In today’s environment many suffer illnesses from pollution, and second hand smoke, and they seek for cleaner air. About five years ago, the health department was successful in banning smoking in public places and smokers needed to go outside unless companies set-up a designated area for smoking. Now, in Pierce County, smoking is banned in all public places such as restaurants, bars, casinos, hotels and taverns. This has caused an up roar with the business owners losing customers and money because of this ban. Within the health department satisfaction is in the environment because the workers will finally have working conditions that has clean air.
This has caused many businesses to decide on closing the doors after feeling a little taste of the impact in January. Some business had lost a least 30 percent of cash profits because of customers going to tribal businesses that are not in affect of this ban order. The article mentions that the Tribal owner has discussed the fact of opening another casino to accommodate the overload of customers who smoke from the businesses who cannot have smoking in their facility. Many owners see the connection of drinking and smoking with customers, some say this goes hand and hand. If a customer that drinks and wants to smoke in any establishment will not need to take it outside away from the building, this can be very inconvenient for the customer. If the customer or business owner does not want to comply, a $100 fine will be slapped from t...
The results of this study are consistent with the overall literature’s findings (Gallet, 2004; Meirer & Licari, 1997) that states with smoking bans have a decrease in cigarette sales. However, caution is warranted in the true reliability of the data presented in this study, because of the nature of the data.
No matter how an individual exposed to smoke, it is damaged. The only way we can guide ourselves from contact to secondhand is inside or outside we must forbid any smoking on the property altogether. Splitting smokers to non-smokers into restaurants and public places cannot retain non-smokers from being unprotected from secondhand smoke. Smoke-free areas in restaurants and public places are critical to an individual’s health risk. The key factor is that all public places, workplaces, homes, and vehicles should be smoke-free and protect an individual well-being of Secondhand
Imagine you and your family are at a nice restaurant, waiting to enjoy a great meal, or so you think. As you lean in to take that first bite, a puff of smoke surrounds you, your family, and your food. How pleasant is this? A big topic being brought to attention these days is whether or not smoking should be banned from all restaurants and other public areas. Smoking in public areas should be taken into close consideration. There are many reasons of why this is brought to attention. These include the harmful effects it can have on all people, smokers and non-smokers, as well as the environment, which most people would not consider.

Unfortunately, these actions weren’t enough to truthfully help protect nonsmoking Americans from secondhand smoke. Thousands of Americans were still incredibly displeased with allowing designated smoking areas in public places, claiming the smell of smoke still lingered and traveled through ventilation systems. They were right, the tar like mixture of the deadly chemicals found in tobacco was simply unavoidable. As a result, many healthcare organizations and buildings began to implement smoke-free campus policies by refusing to allow a designated smoking area. This initiative was taken even further by implementing the ban on hiring smokers in an effort to stop tobacco use and protect
Results of several researches from studies have proven that concentrations of tobacco smoke in public places possess the risk to individuals, children, and the environment. Even cigarette butts are equally hazardous for the environment and many creatures, especially in the sea. Cigarette filters are the single most picked up thing in international beaches cleaning every year [5]. Smoking ban can benefit in several ways – from saving of lives, the prevention of disability, to a dramatic decline in health care costs – majority of which are carried by nonsmokers who otherwise are impelled to pay exaggerated health insurance premiums and higher taxes. The recently laid ban on smoking in public places is a smart move. Support of smokers for smoking ban in public places is truly much-needed to make it successful. Smoking is extremely harmful to the health of nonsmokers and to nature; smokers should be self-discipline, socially responsible, and avoid smoking in restricted public outdoor areas even if no official eye is catching them.
This year alone cigarettes will kill over 420,000 Americans, and many more will suffer from cancers, and circulatory and respiratory system diseases. These horrible illnesses were known to come from cigarettes for years. Recently the Food and Drug Administration declared nicotine, the main chemical in cigarettes, addictive. This explains why smokers continue to use cigarettes even though smokers are aware of the constantly warned about health dangers in cigarettes. Some researchers have also found out that smoking by pregnant women causes the deaths of over 5,000 babies and 115,000 miscarriages. The only way to get rid of the suffering and loss of life by cigarettes is to ban them. . For years cigarettes have been known to cause cancer, emphysema, and other horrible illnesses. The deaths of over 420,000 of Americans this year will be do to cigarettes. With all the other causes of deaths, alcohol, illegal drugs, AIDS, suicide, transportation accidents, fires, and guns, cigarettes still count for more deaths than those do combined. We can’t stand and watch people die because they smoke cigarettes. Thousands of smokers try to rid themselves of cigarettes but can't because of additive nicotine. Nicotine was recently declared addictive by the Food and Drug Administration, which explains why many smokers continue to smoke despite the health warnings on cigarette smoking. Nicotine makes it almost impossible for cigarette smokers to quit smoking because of its addictive nature, and with the cigarette manufacturers putting just enough nicotine in the so they cant be outlawed. The benefits of outlawing cigarettes greatly outnumber the disadvantages, for example, many scientists believe a link between smoking and a shortened life span exists between the two, a ban on cigarettes could increase life spans. Many studies suggest that billions of dollars now spent on smoking related. Smoking related illnesses could be reduced by outlawing cigarettes, families could save money by not purchasing cigarettes, and accidental fires costing millions of dollars caused by cigarettes would stop. Although a complete ban on cigarettes currently remains almost impossible, several organizations recently helped create a bill that could control cigarettes much in the same way the government now controls drugs. One such organization, the Food and Drug Administration, headed by David Kesslar drafted a major part, which would require manufacturers to disclose the 700 chemical additives in cigarettes, reduce the level of harmful chemicals, require cigarette companies to warn of the addictive nicotine, restrict tobacco advertising and promotion, and control the level of nicotine cigarettes contain.
