Introduction and Climate
The state of Hawaii is composed of 132 islands, reefs and shoals that extend for over 1500 miles across the central North Pacific Ocean from the "Big Island" of Hawaii to midway and Kure Atolls. The eight main islands of Hawaiian Archipelago include Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Nihau and Kahoolawe (listed in order of size) which extend for only 350 miles at the south-eastern end of the volcanic mountain chain. Hawaii includes some of the earth’s largest mountains, rising from oceanic depths of greater than 18,000 feet to a height above sea level of nearly 14,000 feet. Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island are volcanic mountains with a total relief of 32,000 feet. The entire Island of Hawaii, with its five large volcanoes of Kahala, Mauna Kea, Hualalai, Mauna Loa, and kilauea, and Loihi, is less than 450,000 years old. Kauai and Niihau, at five million years, are the oldest of the main Islands (Kauai on line).
Kauai, "The Garden Isle," is 552.3 square miles and the population is 50,947. It is geologically the most mature of the main Hawaiian Islands with extensive development of broad, lush erosional valleys and coastal features such as coral/algae reefs and sandy beaches. Waimea Canyon, at over 2500 feet deep, is Hawaii’s largest erosional valley. Nearly 50% of Kauai’s 111 miles of coastline are lined with beautiful beaches, derived mainly from erosion on reef producing coral and algae. Kauai is the fourth largest of the seven major islands in the chain and was built by a massive volcano, of which Mount Waialeale, at 5,148 feet, is the eastern rim.
Kauai is located in Polynesia and in the center of the Pacific Ocean. It’s 22N of the equator and 158W and is located just below the Tropic of Cancer. Being one of the most remote spots and earth, 2500 miles west of California, the biology on the Island is very amazing. Kauai has a wide variety of plant, marine, and animal life. Many species are rare and endangered including Hawaii’s only freshwater fish, the oopo (Atlas).
Kauai has an ideal climate with average temperatures near the coast of 71 in February and March and 79 in August and September. Cooler temperatures in the mountain areas such as Kokee offer a pleasant contrast. The North Shore also averages about 5 to 7 degrees cooler that the other inhabited par...

...e Forest. They break down the forest debree and make it into fertilizer, where a variety of different plants, and animals can flourish. Decomposers include animals such as ants, or other insects (Korine lecture).
Kalalua Valley as shown in the picture describes the biome of the tropical rainforest by the lush vegetation that is outlining the Island of Kauai, and that is sitting on the cooled lava that once flowed from a volcano. The beautiful "Garden Island" of Kauai displays mountain top bogs and rain forests, deep canyons, lush valleys, coral/algae reefs, and sandy beaches. Such features are the result of over five million years of interaction with the Earth’s atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere.
Kauai is one of the most amazing places in this world as well as the Hawaiian Islands. We can see through this paper that Kauai, Hawaii has so much to offer in terms of vegetation species, and beautiful sights. Realizing how amazing these chain of Islands are is only the first step in becoming enthralled into the depths of each island’s history. The geography the climate, geomorphology, and Biogeography are a few of many that make these places and awesome sight to see.
Haida Gwaii is composed of many small islands consisting of a multitude of inlets, rivers, and beaches (Dalzell 13, and Horwood and Parkin 13). These, more than 150, islands create an isolated archipelago totalling in approximately 9940 km2. Freshwater systems, inlets, waterways, rivers, and lakes are scattered throughout the islands (www.gohaidagwaii.ca). Areas, such as the Skidegate Inlet, between the lowland Graham Island and the narrow, steep-sloped Moresby Island, provide broad view of the landscape (Horwood and Parkin 52). The 100 km wide (www.gohaidagwaii.ca), Hecate Strait, dividing Haida Gwaii with the mainland, is shallow and temper-mental with shallow areas, huge waves, rock overfalls, and tide rips (Dalzell 14).
Mauna Loa is Earth’s largest volcano and most massive mountain as it takes up nearly half of the flourishing landscape of the island of Hawai’i. This island is actually made up of five volcanoes, Kohala, Mauna Kea, Hualalai, Mauna Loa, and Kilauea, all in such close proximity that they fused together to form one whole island. Mauna Loa is located in the south central area of Hawai’i, in the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park and its coordinates are 19°5' N, 155°6' W. It is 13,680 ft above sea level, but if one measures from its true base on the ocean floor, it is estimated to be 30,080 feet tall. Its name is quite fitting as it means “Tall Mountain”.

While walking down the beach, the white, warm sand mushes between your toes. The sun’s radiant rays beam off your glowing skin. The sound of waves crashing blocks out the external world. There is no other place like the gorgeous tropical islands of Hawaii. The wide range of flowers, cuisine, and wildlife makes it one of the most diverse places on Earth; however, the unappealing aspects Hawaii makes it one of the most dangerous in the world.
