My writing styles have changed drastically over the past four years of high school. This memo will explain how my writing has changed and how my knowledge of writing has improved.
Aspects of My Writing during High School
During my English courses throughout high school, I learned many things from writing simple journals, research papers, and a single term paper. During high school, I was laid back and procrastinated for much of my work. During the latter part of high school when I wrote my term paper my senior year, I found out that working a little every night writing a few paragraphs helped me out greatly. I was not just throwing something together just to get the grade and the paper finished. I spent time on the paper and my grade, a B+, reflected my efforts. My resources were limited and the topic covered a subject that I did not find interesting at all. When I find something interesting to write about, that is when I can do my best work. When I wrote my term paper, I was not interested in the subject of the paper. I started looking up the information and successfully wrote the paper.
When I wrote many of my papers, I tried to be as organized as possible. Writing research papers always seems to give me problems. My greatest weakness is going to the library and finding the right information to write a paper. When I write a paper, I always construct an outline or thesis. It is easier for me to think about ideas and then write about them. Starting on a paper from scratch without an outline or thesis gives me problems because then I mumble on about the same information. My educational goals are important to me. My goals are to come out of English 100 and be able to write any kind of memo, document, or resume; because I know someday every one of these writing projects will become useful.
I did not come here to get average grades; I came here to get the best grades possible. Even if some of my work does not show the best qualities sometimes, I am still trying my hardest. Other goals I have deal with this English class. I am hoping to learn from you how to write memos, which I am doing now, and also learn to write to others possibly for jobs or something else of importance. I do not want to waste my money over the next four years, so I am going to study and write all my papers the best I can. I am very excited to be here at BVU and I will make my time here worth while.
I have never liked writing; I always thought it was a waste of time. It was a great therapy but I never found academic writing to be useful just tedious. Only ever writing when I had too made it harder for my writing skills to grow or improve in any way. I have not taken an English class since the 10th grade, even then I never gave it much effort, just doing what I had to so I could pass the class. Then I jump in to College English 1010, I feel like I do well in all other subjects but this one. English is my worst nightmare.
For example, in the local school, stereotypes such as the image of the ‘wild man’ are consolidated by claiming that there was cannibalism among the indigenous people of the northwest coast (Soper-Jones 2009, 20; Robinson 2010, 68f.). Moreover, native people are still considered to be second-class citizens, which is pointed out by Lisamarie’s aunt Trudy, when she has been harassed by some white guys in a car: “[Y]ou’re a mouthy Indian, and everyone thinks we’re born sluts. Those guys would have said you were asking for it and got off scot-free”

Writing papers is one thing you can guarantee yourself that you will have to do in college, along with other educational requirements. For some people, it might be a frustrating experience or a great opportunity to show their knowledge on a given topic; or sometimes both. Everyone has methods that work better for them than others and they learn to embrace those specific methods. Simple strategies such as outlining and good research can make writing a paper a more pleasant and less nerve-racking experience.
Throughout my college career I noticed how different my form of writing has become. When I came to this realization, it made me wonder why this is so. Is it that I am simply just writing a lot more than I have in the past? Is it because I am simply maturing as a writer and combining all the techniques I am picking up on my own? All these questions, along with many more, rambled around my head sounding like a resounding gong struggling to find a true conclusion. As the school year went on I came to find out the truth about why my writing has changed, which brought me to a rewarding conclusion.
