Messages from Hip-Hop Artists
Hip-Hop has come a long way in our generation. From time to time an artist or a video gives a positive or negative message to our viewers. There have been many controversial issues that focus’s on what the rapper is trying to put out. Some people may look at the same song or video, but have a different opinion on it.
Artists have different outlooks on things in there life such as the rapper Nas. He has a new song titled “I Know I can”. This song gives a positive message to all viewers, and more importantly the kids. His message is that he encourages kids to grow up and be anything they set their minds on. For example, the chorus “I know I can, be what I wanna be, if I work hard at it, I’ll be where I wanna be” (ohhla). Artists like him that makes people want to think positive and feel good about what they want to do.
On the other hand, there are artists that give negative messages such as the rapper 50 cent. He is a new artist that hit the billboards. His outlook on life is different from others. In his lyrics, he raps about guns, ki...

To say it lightly, Stanley Crouch does not like the hip-hop genre of music. The dreadlocks, the clothing style, and the "vulgar": gold chains are just a few things he does not approve of at all. (Crouch, 1 ) It astounds him to see how far African-American music has fallen since the days of the Motown. Stanley was quoted as saying this about rap, "It is rudeness, vulgarity, and pornography disguised as ‘keeping it real.'" (Crouch, 1) He also went on to say the hip-hop music genre has the worst impact of all music genres on our culture today. (Crouch, 2) Crouch believes one does not need much talent to become a successful rapper unlike the jazz greats he listens to all the time.

Either transduction or transfection can be used to get the therapeutic genes into the patients system. Transfection is when the genes are introduced physically or chemically in a way that allows the cell membrane to be temporarily permeable to a foreign DNA. In the second method used for gene therapy, transduction, there is a beneficial gene added into the genetic material of the virus, which then is allowed to infect the target cell which is the indirect transfer method for gene therapy.
There are many famous and important people who were a part of the Civil War and drummer boys are some of those people. R.C. Murphy said, “When most people think of the Civil War, they think of famous generals or battles fought or how politics entered into an Army operation. But when I think of the War Between the States, I think of quite possibly the most important member of either side--that is the drummer.” Drums and drummer boys played a crucial role in wars, mainly in the Civil War. The first time that drums were used in America in battle was during the Revolutionary war and they were used for several different reasons. Drums became crucial during the Civil War. Adult soldiers were not the ones that were playing drums in battle, but more on that later. There are a few drummer boys that stand out among the rest because of what they did during the Civil War.

Despite being magical of gene therapy, it is high-risk. Few people got benefits from it, and it has a low rate of success. Prior to the human trial, Batshaw and Wilson had done experiment on animals to ensure the safety. Over 20 experiments have been done on mice but only 12 of them survived at last (Sophia, M. and Kolehmainen, J.D., 2000). More seriously, complicating diseases, which can be more dangerous than genetic diseases, might set in during the treatment period. In December 200...
These articles depict the controversies of the hip hop industry and how that makes it difficult for one to succeed. Many of these complications and disputes may be invisible to the population, but these articles take the time to reveal them.
According to act-utilitarianism, the controversial lyrics of hip-hop artists may have a greater balance of good consequences over the bad consequences. Therefore, they create the greatest happiness within hip hop culture. The function of "raptivism" is feasible because of the potential power of this grass-roots movement to create a flux of positive m...
A genetic disorder is a disease that is caused by a mutation (change in DNA sequence that makes up a gene) in a person’s DNA. Inheriting a faulty gene can cause susceptibility to cancer and can cause many different conditions. A mutated gene creates a defective protein, which results in a disease (Defective gene▬►defective protein▬►disorder). Since gene therapy targets the faulty gene it treats the actual disease instead of treating the symptoms like most current medicine and treatments. Examples of genetic disorders are phenylketonuria, Huntington’s disease, sickle-cell anemia, cystic fibrosis and polycystic kidney disease. Gene therapy can also treat acquired diseases like some cancer, and Parkinson ’s disease. In 1990 adenosine deaminase deficiency (the lack of an important enzyme in the immune system) was the first genetic disorder to go through gene therapy trials. It was chosen because a simple gene causes it. The promising results gave gene therapy a good and hopeful start.
Gene therapy is the therapeutic delivery of nucleic acid into a patient’s cells as a drug to treat diseases such as Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) and Adenosine Deaminase Deficiency (ADA) and possibly cancer as well. It was first researched in 1985
Though this controversy took place not that long ago in 2004 when I was in fourth grade, I was not aware of it until last year, my freshman year of college, when I was taking a course in African American Studies titled AASP 202 Black Culture in the United States. Near the end of the course, we explored the history of hip-hop and its transition up until today. One of our assignments involved watching the 2006 documentary Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes directed by American activist Byron Hurt, that took a closer look at the implications of hip-hop that include misogyny, violence, hom...
Gene therapy enables patients to survive incurable diseases. In the field of genetic diseases, ADA-SCID, CGD and hemophilia are three main ones. ADA-SCID is known as the bubble boy disease. CGD is related to immune system that would lead to fungal infections which are fatal. Patients with Hemophilia are not able to induce bold bleeding (Gene therapy for diseases, 2011). Gene therapy also has good effects on cancer treatment and neurodegenerative diseases, which include Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease. Viral infections, including influenza, HIV and hepatitis can also be treats by it (Gene therapy for diseases, 2011). According to the Science Daily in 2011, gene therapy now can apply to heart failures and neurologic diseases as well.