As businesses transition into a smoke free work place, the total environment is condemned smoke free. Twenty years ago, restaurants allowed customers to smoke, where as now that smoke free policy has risen there are almost no restaurants or bars that allow smoking in the building. The majority of a restaurant’s customers are non smokers; therefore the income of customers would increase because non smokers would not have to worry about second hand smoke. Based on Zagat’s Release of 2008 America’s top restaurants survey, “ The 2008 Zagat Survey “ America’s Top Restaurants of 132,000 Americans noted that “The verdict on smoking is overwhelming with seventy seven percent of diners saying they’d eat out less if smoking were permitted in local restaurants, and only two percent saying they’d dine out more.” (Par. 5). Due to the ban of smoking in restaurants, more non smokers are able to come in, therefore businesses are able to make more a profit and not be hurt by the smoking restrictions. According to the article, Smoke-free Legislation: A review of Health and Economic Outcome of Research, by EJ Hahn, “ A 2010 analysis of economic outcomes of smoke free laws stated,” there is clear evidence that smoke-free legislation does not hurt restaurants or bar businesses, and in some cases businesses may improve.” (Par. 5). The economy has started to cater towards the larger population of non-smokers in order to increase their revenue, but having smoke-free business they are enabling more of the population to feel comfortable coming into their business and taking a seat.
...aw, rendering it useless. A fine should be set at $250, with increasing severity for multiple offenses. The current ordanance does not contain this ever important increase for repeat offenses, and should thus be amended in "Sec.21A.300 PENALTY" to reflect this change. It is this clause which will keep people from smoking in public places, and this provision must also be added to make the ordanence effective in accomplishing its objective.
Seguire notes that, legislative smoke bans vary in their depth in different settings (2000). For instance, they are up in the air on the level to which they tolerate smoking or contain it to designated points and where those restrictions occur. Prohibiting smoking indoors, in restaurants and in bars could bring a start to a widespread smoking ban. It is worth noting that, exceptions may occur in different settings, for instance, nursing homes, prisons, and residential homes. Less extreme bans, such as those that allow smoking in designated rooms or rates create partial bans. Sen & Wirjanto believes that, smoking bans in Canada may have Potential to affect a great number of people in the populace at minimum cost. It is imperative to create a supportive environment for those who want to quit and help people who continue smoking to reduce their tobacco consumption
Michael B. Siegel’s “A Smoking Ban Too Far” argues that banning smoking outdoors has no contribution to public health. States that the smoking outdoors’ ban is much weaker case than indoors, consequently it could cause a backlash that could threaten the goals of the antismoking movement. Instead antismoking organizations should focus on extending the policies that prevent smoking indoors in the 21 states that still allow it. Siegel’s article is somewhat effective, because the claim is backed up with facts that show the experience of the author on the subject, however it lacks stylistic elements that would bribe the audience to accept Siegel’s claim.
Shirleen Simargi Jim Warren English 1B May 7th, 2014 Why Public Smoking Should be Banned For many decades, smoking has been known as the world's leading cause of preventable death and disease. Although hundreds and hundreds of studies have been conducted to prove how bad smoking is, people of various ages still smoke. The controversy about smoking starts rising again, this issue is commonly known as second hand smoke or passive smoking. Smoke that comes from burning a cigar or tobacco is called mainstream smoke. Besides that, the smoke exhaled by the smoker is also considered second hand smoke, commonly known as sidestream smoke.
Smoking is one of the leading killers in North America and innocent. people shouldn't die because of it. For years people have been smoking. in public thinking, "It's my body, I can do whatever I want to do." now that it has been proven that smoking not only harms the smoker.
Over 35% of the world population has asthma, that means they cannot inhale smoke. Smoking should be banned in public places because of many reasons; people’s health, the air that people breathe will be polluted and the food that is cooked wont be fresh. If smoking in public is not banned many people will stop visiting that place because they will feel uncomfortable. Majority of the people get annoyed from the smell of cigarettes.
As soon as someone lights a cigarette and puts it up to their mouth they are just asking for health problems to occur. Smoking cigarettes can cause many problems that affect not only the smoker, but anyone else that is around the smoker. Nonsmokers chose to not smoke because they do not like the health risks or negative effects caused by cigarettes. People that chose to turn cigarettes down should not have to still interfere with the negative effects of tobacco because smokers are too rude to just save the smoking until they are in their own home. People should be able to walk into any public place and not have to breathe in this toxic. Cigarette smoking should be banned from public places because the cigarettes affect anyone who is around
