Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc.
INTRODUCTION
The main aim of this Advanced VCE Business project is to produce a
detailed report on a medium to large business including such things as
descriptions of the businesses objectives, identifying the businesses
type of ownership, explaining the work of the functional areas in the
business etc.
The business I have chosen is Coca Cola. This company is quite large
but I have chosen it because I know that it is quite successful. The
product that has given the world its best-known taste was born in
Atlanta, Georgia, on May 8, 1886. Dr. John Stith Pemberton, a local
pharmacist, produced the syrup for Coca-Cola®, and carried a jug of
the new product down the street to Jacobs' Pharmacy, where it was
sampled, pronounced "excellent" and placed on sale for five cents a
glass as a soda fountain drink. Carbonated water was teamed with the
new syrup to produce a drink that was at once "Delicious and
refreshing," a theme that continues to echo today wherever Coca-Cola
is enjoyed.

Japan announced its new policy and invaded Manchuria and Japan. The U.S. was concerned about Japan’s behavior but did not take war actions so they stopped trading with them. President Franklin moved U.S. Navy from California to Pearl Harbor with the Congress agreement. The United States became a major threat to Japan. Many people believe the Japanese were successful in their attack. But, the result of the attack did not enable Japan to expand in the Pacific. It did not result in the acquisition of more natural resources. And, the restrictions were not lifted as a result of the
World War II, along with its numerous battles, brought great tension between two of the strongest countries during the 1940s: the United States and Japan. Conflict between these two countries started with Japan’s push past Chinese borders into Manchuria in search of the natural resources Japan lacks. At first, the United States avoided military action with Japan by waging economic warfare on them. This economic pressure included the passing of the Neutrality Act, which prohibited the sale of weapons to nations at war (Nash 513). Additionally, the United States placed oil embargoes on Japan hoping it would force Japan to shut down military operations in China. Japan, at a critical decision point, decided to bomb the American naval base at Pearl Harbor. On December 7th, 1941 at 6 a.m., Japan pilots bombed the naval base at Pearl Harbor, taking out the United States’ strongest battleships, killing thousands of people, and destroying hundreds of planes (Sherman). The day after Pearl Harbor, the United States declared war on Japan. Over the next few years, the United States and Japan fought fierce battles for dominance in the Pacific Ocean. One of the most important battles during the United States and Japanese war was the Battle of Midway. Japan was destroying the United States at sea, until the Battle of Midway gave the United States Pacific Fleet an edge on Japanese forces. The Battle of Midway was the most important naval engagement of World War II: it was a decisive battle that allowed the United States to be the dominant naval power in the Pacific and it marked a turning point in World War II for the United States.
As he never actually reached the front line, Brooke’s form of idealistic imagery was fueled by the extensively patriotic propaganda of the time. Death as a theme in ‘The Soldier’ is therefore depicted simply as more of an accepted cost for the country, with Brooke envisioning dying itself, rather grandly as leaving ‘Some corner of a foreign field…forever England.’
During months of negotiations between Tokyo and Washington, D.C., neither side would budge, making the war inevitable. Japan wanted to bring the United States into the war, so they began to plan their infamous attack. Japan’s military envisioned a grand empire that would cover most of Southeast Asia and the islands of the South Pacific. The Philippine Islands are in the middle of that domain, which was at the time American territory. Military bases with thousands of U.S. troops were stationed on these islands. The Japanese predicted it was only a matter of time before America would enter the war. Therefore, decided that a surprise was their best weapon against the United States. Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor was a huge tragedy to the U.S., and caused the U.S. to enter into WWII, but brought more consequences to Japan than could ever be
...ence of allies and enemies.11 World War II continued for four years until the year 1945 when America and Japan were the only two countries participating. In hopes to end the war America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima and then Nagasaki Japan, giving the Japanese Empire no choice but to surrender.12
The war in Asia had its roots in the early 1930s. Japan had expansionist aims in Eastern Asia and the Western Pacific, especially in Indochina2. In July of 1940 the United States placed an embargo on materials exported to Japan, including oil in the hope of restraining Japanese expansionism. Nevertheless, tensions remained high in Asia, and only increased in 1939 when Germany ignited World War II with an invasion of Poland. America’s determination to remain isolated changed abruptly following Japan’s “surprise attack” on Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. Military strategists and politicians poured the majority of American war effort into the European theater, and before the United States could fully mobilize most of South-East Asia had fallen to Japan, including the Philippines. Slowly, the United States recaptured the many small islands invaded by Japan, including Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Tarawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. These “Japanese forces waged a stubborn, often suicidal battles were ferocious; although the Americans won each, resistance.” They demolished the Japanese fleet and establis...
