The Illusions of Reality
The only thing in my life that I can be positive about is change. Everything changes, from the moment we’re born to the moment we die. Reality has many twist and turns, and our perception of reality is what shapes us to become who we are. Our life is spent on deciphering the difference between reality and not reality. This is hard to define because reality is unique to each individual.
Our environment and the people we are around shape our perception of what is real. Reality is our grip of what is true and false, right and wrong, what is real and what is not. So reality can be distorted by our belief in it. We can sincerely believe something is right, but be sincerely wrong.
The foundations of thought and imagination are laid at a very young age. Reality for the deaf and blind is that nothing exists outside of their perception. They do not yet understand object permanence, that even though an object goes out of sight, it still exists. Many children develop this knowledge around the ages of four to eight months old. I was a late bloomer; I did not acquire this until later.
When I was five years old, I was terrified of being left alone. I was afraid to ever be by myself. I had to be around other people or I would have panic attacks. Our dogs somehow had gotten out of our backyard. My mom, my sister and I got in the car and drove around the neighborhood looking for the dogs. My mother drove by our house to check if they had got back yet. My mom told me to see if the front door was unlocked. As I was walking across the front lawn, she drove away. When I was walking towards the house I didn’t hear my mom tell me that she was going around the block and that she’d be right back. To say the least, I panicked. I remember running down the dusty dirt road after her brown jeep thinking that my mom left me and would never see her again. Feelings of fear and abandonment filled my body, and I ran down to the highway screaming with tears streaming down my face. When I finally got to the highway I sat down and started to sob. A lady in a blue car pulled over and asked me what was wrong. She was concerned so she had me get in the car and drove me to my house. We sat there in the car together until my mom came back home. My mom thanked the lady for being so kind, grabbed my arm and pulled m...

...were destitute, living in barely livable shacks. It showed me how rich I was. They were starving. Not only physically, but spiritually as well. These people had never been showed the truth that the Bible held, or the hope it could bring to their lives. I had never been exposed to this type of living in my life. It made me think about everything differently. I became much more thankful and giving. I was a spoiled brat when I went, but returned changed and unselfish. I changed for myself. At that stage in my life I realized how much I have, and how much I took for granted. I did not like who I was or where I was going, so I changed. I was changed as much as Mexicalli was changed.
There are many points in my life that, when I look back on them, I will have noticed a change that was made. Whether it is when I accepted the Jesus into my life, or experienced a drug for the first time. We shall all be that way. What I’m experiencing right now is real and tangible to me, but maybe I will look back on this time of my life someday and realize that this reality was just a step to another, and that reality another step, then another. What we are experiencing now will eventually be a memory.
On August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped the world’s first atomic bomb over Hiroshima. Three days later, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. On August 15th, the Japan announced unconditional surrender in World War II. To this day historians still discuss why the U.S. decided to use the atomic bombs. Orthodox historians argue that the decision to drop the bombs was a military one designed purely to defeat the Japanese. Revisionist historians argue that the bombs were not needed to defeat Japan; the bombs were meant to shape the peace by intimidating the Soviets. After analyzing the documents in The Manhattan Project it has become clear that the U.S. used the bombs during WWII not only to defeat the Japanese, but also to intimidate the Soviet Union
Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that is government funded and offers free health care, sex education, and family planning to millions of women all over the country. (“Who We Are”) The organization was founded by Margaret Sanger in the 1960’s. Her mission was to provide free health care to women all across the nation despite their race, ethnic background, income, etc. She also vowed to educate and care for women’s sexual health while maintaining their privacy. As of late, Planned Parenthood has been a target of controversy, with a possibility of being defunded. Why or why not should the government continue to fund this organization?
