The engineering of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is entirely new, yet genetics, as
a field of science, has fascinated mankind for over 2,000 years. Man has always
tried to bend nature around his will through selective breeding and other forms
of practical genetics. Today, scientists have a greater understanding of
genetics and its role in living organisms. Unfortunately, some people are
trying to stop further studies in genetics, but the research being conducted
today will serve to better mankind tomorrow. Among many benefits of genetic
engineering are the several cures being developed for presently incurable
diseases. Genetics has also opened the door way to biological solutions for
world problems, as well as aid for body malfunctions. Genetic engineering is a
fundamental tool for leading the world of medicine into the future; therefore,
it is crucial to continue research in this field.

Today's research in genetic engineering is bringing about new methods for curing
and treating major medical illnesses. The Human Genome Project has allowed
geneticists to map the genes of human beings. This project is far from complete,
as the DNA sequence of humans is extremely long, yet it will eventually show
geneticists which genes are responsible for certain inherited diseases.
Identified genes could be repaired, resulting in the irradiation of inherited
diseases, such as cancer. Just last year, the locations of genes for several
diseases were confirmed and may soon be correctable. Secondly, research in
genetics has brought about a new medical field, genetic counseling. Couples
planning to have children can visit a genetic counselor and identify what
medical difficulties their child may have. With continued research in genetics,
couples will have the opportunity to become aware of a greater number of
medical conditions that may affect their child and can make the proper
adjustments needed in advance. Lastly, and perhaps the most important
advancement in the curing and treating of illnesses, geneticists are developing
a new method for removing viruses from human bodies—DNA scissors. This new
method works in a similar way that antibiotics does. When antibodies enter our
internal system they attack a specific type of enemy cell or virus and destroy
it. Likewise, DNA scissors enter the body and attack a specific type of enemy
virus or cell. ...

...osing their lives as a result. In the
future, geneticists would be able to clone pieces of organs and, then, make
organs for surgeries involving transplants. Geneticists may even be able to
clone cells from damaged organs and then engineer exact duplicates. Genetics
will definitely have a large impact on correcting of malfunctions in the human
body.

Without doubt, genetic engineering has already helped make human life easier and
will continue to do so in the future, provided that research on genetic
engineering continues. All advancements in science have led to positive and
negative results, yet, the rewards of genetics greatly outweigh the
disadvantages. Mankind is entering a new era in medicine—genetic engineering—one
that has received criticism. As the field of genetics inevitably becomes
integrated with medical practice, people may continue to protest against what
they believe genetic engineering will unleash on our society. Rather than
allowing fear and ignorance to derail one of the most humane efforts underway,
scientists and the society must find bridges of communication and understanding,
through education, to promote the benefits of genetic engineering.

Benefits of Genetic Engineering Essay - Genetic Engineering is an idea that we can ponder on quiet days. The creation of altered DNA is an enticing aspect that can greatly influence the average human life. The research of genetic engineering is an ongoing exploration that may never end. I am a supporter of a genetic engineering. There are three basic beneficial basis of genetic engineering. Those are genetically altered crops, the creation of medicines, and the creation of organs so that many lives could be saved. Genetically altered crops are very beneficial to third world countries....   [tags: Genetic Engineering, DNA, ]

The Benefits of Genetic Engineering Essay - ... However the big picture isn’t seen by many, and by allowing genetic engineering we will be able to save so many people’s lives that we never thought could be possible. Even though it is argued that we will not know exactly what will happen in the future of the genetically engineered person or how the new genes will react in their body, we do know that the risk is worth taking. People who do not give credit to genetic engineering think that “human genetic engineering might lead to eugenics — the deliberate attempt to improve the human race through artificial genetic selection or selective breeding” (Claper, R 2013)....   [tags: disease, stem cells, research] 904 words

Essay on The Benefits of Genetic Engineering - What exactly is genetic engineering. A simple definition of genetic engineering is “the ability to isolate DNA pieces that contain selected genes of other species”(Muench 238). Genetic engineering has been the upcoming field of biology since the early nineteen seventies. The prosperous field has benefits for both the medical and also the agricultural field. The diminishing of diseases, especially congenital disorders, reduction of pollution, eradication of world hunger, and increased longevity are just some of the possibilities which scientists foresee....   [tags: Genetic Engineering Essays] 1146 words

Essay on The Benefits of Genetic Engineering - Many people are envied or deprecated because of certain traits they are born with. Those that are envied are a select few, which in turn is why they are envied. When one child in a nursery has a toy, he is coveted by all the other children in the nursery. He will be idolized, and nearly every child will want to be his friend. However, there will also those that want the toy for themselves. The children that are jealous will do whatever they can to get the toy. The jealous children often resort to violence, and this is true in all aspects of life....   [tags: Genetic Engineering Essays] 975 words

The Benefits of Human Genetic Engineering Essay examples - Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis is a revolutionary procedure that utilizes in vitro fertilization to implant a healthy egg cell into the mother’s uterus after it is screened for mutations or other abnormalities. That way, only healthy eggs can develop to term and become beautiful, bouncing boys or girls. Designer babies have a bright future in the face of science because they are genetically engineered to be: disease free; viable donors for a sibling or parent; and with optional elimination of any severe cosmetic disorders that might develop,—without risk to human diversity in the future....   [tags: Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis, PGD]