The Pacific war was long a with extremely large casualties on both sides of Japan, AMerica and Great Britain. Many of them occurring in Leyte which was an American island base in the Philippines. Japan had made the Philippines a prime target due to the location which made it easier for them to get supplies and resources from the east Indies while at the same time gaining access to the abundant resources in the Philippines. On October 20,1944 Japanese soldiers streamed onto the island attacking the American soldiers who lied in wait for the attack on the island and in their ships. The battle would become on of the most intense naval battles in World War Two and the fighting on the island would come to resemble the fighting from World War One. The Japanese would attack ships, and even American Airfields with the american fighting back the major counteroffensive attack. The Japanese continued fighting until April 1945 then the Americans gained back control of most of Leyte by Christmas with thousands of Japanese and American soldiers dead. Next, the fighting of Okinawa island, which was a small island four hundred miles off the coast of Japan, making it a prime target for a United States military base for the remainder of World War Two since then they would be able to launch attacks on Japan’s mainland and keep an eye on their movements. The battle began on April 1,

Japan had captured many countries like Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, and the Dutch Indies. They also invaded New Guinea and threatened Australia. They occupied Burma and seemed to try to invade India. On Sunday, Dec, 7th 1941, Japanese airplanes damaged and destroyed our battle ships with bombs. Honolulu is the city in which the attack happened. The attack destroyed our navy and 2,400 Americans were killed. We had to rebuild new ships that were powerful and stronger. The next day, Dec. 8th, FDR declared war on Japan, and Germany declared war on the U.S. In 1942, Americans and Great Britain focused on the Pacific Theatre using Australia as a base. While this was happening the American
The poet Wilfred Owen was one of many poets who were against war. He reflected this idea of anti-war in his poems, one of his poems called “Anthem for Doomed Youth”, mirrors most aspects of war all put together in this short still deep poem. An example of that would be when the speaker stated,” What passing-bells for these who die as cattle?”(1) The speaker asks is there any sound that marks our soldier’s death other than the sounds of church bell’s which are mostly rung to represent somebody’s absence? Clearly, the speaker sets anger as the tone of the poem through this question to show that soldier’s death is unremarkable.. The speaker compares the soldiers to a “cattle” which illustrates that soldiers are treated more like animals with no feelings and also shows how they are killed indiscriminately in war. Finally the line ironically contains an iambic pentameter which is a natural rhythm for such dark, grim, dull subject. The two novels, The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane, and All Quiet on The Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, both present a similar idea of how soldiers are killed out there in the front comprehensively and the dehumanization of war towards its soldiers. The first novel is set during the Civil War, and it focuses on the psychological aspects of one soldier named Henry Fleming and how his naive thoughts about war constantly change through the course of the novel. The second novel presents the life of a soldier named Paul Baumer and his friends who were faced with the terribleness of war and how severely it affected their lives. The Red badge of Courage and All Quiet on The Western Front are similar in the way of how the main characters develop through the novel to change from naïve and innocent men ...
Ultimately, we have two poems which can be compared on the grounds of their subject, but are poles apart regarding their message. The structure of these poems is not what would be typically expected from a war poem, but are structured on the basis of these typical structures in order to create some sense of familiarity. Brooke’s poem expands on this familiarity while Owen attempts to deliberately sabotage it. In regards to content, Brooke shows throughout his perception of the nobility of dying for one’s country, whilst Owen uses all of his poetic techniques to show the opposite.
So when I found out about this assignment, late-July, due to the fact that I was not there for the last two days, I looked for his name on the list. I found his name, and the first thought that came to mind was his ever-famous piece, “The Planets”. Having known that Holst did not like to be recognized by this piece alone, I decided to educate myself in a different piece. When I first listened to Hammersmith, I was immediately drawn to the song because of the ostinato and the contrasting keys in the beginning. I continued to listen to the song, and I fell in love. I knew that this song was one I wanted to write about. The song was put on replay and every time I listened, I paid attention to each and every single element of the song. I found that Holst tends to have that effect on his listeners because every time you listen, you find something new. I began my research and found the backstory to this piece. Holst tells a story about his “two worlds”; the calmness that an unconcerned river brings and a boisterous, bustling city. Already, I knew that this was going to be an interesting piece to write about because of the contrasting
The movements of Mars and Venus in “The Planets” by Gustav Holst are two seemingly opposite pieces, with completely different feelings, tempos, and instrumental arrangements. The characteristics of the two gods couldn’t be any more opposite, yet Holst decided to put them one after the other in his symphony. With Nietzsche's “Birth of Tragedy,” knowledge of the planet’s astrology (and possibly historical context) I will uncover how the two movements are more similar than anyone ever imagined.
I need to produce an analytical report on how a medium-sized or large business manages human resources. I should show the importance of the human resources management to the business, providing a comprehensive overview of all four of the following functions and focussing in depth on one of the functions: * Human resources planning * Recruitment and selection * Training and development *
Whereas, in The Soldier the reader can clearly see that Brooke has a patriotic and proud approach towards the war. He thinks of England as pure and perfect country. ‘In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;’ Brooke is arrogant and pompous that if he dies in the war he will
