The legalization of marijuana is a very debatable subject, some people think it is bad and should be illegal, and some people think it is good in some ways if used properly. It should be legal because it has few negative effects, it serves other purposes than getting people stoned, and it is better than other drugs.
Many advocates say “ Marijuana is a common drug used by many people.”(Sandra) A lot of people think marijuana has numerous amounts of negative effects on the body. Marijuana helps the body in many different ways. It relaxes and relives stress from many people. It has been proven that marijuana does not kill brain cells, like most people seem to think it does. Marijuana also helps the creativity of people. It gives people new and creative ideas. The only negative effect it has on the body is that it speeds up your metabolism which makes you hungry and it causes people to eat a lot of food, which could be bad for people on a diet or that are overweight and should not be eating a lot. Many advocates say, “some of the greatest books and movies were wrote by people that were on marijuana while they thought of all their ideas.”(William Dudley) “The U.S. Army released a study about the effects of marijuana. The report concluded that the drug was neither habit forming or dangerous; La Guardia’s report concluded that marijuana was not a gateway drug and that its potential, social, medical, and psychological dangers had been vastly over estimated.”(William J.) So if mariju...
Sources exhibit examples of greed that result in impoverished conditions for all circumstances of life. Greed is evident through the actions of social groups, and at the individual level. Selfishness would not benefit the good in life if it is expected to gain and not be expected to lose. Gluttony is evident in today's social environment just as much as it was years ago, whether it be using someone for self purpose, exploitation, damaging relationships, creating wars and oppression, destroying nature, countless other evils and many live without the necessities that we take for granted.
The Odyssey is a work of art that expresses the thoughts, views, and fears of ancient Greece that are shown through archetypes. Those archetypes are some of the primary tools to learn about ancient Greece. The Odyssey was written by Homer and it shows the ten year journey Odysseus took to get back home to Ithaca from Troy. There are three archetypes that have been found to reoccur throughout the course of the story. These archetypes will be used to explain their importance to the Odyssey and Greece. Three of the most important archetypes in the Odyssey are the hero, monster, and greed archetypes.
From the beginning of time, greed and money has motivated man above all else. It seems
“Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.” -Erich Fromm
Othello is different visually from the other characters of his own play, in that he is a Moor (African) among Italians. In a time frame where Africans were not seen as equals to those of Caucasian descent and when black could be seen as evil, Othello had to work harder than most to gain a positive reputation. As he recounts how he wooed Desdemona, he recalls, “These arms of mine had seven years’ pith…They have used
There have been 20 million arrests since 1965 for the possession of marijuana, also known as cannabis. The amount of crime and arrests for possessions of the illicit drug has increased due to the prohibition. Cannabis was a major cash crop for the industrial production prior to its illegalization. It has been estimated that the United States spends approximately $7.7 billion each year to prohibit the use of marijuana alone. Currently the number of people incarcerated is six to ten times higher than European countries (NORML). Today the United States wastes billions of dollars to fight against the war on drugs, for the imprisonment of hundreds of thousands of people, and etc. It’s also brought a raise of violence and crime relating to the dealing and production of the drug. Marijuana should be legalized because its ban has been futile in preventing illicit production, regulating it would allow new development in medical treatments, and would give a boost to the economy. The illegalization of the drug has a much more negative impact then it does well, in fact it’s pushed drug cartels to produce more of the drug because of the high demand and the millions of dollars they’ll make from profits.
