Lyndon Johnson
Lyndon Johnson led the country for five years (1963-1968) after
President John Fitzgerald Kennedy died of gunshot wounds on November 22, 1963.
He formulated many policies and carried out many others that Kennedy could not
finish. He faced many foreign problems as well, including the Vietnam War and
the Cold War. How he dealt with foreign problems put him near last if not last
in foreign affairs, when compared to other presidents. Johnson always talked to
tourists and met reporters informally. He entertained many distinguished guests
at his ranch in Texas. Also, Lyndon and his wife Claudia (Lady Bird) Johnson
held formal and informal dances at the white house. His presidency left added a
lot in the history books. If it were not for his leadership and ideas, many
parts of society today would not exist.(Peter Lisagor, 148-152)
"We have suffered a loss that cannot be weighed. For me, it is a deep
personal tragedy. I know that the world shares the sorrow that Mrs. Kennedy and
her family bear. I will do my best. That is all I can do. I ask for your help
and God's," quoted Lyndon Johnson after the assassination of friend, colleague,
and leader President John Fitzgerald Kennedy at one-o'clock on November 22,
1963(Peter Lisagor, 151). Johnson took on the large role as president aboard the
presidential Air Force jet at Love Field, Dallas exactly ninety-nine minutes
after Kennedy died. Coincidentally becoming the second vice president with the
last name Johnson to succeed an assassinated president and nearly one hundred
years apart.(Hugh S. Sidey, 1-2 & Hans L. Trefousse, 1-2)
Within a short time after he became president, Johnson announced a
five hundred million-dollar budget cut and urged a strong civil rights bill.
Both of these were previously proposed by Kennedy. Also, he proposed a national
War on Poverty. This included creating new jobs and building up areas where the
economy had faltered. This was approved by Congress without a problem. A new
housing law provided five billion dollars in federal funds to help the needy buy
houses and rent apartments passed in 1968. Congress also passed a tax cut for
both individuals and corporations. (Peter Lisagor, 148-149)
Civil rights was a large part of Johnson's presidency. It did not take
him long to develop civil rights laws. A new civil rights law opened to Negroes

on Vietnam was halted on November 1, 1968. Peace between the U.S. and all of
Vietnam soon followed.(Peter Lisagor, 149-152)
To conclude, President Lyndon Johnson deserved his rank. After all his
great accomplishment in civil rights and his war on poverty he could have been
near the top of the list. Unfortunately everything started to collapse near the
end mainly because of his involvements with Vietnam. His many achievements left
a mark in history. If it were not for him, many civil rights would not exist. He
added on two whole cabinet departments and appointed two of the first Negro
government officials. These accomplishments kept him high on the list. Many
people would consider him last in foreign affairs because the people of the
country did not always agree with his involvements in Vietnam. This most likely
brought his rating down.

Another obstacle he faced was one of his more famous accomplishments, shutting down the National bank of the United States. His argument stated that they had used the money of the bank too gamble. When they won they split the money between themselves and when they lost they charged it too the bank. They told him that if he shuts down the bank that he would destroy ten thousand families, he didn't care. Instead he replied that if he doesn't they will be ruining fifty thousand families and that was much more important to him. Now some say that he had his own personal vendetta against the bank but we don't know for sure if that was true.
He is famous for his renowned systematic study of technique which revolve around the philosophy of nonviolence. Today, he is recognized as on the the most famous leaders of the Civil rights movement. He successfully passed the voting act which helped nearly four million minority voters into the democratic process. This was a major milestone in history, as it was the first time African Americans were running for public office in the South and winning, since the Reconstruction era.
Today, the United States is the fifth largest country in the world, with over 294 Embassies and Consulates around the world our influence is quite significant. Ancient Rome contained about 20% of the world’s population of the time; it is remembered as the greatest empire in history, with ties all over the eastern hemisphere from Britain, to Egypt, to all the way to China. Ancient Rome as we know contributed significantly to modern society and is not without influence on us here in the United States. Rome’s influences included aspects ranging from their public benefits, to their use of glass, to their use of concrete, to their administration system. But, there are three influences of Ancient Rome that still reverberate through time and still have an incredible impact in our society. The first influence that Rome gave us would be their form of government, specifically their Republic Era that lasted nearly five hundred years. Ancient Rome also gifted us with the idea of benefits for those who can’t provide for themselves. Furthermore, from Ancient Rome we got the idea of providing public services that are funded with tax dollars.
The United States’ war with Mexico continues to be a divisive topic as it gave the US large plots of land but has controversial roots. The Mexican American War was a two-year armed conflict between Mexico and the United States of America. Although the United States’ war against Mexico resulted in the gaining of America’s most valuable land, the war itself was unjust because Texas’ reasons for independence were illegitimate, it was used to expand slavery, and the war was declared on false pretence.
War 2. It appears that his leadership helped to make the feeling of the country

