The constitution of the United States of America gives me the right to freedom because I am a United States citizen. I consider "freedom" to be my right to express myself in any way I choose. Freedom is defined as "having liberty of action or thought, independent". "Self-governed or not controlled by an outside party" is another definition of freedom. Freedom has a different meaning to each individual thus making it hard to find a clear concise definition.

The Definition of Freedom Essay - What is freedom. Freedom can be defined in multiple forms. The dictionary would define freedom as being free from confinement. However, it is more than that. Freedom is defined as not only free from confinement, but also as being free from oppression and the life that you would normally live beforehand. Two examples of freedom are defined in both Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, and On the Rainy River from the compilation of short stories called The Things They Carried from Tim O’Brien. Metamorphosis is about a story of Gregor Samsa....   [tags: Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka, Tim OBrien]

Definition Essay - Defining Freedom - Definition Essay – Defining Freedom Is it possible to define freedom. To define freedom is more than a difficult task, but perhaps easier than one might imagine if not overanalyzed. Given ample time to consider the task, however, a simple, sufficient definition can present itself: freedom is the ability to choose, for any creature living life in any place in any time. There is no greater truth to the statement, and no underlying meanings; freedom is simply the ability to choose. So one might ask, "If this ability to choose applies to all creatures in all places in all times, why can freedom only be defined in the context of the specific creature whose definition of freedom is concerne...   [tags: Expository Definition Essays] 714 words

Definition and Historical Application of Freedom Essay example - “Freedom is anything but unproblematic.” This words reign true when we look at the debates over the definition of freedom throughout all of history and even today. With debates over the NSA, the TSA, the Patriot Act, etc., Americans, and people of other nations who face similar debates over civil liberties, are constantly faced with the issue of figuring out what do we mean by freedom and how absolute should our freedom be. We discuss and debate over the extent to which we have our freedom and yet well all believe that freedom is a core value we all should have even though we don’t agree upon what it is and the extent to which we should have it....   [tags: Institution of Slavery, Free Labor]

Essay about The Power of Self Definition in Feminism of the African Diaspora - ... Despite the fact that U.S. Black women particularly have expended considerable energy on defining Black womanhood, definitional tensions still persist, accompanied by obstacles that come with changing political climates (Collins, 2009). Despite these difficulties, finding some sort of common ground for Black feminist thought is crucial. As U.S. Black feminist Pearl Cleage (1993) states, “we have to see clearly that we are an unique group, set undeniably apart because of race and sex with a unique set of challenges.” Kolawole argues that when African women are given the opportunity to define themselves, then the dogmatic imposition of “isms” will stop and movement towards the empowerment...   [tags: fighting for freedom, justice and equality]

Essay on The Definition of Independence -       Some people say that the definition of independence is a complex word and idea to try to define. In al truth independence is a perplexing word to try to define. This is because everybody has their own speculations of what independence is. Very infrequently are their two people that have the same perception of what the definition of independence is. What I perceive the definition of independence is the absolute freedom to do what you want, and to not be held back by any rules or laws of government or man, but by the rules and laws of nature and your own self concise....   [tags: Definition Essays] 766 words

What is the Definition of Terrorism? Essay - The concept of terrorism is exceedingly difficult to define. Author Gerald Seymour first said in his book Harry’s Game that, “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter”. Each individual may view terrorism in a different light. Because of this, there is currently no universal definition of terrorism. However in recent years, it has become increasingly more important to form a definition of terrorism, especially while working in the media. Definition Essay - The Meaning of Private - Definition Essay - The Meaning of Private Freedom and confinement, contradictory as they seem, are both integrated into the description of what it means to be private.  The meaning of private is even further dual in nature when interpreted personally or in community contexts.  On a smaller scale, individual people classify private as an expected amenity, intended to be a confined to oneself.  On the other hand, communities perceive private as the quality of being independent or free from any public organization or institution.  In reference to dictionary definition, there is a dual understanding and common usage of the word private, each derived from the context in which it is used, either...   [tags: Definition Essays]
