Introduction Primus Securities is an online trading company. The purpose of this paper is to review the decisions that must be made to launch and maintain an online trading company. Hardware is the first element addressed; servers, system memory, and hosting decisions will be reviewed. The second portion is software and includes items such as design, security and data storage. To make the web site available to customers, connectivity issues and options will be examined. A comparison to sites such as Ameritrade, Charles Schwab and E-Trade is also included. A lot of customer expectations will have been established by those websites and Primus will have to include many of the same offerings and then add something extra to win customers. Hardware Platform The first consideration in choosing the hardware for the online trading project at Primus is the server type and platform that will be used. There are three basic platforms that should be considered. “In the past, large websites have always run on large UNIX-based systems from companies such as Sun, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM. However, with the increased stability and reliability of Microsoft Windows servers and the advent of the Linux operating system, more and more sites are turning to Intel-based servers” (Rayport-Jaworski, 2003, pp. 361-362). The Intel-based servers are the best option for Primus, allowing it the flexibility to choose between the Windows Server operating system and the Linux operating system. The software options will be more extensive with this type of server and the cost of purchasing and maintaining them is less (Rayport-Jaworski, 2003, p. 362). The company will likely need three separate servers – a database server, an application server, and a web server. Considering the amount of software needed, this level of flexibility will surely provide an advantage. System Power For purposes of this analysis, system power refers to system memory, CPU speed, storage capacity, and disk access speed. The requirements are somewhat different depending on which server is being considered. Primus should expect that the number of transactions passing through its online trading website has the potential to be massive. Therefore, the database server’s specifications are scrutinized the closest. This machine will need to have a huge amount of storage capacity and will need to utilize the latest technolo... ... middle of paper ... ...us. Primus has the opportunity to see what the competition is offering, how the critics have rated the sites, how the market has reacted, etc. Learning from others’ mistakes and innovations is one of the smartest moves that Primus can make, and the research and analysis cost is minimal. Ultimately, the analysis from this paper is an excellent blueprint for building and maintaining an online trading website which appeals to customers and leads to growth and profitability for Primus. With several thousand commercial Web sites to consider, there are a great variety of e-commerce business models.
The growth of online business has grown enormously over the years. Cliptomania is a family operated and owned small e-business that primarily sells clip on earrings (Brown, DeHayes, Hoffer, Martin, & Perkins, 2012, p. 308). Cliptomania early developments were very modest, and as such the company experienced copious strategic dilemmas. An initial strategic dilemma that the company encountered when establishing and building their new e-business undertaking was to create a website for the business operations and essentially to have it fully operable. The owners, Jim and Candy elected to hire a vendor to host the website and additionally utilize the IT systems resources of the vendor to sustain their business. At the very beginning they exploited the offerings of the Yahoo Store. However, continuing down this avenue of using the services of the Yahoo Store inevitably became too costly. By using the services and business offerings of a vendor made it convenient and effortless for Jim and Candy to start their e-business store. Unfortunately the couple did not have much in the way of professional help, and so they had to create and put together the website by themselves. Additionally they also had to deal with establishing their online credibility as many customers preferred to call in their orders just to talk with a real person before being comfortable enough to place their orders via the webpage.

E-marketing is a fast growing and rapid platform for any form of business. EBay has been highly successful over recent years and this is a perfect example of an online business. The internal and external environments are constantly changing and in order to keep up with these changes, businesses and organisations must make relevant changes, and generate new strategies to keep up with contemporary developments in e-marketing and to also maintain their position in their market in comparison to their competitors.
In 2010, Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems and made marking the company’s entry into the hardware market. This deal entailed that Oracle would pay $7.4 billion (Montalbano, 2009). In return, this would enable Oracle to deliver complete and “integrated computer systems – from database to disk – that would be optimized for easier management, enhanced security, improved reliability and high performance while at the same time reducing the total cost of ownership” (Montalbano, 2009). Prior to this event, the company has never had a server ...
In the fast pace world we live in today, when potential customers come to our website we want to make sure they return to use the website again. There are several items that must be addressed in P.O.D. e-Commerce Business to customer website one of is to have repeat customers is performance and service. “A site must be efficiently designed for ease of access, shopping, and buying, with sufficient server power and network capacity to support website traffic” (O’Brien & Marakas, 2007, p. 294). Some thing that will need to be addressed is how big the server should be that will be used to power the site. If we anticipate our site to have a high volume of customers, we will need to decide how many customers our server handles before it crashes. No matter what we do to increase our site’s performance, we will face the reality of what the customer perceives as high performance and efficiency. With this site, we will have to continue to stay on the cutting edge of technology to keep our customers coming back to our site. P.O.D. wants consumers to come to our site and navigate quickly through their selections in building their cellular phones. When they first come to the sight we can reduce the graphic file sizes to allow the page to populate faster, for example, reducing the amount of images and making them as small as possible, which will also help in the site’s performance.
In today’s market, e-commerce websites are growing at very fast pace, helping online consumers to shop at ease and achieve their goals in their everyday lives. Most of these websites are designed to provide the basis of business services such as online business transactions but do not make purchasing easy for customers.
The future of economic competitiveness for most enterprises relies on entrance and active participation in the e-commerce market. An essential problem with e-commerce is that the controls and organization are different for each site. There is no standard way of building t...
The most common uses of these types of systems are commercial servers of web applications such used in on line commerce. The advantages of this particular configuration are that they can be easily upgraded by the addition of more processors. These processors are available to execute any of the given processes as soon as the operating system recognizes and configures the new hardware. However, the limitations of such a configuration are that with shared memory, there is a strong emphasis on data manipulation. As each processor competes for a limited amount of shared memory, this limits the speed and up-gradability of such a system. Manufacturers must rely on the development of faster, higher capacity memory to overcome this disadvantage. Currently symmetric multiprocessing computers can address up to 14 gigabytes of physical memory and approximately 2 terabytes of storage. (Sequent Manufacturing Inc., white papers 1998)
Last paper, “Marketplaces: a new e-business model. The case of the construction industry”, is more focused on online businesses as the services adding the value to firm’s original activity. From the results obtained in the study it is concluded that perceived quality is the main factor for achieving user’s loyalty in this channel of purchase, while of great importance are similarly to improve the corporate image of the online marketplace and the users perception of it providing them with additional value.
In conclusion, it is clear that each website utilizes a different variation of several business models, while prioritizing different features of the website. For illustration, while the layout of Apivita’s website is orderly and clean, their emphasis on wording and busy text impacts the user experience. Estee Lauder, on the other hand, favors exciting imagery rather than language to attract the user and encourage a deeper exploration of the website. Despite their specific techniques, it is important such businesses conduct thorough reviews of their business models and practices in order to consistently grow and improve as an organization.

In India there are many small entrepreneurs setting up an e-commerce model for their businesses. Ecommerce can be fruitful for an organization over the web only if there is a solution to an existing customer problem. This paper aims at introducing basic e-commerce concepts to entrepreneurs who wish to set up an online model (Internet).