that human nature seeks to dominate. Greed and money are often at the root of such efforts. The
Did you know that marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug, with 19.8 million past-month users according to the 2013 National Survey on Drug Use and Health. That year, marijuana was used by 81.0 percent of current illicit drug users. Now think if every state in America was to legalize marijuana. There would be so many pros and cons that will change the economy. In this paper I will tell u all the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana. Some pros are that it will help cure many illnesses and different forms of pain, it will decrease the crime rate, and will help the economy. But, as a result of legalizing marijuana there will be cons. For example it will affect teens, harm the person smoking marijuana, and harm those around the person
Narcissistic Personality Disorder is a mental disorder that is considered to be an impairment in personality functioning, the presence of pathological traits, lack of empathy for others and a need for admiration. This type of personality disorder has some related disorders such as antisocial behaviors, interpersonal exploitation and envy. According to Luo, Cai, & Song (2014), “Narcissism refers to a kind of abundant self-love, characterized by a series of characteristic including self-desire for admiration, fantasies of superiority, hypersensitivity to criticism, exploitation of people, and lack of empathy for others” (p. 1). There have been ongoing discussions on how this type of behavior is processed in the brain. It is not clearly known
There is a small strait between Scylla and Charybdis. “Scylla to port and on our starboard bean Charybdis…” Odysseus must pick which monster to sail nearest to- the monster that will be less dangerous. In other words, Odysseus must pick the lesser of two evils. Put into a more modern context, the idiom “stuck between a rock and a hard place” perfectly describes Odysseus’ dilemma. In another situation, Odysseus must decide to plunder the Cyclops Polyphemus’ home, or wait to meet him. In lines 165-171, the crew wants to plunder, and Odysseus must weigh the benefits or ramifications. Either choice could have dangerous consequences. The term, “a crossroads”, comes from an actual cross of roads. It is now used as an analogy of a crucial decision that could take the traveler in opposite directions. The crew’s final crossroads is when they consider eating the cattle of the sun god. In lines 865-875, they contemplate starving or eating the cattle and dying quickly. The crew calls famine the “most pitiful”. It can be concluded that the Greeks did not find starvation an honorable way to die, leading the crewmembers to pick a fatal road to traverse. However, it was just the Greeks who had
The film Crash, describes the lives of people of different ethnicities who encounter one another along with struggling to handle racism. It is rare that we see a movie combining several different stories presented in a way that addresses some of the most piercing problems in society today. The movie is set in the Los Angeles area, Crash tells the intertwining stories of different races, ethnic groups, social economic statuses, the people behind the law, and people running from it. Just as in the movie we “crash” into each other in life, which is an expected thing. The incidents in the movie stem from some form of prejudice. At the opening of the film, there is a traffic accident involving several people of different backgrounds. The movie
Firstly, what is exactly narcissism? The word ‘narcissism’ was derived from an ancient Greek myth of Narcissus. Narcissus was depicted as a handsome young man who adored his looks very much. Many young maidens fell in love with him but he criticizes them for being too ugly for him. One day, he fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. However, he accidentally drowned himself as he tried to touch his reflection. Hence, the word ‘narcissism’ is usually depicted as a personality that reflects excessive of self-love on oneself. Individuals who are narcissistic are usually described as somebody who is selfish, snobbish or proud. This is because narcissistic individual processes information obtained differently than others. They believe that they deserve more than others since they think they are more superior in every aspect. Due to their sense of grandiosity, they will do anything in order t...
Greed, being a key human condition, has shaped society from the very start. In fact, some scholars believe that greed was the first major milestone of human success, when the first human wondered why he/she had to scrounge around for necessities; it is a part of being human to be greedy. Wanting a new car, to be loved by another, or to desire the feeling of well doing when feeding the needy, these are all factions of greed...
Have you ever had the pleasure of working with an individual who was completely full of themselves? This person loved to be the center of attention and the topic of every subject, had extravagant dreams and considered themselves to be a person of many talents. This same person believed that they were a better leader than you would ever be and had no problem telling you that. He or she thought that the best way to gain the admiration of others and receive confirmation of their authority was by “talking down” to those who threaten them. The qualities that I mentioned are all common traits of a narcissist. Narcissist tend to think that they are better leaders than what they actually are according to their peers and coworkers. Proverbs 29:2 says "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn" (King James Bible Online, 2015).