Introduction Reagan, Ronald Wilson (1911- ),the 40th president of the United States (1981-1989), enforced the policies that reversed a general direction of movement toward greater government involvement in economic and social regulation. Reagan as the younger of two sons, was born in Tampico, Illinois and spent most of his childhood in Dixon, Illinois. After studying at Eureka College,a small Disciples of Christ college near Peoria, Illinois, he majored in economics, and became the president of the student body, a member of the football team, and captain of the swimming team. He had special drawings toward acting, but after the graduation in 1932 the only job available related to show business was as a local radio sportscaster. In 1936 he became a sportscaster for station WHO in Des Moines, Iowa. A year latter, Reagan went to Hollywood and began an acting career that spanned more than 25 years. He played in more than 50 films, including "Knute Rockne"-All American (1940), "King's Row" (1942), and "Bedtime for Bonzo" (1951). Early political career Reagan's first political activities were associated with his responsibilities as a union leader. As union president, Reagan tried to remove suspected Communists from the movie industry. When the U.S. House Committee. Began an investigation in 1947 on the influence of Communists in the film industry, Reagan took a strong anti-Communist stand testifying before the committee. Reagan emerged on the national political scene in 1964 when he made fervent television speech supports for the Republican presidential candidate, United States Senator Barry Goldwater from Arizona. Although the election was lost, Reagan's speech brought in money and admiration from Republicans around the country. After the speech a group of Republicans in California persuaded Reagan to run for governor of California in 1966. Reagan appealed to traditional Republican voters. He defeated Edmund G. (Pat) Brown, Sr., Democrat, by almost a million votes. The election of 1980 Reagan spent years making political friends at party fund-raising dinners around the country. In the election of 1980 for the president, the candidates were Carter and Reagan. The contrast between the television personalities of two candidates was very important to people. Carter’s nervous manner had never been popular to people, while Reagan’s charm and happy face was a call for return to patriotism, which appealed to the public. Many voters believed that Reagan was forceful leader who could get their lives in shape and who could restore prosperity at home.
It is my honor to speak before the House of Representatives and Senate and officially state that Mexico and the United States have signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This treaty ends the Mexican-American War as Mexico has agreed to cede all regions that rightfully belong to the United States of America. The Mexican-American War started in April of 1846 and ended yesterday in February of 1848. I consider the war against Mexico as a conflict that largely benefited the United States. President James Polk and all of my fellow US Congressman were reasonable and justifiable to dictate that Mexico obstructed and interfered with the freedom and rights of the citizens in our beautiful nation, specifically in Texas. The Mexican general, Santa Anna, sent troops to invade one of the Union’s state, Texas, and the act is clearly an attack against the United States. In this speech, I will address to the critics of the war the facts, reasons and my clarifications to justify that the United State’s action to declare war against Mexico was reasonable.

The United States was split on the war. Northerners thought President James Polk, who was a southerner, was trying to gain land for slaves. Other Americans thought it was wrong to have war with Mexico to get more territory. Although United States citizens were divided the United States army had success on the battlefield, led by Generals Ulysses S. Grant and Robert Lee which in...
Ben Affleck, director, does an excellent job with the movie Argo. Being able to find the fear and suspension in every scene is difficult to do, yet Affleck does so seamlessly. Based off a true historical event that happened in 1979, Affleck choses to pick the Iranian Hostage Crisis. He starts out the movie with some background information, so that viewers are able to have some understanding of what has happened and why this is happening. He then merges into a heartbreaking scene, where a mob of Iranians have bombarded their way into the American Embassy. Screaming and shouting at the top of their lungs, the actions happening outside are horrific. Showing the fear in every American’s eyes in the building pulls at every heart

Martin Luther King is widely known as one of the greatest speakers to ever approach our nation. The impact he made on America was so much more than effective; it was incredible. The speech Martin Luther King gave took place 48 years ago, and even today people remember and quote the words he spoke. Being a man of Christ, he allowed the Lord to use him in furthering the kingdom of God. He is a man that has gone into history, and every child who goes through school is made known of works. Martin Luther King's passion for the civil-rights movement was so strongly effective and evident that it changed our nation.
There are many different ways that modern cultures in the west have been impacted and built upon, but there are two ancient cultures that were the most influential. The Greek and Roman cultures helped shape Western Civilization in many ways. Both were very important factors in the development of Western culture. The Greeks contributed through art, architecture, government, philosophy, education, and science. The Romans contributed through language, engineering, law, and government.
