourages, facilitates, and supports student achievement – at the elementary level, the most profound effects were found in the area of mathematics” (Page 391). Page also states that, “numerous studies have demonstrated that young children’s self-esteem or self-concept directly affects their academic performance” (Page 391).
Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).

Not only is the thought of viruses scaring off schools from using technology but so is the cost of the whole program. From the initial cost of the computer or tablets to the maintenance that goes into each computer. This can all be very costly and is often a deal breaker when talking about incorporating technology into school systems. In order for the schools to see this as a wise investment they have to have many plans to solve most of the problems that could occur. They are not going to be able to solve all of the problems only with time and more experiments will those problems be fixed.
In today’s world, technology is transforming conventional methods of every facet of human life; from the way that we grow our crops, to the way that we communicate with one another. Technology has opened our minds to new ideas and even to new places, such as space exploration. Simply put, technology means applying science toward an objective and the outcome is advancement in modes of construction.
Modern technology has made it so much easier to obtain educational information for classroom or homework assignments. It offers educational games that stimulate the brain and help children who have difficulties focusing on traditional teaching and learning procedures. College students are even taking advantage of online courses that many colleges are offering as an alternative to physically attending classes. Advances in technology and computers will continue to play an important role in education for many generations to come.
