Music in the Classroom Tying music into education has found to be most effective with young elementary aged children and those with disabilities. Music has had extreme positive influence on school-aged and non-English speaking children learning to read, write, and remember. It is sort of a motivation to learn and do well in school. Music in the classroom must begin with the teacher and end with the student. If teachers plan to integrate their teaching with music, they must find an effective way to do so. Chalmers, Olson, & Zurkowski (1999) state that music possesses the power to arouse or relax, create a feeling of happiness or sadness, and even alter physiological states of heart rate and blood pressure. The power of music has the potential to be used in an infinite amount of situations. Using music in schools is a more recent idea that is slowly catching on. There is, in fact, a good amount of scientifically based research that shows the numerous and positive effects of using music in the classroom. Over 50 years ago, researches found that playing music in study hall classes led to an increase in reading comprehension (Chalmers et al., 1999). Between then and now, a lot of research has been done to affirm this fact and much more. A common finding is the sedating effect of background music (Chalmers et al., 1999). The style of music has a lot to do with the effects produced. Music played at the rate of 60 beats per minute (the ideal resting heart rate for humans) has shown it can create a relaxed state for both adults and children (Chalmers et al., 1999). Music played at this speed also led to a reduction in noise level and the enhancement of attention (Chalmers et al., 1999). The study by Chalmers et al. lists 10 helpful... ... middle of paper ... ...sroom. Baltimore: Brookes. Langfit, D. (1994). Integrating Music, Reading, and Writing at the Primary Level. As a pastime, he sat around doing his favorite activity, sketching. Because of Disney’s situation, he tried joining the army, but was rejected due to his young age of 16. Because of his rejection from the military, he signed up with Red Cross’s American Ambulance Corps and arrived in France shortly after World War I ended. He was disappointed to find out the armistice was signed and the action was over. He wrote home stating the he missed out on something big. When Walt returned to the United States, he settled in Kansas City and got a job at a commercial art studio (Beginnings: Walt Disney’s Early Years (1901-1923)).

...Although Disney contributes to an important part of the American culture, his destructive methods are causing problems in our society and children at an early stage of their life. Walt Disney, a famous visionary once said, “All your dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue them,” and that is exactly what Walt Disney did. Through struggles and hardship, Walt Disney became one of the most successful American film producer, director, screenwriter, voice actor, and animator. Aside from his accomplishments, Disney should not “capitalized on American innocence and utopianism to emphasize social and political status quo” (Zipes 333). Using fairy tale to convince audiences about utopian dreams and hope is not the right way of doing business because it give people false promises about life being easy like the happy endings in every Disney fairy tales.
The Disney corporation is easily the greatest empire of entertainment in the world thanks to the creator Walt Disney and his brother. Disney’s influence has been great within culture and society and I learned how much of an influence Disney has had through our course this semester. This influence is reflected and broadcasted through the many works and readings that we examined in class. The articles gave me new knowledge about Disney that I was previously unaware of.

Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents, Elias and Flora Disney, gave him the name Walter Elias Disney. Walt was one of 5 children, four boys and one girl. In 1906, his family packed up and moved to a farm in Marceline, Missouri. By this time, Walt discovered that he was very interested in art and drawing. “More things of importance happened to me in Marceline than have happened since – or are likely to in the future.” (Disney, 7) Later on, the Disney family had to move to Kansas City because Walt's father, Elias, could no longer take care of his farm when he became very ill. Elias owned a newspaper company to make money for his family and had Walt and Roy, one of his other sons deliver the papers. In 1910, Walt's family once again packed up and moved to Chicago. Walter did not want to move with his family because he wanted to finish school, so he stayed behind and worked for his brother Herb through the summer. In fall, he moved back with his family and enrolled at McKinley High School. Walt did have an interest in his classes, but found a love for drawing cartoons which were featured in his school's newspaper.
Also, Erikson’s Intimacy versus Isolation theory explained that young adults at this stage will think about being intimate or having a close relationship with a person (Miller, 1983). This could be a friend who they can confide in or a sexual partner (Miller, 1983). Those who engage in marriage at a you...
isolation stage is between the ages of 19 to 40 and is very important to the relationships one will hold during these years. Erikson believed that it did not matter how successful one was financially, they are not truly complete developmentally until one is capable of true intimacy. People that have not successfully created a sense of identity will have a fear of commitment however, someone that has successfully developed a sense of self is able to form bonds and create successful relationships as an adult (Davis & Clifton, 95).
Google is known as being the world’s best company for pioneering the search engine revolution and providing internet users around the world the ability to search and find information with the click of a mouse. Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Brin and Page met in 1995 during a tour for students who were accepted into a PhD program at Stanford University (Rothaermel, 2015). The two found each other to be very obnoxious but spent a lot of time talking to each other and became inseparable friends. Page was working on a dissertation topic and realized that the number of quality of links to a website could be used as proxy for credibility of the website (Rothaermel, 2015). In the early 90’s there was no way to determine what sites
"A nation that allows music to be expendable is in danger of becoming expendable itself," said Richard Dreyfuss during the Grammy Awards broadcast on the 28th of February (National Coalition for music Education 14). This is a very interesting statement because it involves something that is related to everyone -- school curriculum. When school budgets have to be cut, the music classes are usually the first ones to be removed. Ironically, music is one of the most important areas of study because of its positive effects on students' creativity, learning and growth, and everyday life. Since music education has such an important impact on students' academic and personal growth, it should not be removed from students' learning curriculum.
With both parents being employed, the popular course of action is to place a young child in child care facilities, such as daycare programs. These facilities provide beneficial opportunities to a child’s development, however it must be recognized that the home is essential in emotional growth, and parent relationships with the child are still important (Ahnert & Lamb, 2004). These potential benefits include increasing the amount of social contact with both peers and adults, which can assist the child in later social interactions. Introducing children to social situations early in their lives can help them develop higher quality relationships and interaction skills. Furthermore, it can increase how much children get out of education and how they handle conflicts. In terms of education, introducing children to child care facilities prior to enrolling them into preschool and kindergarten can help the adjustment into the education system and prepare young children to form successful

Music is one of the specials in school that can be implemented in the classroom. In kindergarten through fifth grade, music can be used in the classroom to teach students the daily classroom curriculum. There are several ways that a teacher can implement music into their classroom lessons. Some of those ways are creating songs, or finding creative songs on YouTube or other music websites. As a future educator it is my job to use a variety of teaching methods, and one of those methods should be applying music in my lessons.