One goal is I want to see what I am capable of. I have a terrible habit where I doubt myself, and that doubt sometimes leads me missing out on life changing opportunities. There’s a saying that goes, “Doubt kills more dreams than future ever will” which really emphasizes how doubt is what makes us runs away from our hopes, goals, and dreams. It is something that makes us terribly afraid to try something new or make an effort with things. However, I truly want to not run away from that doubt, but to be able to overcome it. Even though I may be doubtful at times, I am full of determination to pursue excellence and strive to do my best in everything. For example, I want to see how great I can make my education be in high school. I have a strong connection and commitment when it comes to learning because it’s always a joy and experience when it comes to knowing new things. I believe that knowledge is one great element in life where it leads to the highest success, and it can only be acquired one way through diligence and effort. When it comes to my education, I make sure to not take it for granted and to never give up, even if it may feel brutal at times. In my opinion, I care what I learn and put towards my education rather than the grade given since with all the effort and work I put towards to what I am told, the grade follows. However, that does not mean that I am careless about my grades. I greatly cherish school and can be an example towards others at Rocky Mountain when it comes to setting academic goals and aspiring all the knowledge I want in my education. I want to influence others to make an effort when it comes to their education and see what they’re capable of. That’s why whenever I look at teachers, I see that they are sharing the gift of new traits for our education, for our futures in life. My my personal goals are to get a 27 on my ACT, have a above a 2.8 GPA, and get a basketball scholarship to ORU. I need to jump into college with alacrity.I plan on reaching these goals by working hard and really focusing in all of my classes every single day and making sure I make enough time in my week to study for all my tests I take. Even if I have antipathy for a class I still need to be inquisitive and ask questions.
I have always been a straight A student, so my number one academic goal is to maintain that streak all though college. Another goal of mine is to finish my core classes early so I can have a bump free senior year. By taking Dual credit and classes throughout the summer I can reduce my workload later on in the future. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. It is right of a patient to be safe at health care organization. Patient comes to the hospital for the treatment not to get another disease. Patient safety is the most important issue for health care organizations. Patient safety events cost of thousands of deaths and millions of dollars an-nually. Even though the awareness of patient safety is spreading worldwide but still we have to accomplish many things to achieve safe environment for patients in the hospitals. Proper admin-istrative changes are required to keep health care organization safe. We need organizational changes, effective leadership, strong health care policies and effective health care laws to make patients safer.
As a full-time college freshman student attending Fullerton College and majoring in Elementary Education, my professional goals are performing well academically, apply for scholarships, study well, qualify for the honors program; raise my cumulative grade point average of my freshman year to a 3.5, have a B and above in all classes, graduate college with Latin Honors, transfer to a four-year university to California State University Fullerton or University of California Irvine for my last two years of college, plan out my schedule, ace those exams, midterms, tests and finals, turn in my assignments on time, take classes in the summer 2014 semester, improve my critical thinking, on-the-spot essay writing and oral presentations or speech skills, begin my career as a teacher from grade levels Kindergarten to fifth grade and to teach abroad at international schools.

Writing is an excellent practice because the benefits gained are essential to an individual’s success in a job, or just conveying their ideas through words. Within the semester we have written three major papers, and have rewritten two of those papers. In each paper I discovered new ways to get information, and have gained more experience in sculpting a paper. Obtaining this new knowledge of how to present my ideas in different writing styles will help me expand my range in how I can write, and essentially allow me to be better prepared for upcoming jobs following my college education. I can safely say that with the papers from this semester and their mistakes that dealt with minor grammar errors, awkward sentence structures, and oversimplifying
The role of theory in social research is that without a sociological theory, nothing can be sociological. Facts disconnected from theory are just facts. Theory makes the facts speak; the facts don’t and cannot speak for themselves. Without a connection to other facts, we cannot assess anything. With theory, you can relate facts to each other. Theory is the body of interrelated logical concepts or universals that connect to empirical facts and phenomena. Empirical research is okay as long as there is theory involved with it. Theory helps us select which facts are important and which are not. Theory also allows us to organize the facts. Theory helps us create a story and tell which the dependent is and which the independent variable is. Theory points us to what we don’t know, which is the point of all the research in sociology. Theory also allows different concepts of sociology to talk to each other, and that allows sociology to progress. Emile Durkheim had stated in “What is a Social Fact?” that reason develops theories and, and observation backs them up. According to Durkheim, social facts are not ideas, they are facts and they are observable. Facts without a certain theory backing them are and will be meaningless. We had talked about this in the very beginning of the semester about how stating certain statistics such as ‘men make .75 cents more than women’ might be true, but just stating that will not be enough. In sociology, what need to be done are the reasons for stating that fact, and what it means for the society as a whole. Therefore, facts cannot stand alone without theory because they complete each other in a way.