Liberalists applaud Planned Parenthood’s contributions to public health (collecting dead fetus’s tissues for medical use) and its dedication to fighting for woman’s right to terminate pregnancy. Alternately, conservative side condemns Planned Parenthood 's endeavor as dangerous because they believe PP’s behavior actually encourages more people to abort and brings society with instability and turbulence. Recently, as Republicans promote their marketing about intimidating sides of Planned Parenthood, more people tend to feel disgusted about what Planned Parenthood is
With multiple chances from the United States to surrender in the war and rejecting each one, the Japanese set themselves up for disaster. On August 6, 1945 the course of history was changed. Two atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima, and three days later, August 9, 1945, on Nagasaki that ended World War II. Japan had already been a defeated nation from conventional bombs and World War II. Many innocent lives were lost, psychological scars were left on the lives of the bomb survivors, and thus many lives were changed forever. The atomic bombings caused many people to have genetic effects due to the radiation from the bombs. Revisionists have said the US used the bombs to blackmail the Soviet Union. The deployment of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was morally justified because it ended the war quickly, ultimately saved many lives, and was a beginning for many.
We all know that Planned Parenthood is a charitable association that researches into and gives guidance on contraception, family arranging, and regenerative issues. However, society and especially the American people need to realize what Planned Parenthood does to the unborn children. Some think funding Planned Parenthood is a good idea without looking at the affects that is will cause and then there are others that see likewise and want to defund Planned Parenthood. When arguing the point on defunding Planned Parenthood the liberals and conservatives has two different perspective and argumentative points which both goes a long way trying to get society to understand both their views. However, both sides feel that their perspective of defunding
President- elect, Donald Trump, and Vice President- elect, Mike Pence, have stated their views on Planned Parenthood and how it should be defunded; especially Vice President elect, Mike Pence, who has a history of trying to defund Planned Parenthood. In 2007, Mike Pence introduced a bill to defund Planned Parenthood, and kept pushing for it until it passed in 2011. "If Planned Parenthood wants to be involved in providing counseling services and HIV testing, they ought not be in the business of providing abortions," Pence told Sarah Kliff in 2011. "As long as they aspire to do that, I’ll be after them." So after this troubling statements and bills, I decided to set the record straight. Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit reproductive health care organization. It’s services provide STD testing, pregnancy prevention, contraception, counseling, cancer and HIV tests, and abortions. Planned Parenthood is a well rounded health care organization for men and women. They use their resources to help you not the other way around. Planned Parenthood is a program designed to help all human beings. Planned Parenthood shouldn’t be defunded; instead it should be keep being available to all human beings visiting or living in the
In the case of Roe vs. Wade the outcome by the Supreme Court was that women had the right to choose an abortion, therefore making it legal. As provided earlier the current numbers from Planned Parenthood’s annual report show that abortion is the service they provide the most, in fact it only makes up 3% of the services they provide (Planned). Planned Parenthood receives no funding towards abortion, so there should be no discussion of even of thinking of cutting the services they provide because critics think that all they do are abortions. The purpose of Planned Parenthood is to help and educate, and they have done so much to prove that. Planned Parenthood provides there services are set at a certain price so that everyone has a chance to obtain those fundamental healthcare services and denying access to that would cause a lot of harm to the people. Defunding Planned Parenthood would do more harm then good, an example would be women who go to Planned Parenthood seek birth control at an affordable price, it they don’t have that access like have been that would probably lead to more unwanted pregnancies and even more abortions. The organization’s services actually reduce the number of abortions (Finn). As mentioned earlier Planned Parenthood prevented 584,000 unintended pregnancies in 2010, which proves that the organization main objective is not abortion as the critics of the organization say. Everyone is entitled to the services Planned Parenthood
Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization that receives federal as well as state government funding. As per Lori Robertson’s article on factcheck.org, she states that “Planned parenthood’s 2008-2009 annual report states that it received $363.2 million in” Government grants”(Lori Robertson) As per government representative Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah and a member of the Republican Party he believes that the grants that the federal government have been providing PPFA have been mainly used on abortion service and not on health services. While being “In a senate floor speech on Aug.3, Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, who cosponsored a failed bill to fund Planned Parenthood, also said that “abortion account for 94 percent of Planned parenthood’s pregnancy services”” (D’Angelo Gore). The organization also have antiabortion groups who also wants the funding to be cut. One of the allegation that Monica Miller a rally organizer made against PPFA is that “ The kind of sexual ethic that Planned Parenthood promotes is sex for recreation, sec for mere pleasure”(Monica Miller). Meanwhile, we also have the religious groups that beli...
