The Joy of Learning
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, (to) learn is defined as “to gain knowledge, understanding or skill by study or exposure.” However, this is just a definition and does not give the true meaning of the word. It can not describe the true joy of finally learning and understanding something that has proven difficult. I believe that feeling can be facilitated with a teacher who understand those emotions. I have known teachers who truly portray their love for the art of teaching through their awareness of those special emotions and by allowing those emotions to work for them.
This concept of facilitated learning has been widely discussed in theories. Some of the more popular theories include the behavioral and cognitive learning theories. The theory I will most likely follow once I am in my own classroom will be the cognitive learning theory. The cognitive learning theory is characterized by the focus on covert activities of the mind rather than on overt behaviors like the behavior learning theory. According to Becomin...
Most people in the world thinks that a degree is required almost everywhere. In today’s society it is often thought that if people do not go to college they will not succeed. In Owen and Sawhill’s article “Should Everyone Go To College?”the author respond to people who either go to college and actually earn a degree or people who do not go to college and are actually saving money. The major reason that college is not always the idea for students and their families is the cost. “The cost of college matters as well: the more someone has to pay to attend, the lower the net benefit of attending.” (Owen and Sawhill, 2013, p. 2 ). Although the authors mention the benefits of attending college, they argue that college is only beneficial under certain
Hammurabi and Thucydides were important leaders in the 18th century an 5th century BC. They were great leaders and well known for being idealized leaders. Hammurabi and Pericles had control over their government and guided for the development. On the other hand, the Magna Carta was a document that was forced onto King John of England to stop abusing his powers with the people of England. It is very clear that Hammurabi and Pericles was powerfull leaders. Overall the Magna Carta, Hammurabi and Pericles funeral oration are more or less the same. All the three governments deals with power, authority, money, war even aft
According to the “Hunger and Poverty Fact Sheet” on Feeding America’s website, in 2014 there were over 48 million Americans living in food insecure households, which included 32 million adults and 15 million children. For over 35 years, Feeding America continues to be in the forefront in solving this crisis by providing food to people in need through a nationwide network of food banks. In the late 1960s, Van Hengel established the nation’s first food bank and years later established the first national organization of food banks, Second Harvest. Second Harvest was later called America’s Second Harvest the Nation’s Food Bank Network and in 2008, the national organization changed its name to Feeding America.
In conclusion, it is obvious that the Absolute is recognized to be within more than one god or goddess. The question that then arises is “who is truly the Absolute?” It could be Vishnu, Siva, or any of the forms of the Devi (Durga). The simple fact is that whether the Absolute be Vishnu, Siva, or the Devi, they all encompass the same qualities that the Absolute is understood to exhibit in their respected branches of Hinduism. Since certain people of the Hindu religion believe that their god or goddess is the Absolute, it is possible that the Absolute is simply all of the gods and goddesses in one body working together to be most supreme and powerful creator within the religion.
“TOP TEN FACTS ABOUT HUNGER IN THE UNITED STATES.” PR Newswire 21 Dec. 2011. Academic OneFile. Web. 6 Feb. 2014.
Food insecurity is an issue faced by millions of Americans every day, and the biggest group affected by this is working families with children. Food insecurity is so big that the United States government has now recognized it and provided a definition for it. The United States government has defined food insecurity as “a household level economic and social condition of limited or uncertain access to adequate food” (USDA.gov). Food banks and anti-hunger advocates agree that some of the causes of food insecurity are stagnant wages, increase in housing costs, unemployment, and inflation of the cost of food. These factors have caused food banks to see a change in the groups of people needing assistance. Doug O’Brien, director of public policy and research at Chicago-based Second Harvest says “’we’ve seen a real shift in who we serve. A decade ago, it was almost always homeless, single men and chronic substance abusers. Now we have children and working families at soup kitchens’” (Koch). These families that are feeling the effects of food insecurity will not be only ones affected by it, but all of America. Studies have shown that there is a link between food security, performance in the classroom, and obesity. If this issue is not faced head on, America will have a generation of children not fully prepared for the workforce and high health insurance rates due to obesity health issues.
Overall, I believe Rawls proposes a rational society that is unbiased, but I find fault in the fact that Rawls’ theory so closely resembled the American system. Rawls’ main argument against ethnocentrism is the notion that people, regardless of culture, would choose democracy just as people, not products of a democratic society. I believe that there are other preferred forms of government which provide people with the values or ideals they are searching for in a
in fact, higher unemployment, lower household assets, and certain demographic characteristics also lead to a lack of nutritious food.” what Feeding America is saying is that in the United States the reason for the lack of food is from a number of issues like the loss of a job, the prices on food, these things can significantly affect the poor and hungry. When prices rise, consumers often shift to cheaper, less-nutritious foods, make the risks of micronutrient deficiencies (the lack of essential vitamins and minerals required in small amounts by the body for proper growth and development) and other forms of malnutrition, which can have long-term unfavorable effects on people’s health, development and productivity.

One of the most important ways in which this class provided a beneficial learning experience is the fact that as a student it gave me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge by being able to properly do research, document that information, As wells as bringing my message in an informative, answer-driven format by broadening my communicational skills.
This being my first year of teaching I feel there are so many things that I have learned, and have helped me too become a good teacher. Yet I have so much more to learn, I still believe that students have the ability to learn and as a teacher it is my job to find ways to help them to become the best person they can be. Through being a reflective teacher, using professionalism, respecting diversity and having collaboration and community connecting this can be accomplished. When I am having fun teaching the student will have learning that material, this will help them to be relaxed and engaged in that lesson. I feel it is important to connect what they are learning to things that they have experienced in the real-world.
Special Education is becoming more of a concern with each passing day. There are more and more problems with teaching children with special needs as well as there are problems with diagnosing them. In the first half of the 20th century it started to become increasingly popular in the United States. (Ferguson 148). It is a tedious and time consuming task but it can be very rewarding to see the child progress of time and advance their learning skills.
Being a student for the majority of my life, I had never fully understood why anyone would desire to be a teacher. But after four semesters at College, I am slowly changing my attitude. As an education major, I now attend real classrooms and observe the wonders of how a young child’s mind works. Through my observations in actual class settings, I have also come to realize how delicate a child’s mind is and that the slightest external influence can build or destroy that child. I too want to experience the joy and wonder of seeing a young ingenuous mind finally understanding a new concept. I want to see the student blossom and grow as a result of change and experience, not only in a classroom setting, but also through social interactions with his or her peers.
I think all students yearn to learn. We as future teachers need to motivate students with learning, exploring, investigating, discovering and inquiring. Together you will be learning and teaching.