The manifest function, or intended consequence, of dating in general and online dating, is to find a partner. There are also latent functions, or unintended consequences, that can result from online dating such as forming friendships, involvement in new social groups, or determining a ‘type’ of person you are interested in. There could also be potential latent dysfunctions in online dating, meaning the unintended consequences that actually have a negative impact on society. This could be the fact that people online can be very deceitful about who they really are and has resulted in another platform for crime and criminal activity to take root in society. There are sexual predators and pedophiles that use these sites to lure their unknowing
The Mauna Loa volcano is located in Hawaii and means "Long Mountain" in Hawaiian. It is a giant, basaltic shield volcano. It is one of the largest volcanoes and mountains in the world and has been called the "monarch of mountains". It has an estimated volume of 9,600 cubic miles and takes up half the land of Hawaii. It extends about 120 km starting from the southern tip of the island to the northern region. It is 97 km (60 miles) long, 48 km (30 miles) wide, and is 8,742 km (28,680 miles) high from the base on the sea floor to the top. The slopes are steeper than 12 degrees and about 4 degrees at the top of the volcano. Mauna Loa formed about half a million years ago and in the middle stages of forming into a shield volcano where lava flows to form a sloped and broad flat domed volcanic cone. Along with Mauna Kea, the Mauna Loa volcano is responsible for the creation of the Hawaiian Islands. Mauna Loa has erupted thirty-three times since 1843 and is known as one of the most active volcanoes in the world today. The last eruption was 1984 and lava flowed within 4 miles of the city of Hilo. This shows that it is dangerous to live anywhere near Mauna Loa and that it poses as a threat to anyone living near it because it has a very high possibility of erupting within a very short span of time. Below is a picture of Mauna Loa taken from a bird's eye view.
Americans were not the first nation to discover the group of islands now called Hawaii. Seafaring Polynesians, people of Polynesia, landed in Hawaii. Some Polynesians sailed to New Zealand and some went as far as the well known island called Easter Island. However, the first American to set foot on Hawaii is Captain James Cook. He arrived in Hawaii on January 18, 1778. He brought many goods to trade with the Hawaiian people and the people treated him well. James named Hawaii “Sandwich Islands” in the name of Earl of Sandwich; who was the first lord of the British Admiralty. Hawaii is the only state in the United States of America that is not connected to any other American state. Hawaii is last state that joined the United States, making it the fiftieth state on Aug. 21, 1959. Hawaii consists of a chain of 132 islands, with the main islands being Hawaii (the Big Island), Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Nihau, and Kahoolawe. Hawaii’s population is over 1.392 million people. However, Hawaii’s economy and agriculture are very unique, thus making Hawaii a very diverse state.
The Islands of Hawaii are located in the Pacific Ocean with eight main islands. Its climate is mild and summer highs are usually in the upper 80s and winters are in the low 80s. There are also wet and dry seasons on the islands. Due to the rain, The islands has become Lush and green. The Ancient Hawaiians had obtained sustainability through their water conservation and water protection rules. They also protect their environment with water protection rules, fish conservation, and use sustainable farming practices.
Have you ever been eaten alive by the fury of the Pacific Ocean? Well, it happened to me and many other exciting things happened when I visited Hawaii for the first time. About eight years ago, during my spring break, my family and I went to the island of Kauai and we were there for about eight days. I am telling you, the first time you visit a tropical paradise; your scenes will change drastically. The food, the people (locals and tourists), the culture, and lest not forget that unforgiving Pacific Ocean.
“Hawaii’s Big Island” got that name to keep down confusion from the actual state name. The Big Island is bigger than all of the other Hawaiian islands put together. Hawaii’s Big Island is filled with Hawaiian temples from ancient days.
This paper will provide evidence and use of online dating, and show the effects on psychological, safety and social aspects.
Online dating offers chances to people who feel more comfortable behind a screen rather than getting so nervous in front of a person that they are unable to speak. It allows them to interact with someone whom they would be uneasy to speak with in real life. Moreover, in traditional dating first impressions truly matter while online, people have chosen the best for their dating profiles. “People were ready to admit that going on actual "dates" was full of pressure and not very enjoyable. Traditional dating, they pointed out, encouraged an overly formal, inauthentic vibe that ultimately hindered instead of helped their efforts to make romantic connections” (Massa). Many do feel shy to ask the person they are interested in on an official date as they are not actually sure what the other person feels and needs more than the opinion of friends to take a step while asking someone online relieves that stress as the possibility of seeing that person in real life is low along with it messing with the asker’s personal life if it is a
Kilauea is a shield volcano located on the southern shore of the largest Hawaiian island and is between 300,000 and 600,000 years old. The shield is built up of pahoehoe lava with a smooth surface that looks like coiled ropes when it cools. It is part of the Hawaiian Ridge-Emperor Seamount chain, a mostly underwater chain with more than 80 volcanoes. This chain is caused by the movement of the Pacific tectonic plate over the Hawaiian hot spot and extends more than 6000 km from the big island of Hawaii. Kilauea erupts from its summit caldera, from its East Rift Zone and the Sou...