There is a common misconception that Planned Parenthood is a center for abortions, and that is it. The truth is, only three percent of Planned Parenthood’s services relate to abortions. Planned Parenthood receives $500 million in federal funding and it is illegal to spend any of that money on abortion services. In CNN ’s article, "Planned Parenthood, by the Numbers”, there are clear statistics about how Planned Parenthood manages the money they receive and how a majority of their work focuses on
Perception shapes reality in the sense that what you experience in life changes how you view the world. Hunters for example don’t believe the killing they do is wrong. Their past experiences form how they view hunting. In the case of Rainsford in “The Most Dangerous Game” he starts out strictly believing he is the leader, a sort of top dog, but soon he is put in his place. He proudly states “‘The world is made up of two classes--the hunters and the huntees. Luckily, you and I are the hunters.[‘]”(Connel 1). This is foreshadowing the events that take place on Ship Trap Island. Rainsford is hounded by General Zaroff who is “singularly handsome” (Connel 4) and sophisticated. Zaroff has fun experiences hunting humans, therefore he doesn't perceive it as a crime or immoral. Rainsford on the other hand finds it disgusting because he hadn’t done it himself. In the article about Cecil the
My opinion? I agree completely with my Aunt and Uncle. Reality is what we perceive it to be and interpret it as . Those perceptions and interpretations are mainly based on our history and experiences, However that does not mean that we cannot change our perceptions and interpretations- it is not easy but it can be done, if you want to.
Have you ever wondered why some people act like an entirely different person? Well, I have experienced a change like this, and it has made a huge difference in my life. I was saved in April of 2012, and since then other people and I have seen differences in my personality, moods, and how I reacted in certain circumstances. When I was saved, I noticed a change right away, like something has turned on inside me that has never turned on before. This experience has changed my life forever, and things will never be the way they were ever again.
The time I was lost at Walmart, I was six years old I was mad about something and that’s when I started wandering off somewhere until finally I turned around my mom was gone I looked all around couldn’t find her anywhere the feeling of me being by myself without know one being here with me to protect me or be here with me, I felt like I lost her forever and that I can’t find her anywhere because Walmart was like a huge store so it was gonna be tough to find her, after a while I started crying and calling her name “mom!”, at that moment one of the employees at the store helped me find my mom by operating on this entercom and called her name luckily I knew her name because if I didn’t how else will I suppose to find her, next they called her
“The world is as you believe it to be.” This is a belief held by many but lived by few. In life, people can only have so much control. Every action taken has an equal and opposite reaction. What most don’t realize, however, is that a person’s thoughts and beliefs can change how an event goes down, or even bend reality. In day to day life, I try to live by this philosophy. I look at things from different angles in order to understand the personal reality another has crafted for themselves. I pay attention to my attitude toward things, as being positive or negative can legitimately change things. The final thing I attempt to change is confidence in myself and in others. My philosophy is knowing that beliefs can change your
It was December 4, 2014 and it was snowing outside. I was sitting at the kitchen table doing homework. All my family was downstairs, so I was all alone. My English teacher told us to write a paper about how I am different from my classmates. I was thinking about what in my life makes me different and slowly my whole life was playing like a movie in my head. The first memory that popped into my head was my fourth birthday party. It was supposed to be the best birthday ever. My dad was going to come. It was February 24, 2002 at my birthday party. There were so many people there, but I was so focused on my dad coming, no one else seemed to matter. My cake was pink and yellow with a bicycle on it. I had a red and blue inflatable that kids were
