Surviving Technology
Computers, Internet, electronics are all apart of technology. Businesses are being buffeted by an increasingly rapid rate of change. There are new products, new regulations new customers and new technology in almost every industry. Part of that new technology is distance learning. More and more of adults are taken advantage of it. It is very convient for that working adult with spouse and kids or the adult going back to school. However some adults are not as savvy with the Internet or computer. Both items are essential in order to become a distance-learning student. Therefore I have created a student survival guide that would be useful for a new online student.
Conducting Successful Library and Internet Searches
The Internet provides access to a wealth of information on countless topics contributed by people throughout the world. A user has access to a wide variety of services and access protocols. These protocols such as http and e-mail allow users to search and retrieve material.
The Internet is not a library in which items can be retrieved by a single catalog. No one knows how many files reside on the internet. The number runs into a few billion and is growing at a rapid pace. When As if you were traveling from place to place in the real world; you have to in a virtual environment. Look for every entrance to a topic and every potential door that may lay hidden behind that room with no apparent end. Therefore, it may seem daunting, but it is nothing more than changing the way you view your particular topic from a different perspective, or angle. It may be as simple as looking for the opposite or slightly off the topic in order to find the major you are looking for. Another good reference for researching the Internet is http://www.aresearchguide.com/ or A Research Guide for Students by I. Lee, he gives a lot of good information and places to start.
There are many different ways to search for information on the internet. Ultimately looking at a topic from many different points of view, can help you find the information you are looking for. The Internet is a very large set of computers. In a matter of moments, you can gather information that is been posted from around the world. As you view this information, everything you see becomes obsolete because the Internet is growing as fast as our humanity can create new ways to...

Whenever a person logs onto and begins to use a computer in the library, different kinds of information are automatically collected into transaction logs (Jansen, 2006). Sullenger (1997) recommends transaction logs “be examined by librarians to analyze how patrons use the catalog, what features they are using, and to see what areas of searching are problematic” (p. 21). Data can also be collected on “items viewed, sessions, site penetration; time online, users (trace evidence of, not individual information), navigational information” (Nicholas, Huntington, Jamali & Tenopir, 2006, p. 121). These data pieces provide useful information on usage patterns (Das & Turkoglu, 2009).
According to Ronald Hagler, the first of the six functions of bibliographic control, or information organization, is to identify the existence of all types of information resources as they are made available. The motive for identifying resources is obvious – one has to know a resource exists for it to be of any worth. This is true not only for libraries, but for all information providers. This paper will analyze how Hagler’s function is demonstrated by the St. Charles City-County Library District (http://youranswerplace.org/home), the Einstein Archives Online (http://www.alberteinstein.info/), and the domestic organization website, FlyLady.net (http://www.flylady.net/).
One of the wonderful things about the internet is how it makes life much easier if the information can be found in the convenience of the home instead of going to a library and making a day out of it. This is especially true if the internet offers updated information as soon as it happens were as a library may only update a few things every week or month at a time. It is truly remarkable how much information can be found and because of this it isn’t unbelievable that more and more people are using the internet instead of going to a library or using another service the internet can offer them. However, without organization and direction information is useless. Search engines offer this stepping stone by storing all the data in a manor that is searchable. Two of the major search engines are Google.com and Msn.com. Both offer great search engines and services, but have different styles and appeal to different audiences looking for different things.
How we get information in today’s society is very important. There is a wide pool of resources at our fingertips and it can all be accessible in seconds. For the most part we as a country have access to the Internet, whether it is by going to the public library, using a personal computer at home or at a coffee shop or through your smartphone or tablet computer. The Internet has become a popular source for retrieving information on practically any subject. This information can generally be retrieved in a matter of seconds. With the popularity of the internet as a research tool it’s important that the information received is reliable and accurate. In general, when one uses a search engine to perform a search on the internet, the quantity of information returned is astronomical. “In a world of information overload, it is often extremely difficult to get a grip on the correctness, completeness and the legitimacy of the information and material available in the internet.” (Prins).
Today, our society has access to mankind’s collective knowledge with the internet. Constantly updated, the internet keeps everyone in the loop. If there is a traffic jam, Google Maps will notify you. If there is a new movie release, Fandango will ask to reserve tickets for you. If there is a limited-time sale, Amazon will email you. Information constantly bombards us. The internet moves fast, and we must try to keep up to stay in
The internet is an universal collection of millions of computers and networks combined in a larger network. Therefore, no one owns or runs the internet. There are providers controlling each network and each network is locally funded and administered. The internet provides a ton of information varying from games to food recipes. It serves general knowledge on any topic and is available to anyone who can access it. All the information we are able to access are organized by using hypermedia, which uses hypertext. Hypermedia is a document embedded with references to audio, text, images, video, and other documents. Hypertext is a form of codes for links consumers can click on. One of the greatest things about the internet is allowing us to socialize with others wherever and whenever we want. We are able to communicate with our family and friends all around the world. However, what happens if in ten years from now, the internet becomes the Boutique Network. The Boutique Network is a reductive nonetheless de-centralized model of all networks. Our government and service providers are beginning to take control and altering the internet into independent intranets.
Before the creation of the internet, humans had no easy way of accessing any type of information. Individuals resorted to physical, written documents like encyclopedias, journals, newspapers, and magazines for the learning of new material; these were some of the only ways of evidencing claims and proving facts. After the invention of the World Wide Web in 1989, humans are now being constantly bombarded with deceivingly numerous amounts of information and media content. Since most of the 21st century generation was born with the aforementioned convenient means of discovering and learning new things, most people often bypass the influence they can have on their lives. The internet serves as a mode of mass communication,...

The Internet has made access to information easier. Information is stored efficiently and organized on the Internet. For example, instead of going to our local library, we can use Internet search engines. Simply by doing a search, we get thousands of results. The search engines use a ranking system to help us retrieve the most pertinent results in top order. Just a simple click and we have our information. Therefore, we can learn about anything, immediately. In a matter of moments, we can become an expert.
There has been a surprising change in society, which computer engineering has brought about . The Internet in particular is changing every activity of our daily lives. Today just about every advertisement on television, radio and in print carries a web address. It is not unusual for consumers to research a purchase on the Internet before buying. Websites offer thousands of pages of detailed information. Chat rooms and news groups attract many people with opinions t...
The Internet is one of the greatest inventions of humanity. It is a massive network of computers, each with the ability to access any of the others. Ungodly amounts of information can be found on the Internet. It is the ultimate form of media, a combination of newspaper, radio, and as the average bandwidth is increasing, television. Using
Thus, it is evident that individuals are faced with many issues in this economy based on information and knowledge. The gaps between individuals make it difficult to overcome the digital divide and get access to credible information. However, in order to overcome these issues, major changes need to occur in how the information is organized and presented through search engines.
