In the play “Hamlet” written by William Shakespeare, the Prince of Denmark, Hamlet, has tragedy occur within his family. The play exaggerates the revenge the prince is called to create upon his uncle, Claudius, by the ghost of Hamlet 's father, King Hamlet. Claudius murdered his own brother and seized the throne and also married his deceased brother 's widow. Shakespeare portrayed Hamlet as a philosophical minded prince who delays seeking revenge on Claudius to prove Claudius’s guilt. Hamlet’s most notable metaphor “to be or not to be” (3.1.53) utters his own existence in the play. Hamlet’s character is not only shown in this monologue, but in other parts of the play too. He learns from the contemplation over life and death that he would rather live and revenge his father 's death than die. Partly because the unknown after death scares him and the other part is because he wants revenge. The speech briefly explains Hamlet’s confusion and overthinking. For example, him continuously going back and forth with himself on whether to continue suffering through life, sleep, or die, and he questions whether to follow the ghost of his father, and whether to seek revenge or not. Even though he has an internal battle, the readers can simply conclude that Hamlet is going to have to make a decision in the end which leads to the death of Claudius. If the reader put his or herself in poor Hamlet’s situation, they can gain knowledge that it is not easy to deal with the death of a loved one’s life alone. Hamlet wonders whether to live or die, to suffer or take arm. Given to the pain he feels at his father's murder, and his mother's hasty remarriage to his uncle, to the murderer. he wonders if it is nobler to bear his grief, or to take action. His dad’s ghost has told him what really happened at the night his father died and told him to revenge. Now Hamlet has another choice to make. To trust the ghost or not. When Hamlet made the choice to listen and believe the apparition of his dead father, he willingly buys into the spirit's claim that he has been murdered by Claudius. This decision has huge repercussions for the rest of the play.

Hamlet is unlike the other two characters in the way that he uses reason and logic before he acts and decides to kill his uncle, Claudius, because he is aware of the consequences. For example, when Hamlet is trying to determine how he can prove Claudius the murderer, after conversing with the players about the play, following Hamlet’s reasoning that the ghost could be a devil trying to deceive him, in his soliloquy he states, “I’ll observe his looks… If he do blench, / I know my course… I’ll catch the conscience of the King.” (II, ii, 625-634). He reattaches himself to his revenge based on the logic of Claudius’ guilt. If Claudius does not feel guilty and has no reaction to the play, Hamlet will not act because logically Claudius was not to blame. Subsequently, Hamlet discovers that Claudius is guilty and commits himself to taking his life, but when Hamlet approaches Claudius and sees him praying he thinks to himself, he shouldn’t kill him there saying, “That would be scanned:/ A villain kills my father, and for that, / I, his sole son, do this same villain send/ to heaven… this is… not revenge.” (III, iii, 80-84). Prince Hamlet frequently questions the meaning of life and the degrading of morals as he agonizes over his father’s murder, his mother’s incestuous infidelity, and what he should or shouldn’t do about it. At first, he is just depressed; still mourning the loss of his father as his mother marries his uncle. After he learns about the treachery of his uncle and the adultery of his mother, his already negative countenance declines further. He struggles with the task of killing Claudius, feeling burdened about having been asked to find a solution to a situation that was forced upon him.Death is something he struggles with as an abstract idea and as relative to himself. He is able to reconcile with the idea of death and reality eventually.
Hamlet although he believes that suffering must be endured or battled, he also understands that suffering is optional and that suffering is caused from pain and all pain can be relieved. At times Hamlet no longer sees the point of bearing the huge burden of suffering as he does, but rather to end the burden through suicide. These thoughts are however based or can be linked back to Hamlet’s emotion and how his negative emotions overcome his logical thinking. We see however Hamlet’s ability to think logically and understand the reasoning behind suffering and the preciousness of his life. Hamlet is upset about his rights to the throne being taken away when his mother, Gertrude, remarried so soon after his father’s death. In the play, Hamlet has a speech in act III, scene iii, lines 74-96. Hamlet makes his speech while Claudius is praying. Hamlet is speaking out loud to the audience. Even though Claudius is there, he is oblivious to Hamlet. Claudius does not see or hear what Hamlet is saying, he is only caught up in himself and what could happen, since Hamlet knows that he is responsible for the death his father. Claudius is worried about himself and losing the throne that he has stolen from his brother and his new wife. Hamlet’s speech in act III, scene iii, lines 74-96, advances the plot, and develops the theme of the play.
As illustrated through his speeches and soliloquies Hamlet has the mind of a true thinker. Reinacting the death of his father in front of Claudius was in itself a wonderful idea. Although he may have conceived shcemes such as this, his mind was holding him back at the same time. His need to analyze and prove everythin certain drew his time of action farther and farther away. Hamlet continuously doubted himself and whether or not the action that he wanted to take was justifiable. The visit that Hamlet recieves from his dead father makes the reader think that it is Hamlet's time to go and seek revenge. This is notthe case. Hamlet does seem eager to try and take the life of Claudius in the name of his father, but before he can do so he has a notion, what if that was not my father, but an evil apparition sending me on the wrong path? This shows that even with substantial evidence of Claudius' deeds, Hamlet's mind is not content.

Young Hamlet is in deep morning over the loss of his father and now he has to handle the remarriage of his mother to his own uncle, the man who in cold blood killed his father. Hamlet, with the death of his father, is acting strangely but his whole outlook changes for the worst when his father's ghost visits him. He finds out the true causes of his death and he is influenced by his father to seek revenge. Hamlet's father tells his son to kill his uncle, Claudius because he is the cause of his death. Hamlet loved his father deeply and would do anything for him. He becomes enraged with anger and hate for Claudius and begins to plot his revenge, Claudius' own death. Throughout the play his father's ghost visits Hamlet. Even after his death he has a great control over his son and his actions. These visits are a constant reminder to Hamlet of the truth. Knowing the truth of his father's death has driven Hamlet to the brink of insanity. The only thing he can think of is revenge. His father's death and prior conflict with his brother has left Hamlet in a position of honoring his father and doing right by him, and the only thing he sees fit to do is rid himself of the man that brought about the anger Hamlet is feeling. In the end Hamlet finally gets the revenge he sought with the death of Claudius.
He would be alive at this point if he would have been quiet. Hamlet in his quest for revenge has become very edgy and when he saw an opportunity to strike at the king he took it. He had no knowledge that Polonius was in the room, but instead believed that it was Claudius who had entered the room in an effort to seduce his mother into lying with him in bed. When Hamlet heard the voice behind the tapestry call for help, he pounced and seized at what he thought was his chance to kill Claudius. He was wrong, however, and shed the innocent blood of a loyal servant. Many people would say that Hamlet does not want to get revenge for the death of his father, but throughout the play, we see Hamlet doing that very thing. He concocts multiple plans in an attempt to make the king confess what he has done, that way Hamlet can punish him for his cruel actions. Hamlet became so consumed with his quest for revenge that he ended up killing innocent people in hopes that it was the king. His goal was not justice, but to see his uncle end up dead for the murder of his father. Hamlet is a smart young man, who throughout the play lusts for revenge. He wants to make his uncle suffer for the crimes of he committed and should not be an example to anyone because he believes that the only way to solve the problem of his father’s murder is to take revenge.
