A Life Of Spirituality Overcoming A Life of Materialistic Riches
In this world, there are two sorts of people, some who find
fulfillment in their lives through spirituality, and those who find
fulfillment in their lives through material possessions, such as money
or power. It is reasonably shown in “Singing Silence” that spiritual
wealth is far superior to material wealth because a life which is
filled with spiritual means is much more enjoyable and successful than
a life filled with material wealth.
“Singing Silence” by Eva Lis Waurio values the experiences in life,
and how important the journey itself is, it’s not essentially the
material possessions you collect that make the journey what it is.
Vincente was a very happy man, even though he was very poor and didn’t
own many material belongings; he was still content with himself. “Old
Vincente of Fortnentera was perhaps the happiest man I’ve ever known.
And also perhaps the poorest." This shows that even though this man,
Vincente was poor he was somehow still happy. He didn’t need material
assets to fully live his life and be the happiest that he could. It
shows that even though you have nothing in your life that’s valuable,
life itself is something that which you could value a great deal.
“Vincente has the search. It is not what one finds, you know, but the
search itself that is important. Only the search.” this quote
perfectly describes what was mentioned earlier, life as a journey is
significant, not the material wealth that is accumulated along the
way. This shows that life itself is not about the destination, but the
experiences that you find along the way that makes the des...

knew that he could find the amphora, and that nothing could get in his
way, even his own age. The author is trying to say that you are never
to old to do anything, because age is not what matters in
determination, but it is the mind and soul, if they are willing than
anything is possible. Through Vincente’s determination, he found a
beauty in the under water world that he had never seen or heard of
before.
A life of spiritual wealth is much more satisfying to some because
they can find a great deal of happiness within this spirituality. The
people who fulfill their lives through spirituality find much more
achievement within themselves, then those who fulfill their lives with
materialistic fortunes, because their achievement is only through
their material possessions.

The Socratic Seminar that took place on October 9th revolved around the topic of lotteries and if money can make you happy. One article that I happened to focus on was “Why money can’t buy you happiness” by Tom Stafford. The article discusses how winning the lottery can show that people aren’t truly happy with it and why we might be bad at knowing what gives us true satisfaction in the first place. A point I brought up during the seminar was in regards to the last statement in the article, “Money doesn’t buy you happiness, and part of the reason for that might be that money itself distracts us from what we really enjoy.” I questioned if money makes us distracted from what we enjoy, what could help us focus on what we do enjoy? A peer responded
Deep in the territory that is called South Africa, teenagers and young adults have a peculiar way to express their wealthy status. They like to organize large dance offs between rival groups where the side who has the most expensive and lavish things to destroy wins. Smashing brand new cell phones on any available surface is encouraged; dumping premium alcohol on the ground is something that should be done; and burning money is most definitely the cool thing to do. They like to walk around in their fancy designer clothing that could rival any celebrity on any tabloid and destroy stuff that they spent a pretty penny on. These people call themselves the Izikhothane. The extravagant, wasteful lifestyle of the Izikhothane people completely ignores

Cisneros does a very good job in showing relation to any age group to whatever the reader is. It really does feel as if the reader is the one in the place of writing this instead of reading it. This short story is real enough to make the reader believe that it is their own words and that is exactly what Cisneros is trying to do so that she could show the emotional experience that everyone goes through which most people call growing up. Growing up is not an easy task but once you get past those years that are the hardest you start to sit back and wonder if maybe it would be better to be back there. Rachel states, "When you are eleven, you're also ten and nine and eight and seven and six and five and four and three and two and one."(Cisneros 26). At some point in our lives we demonstrate more youth, regardless of how old we might be. This is valid for all grown-ups. Out of three hundred and sixty-five days there is at least one that involves tears from stress or anger. If Rachel were around our everyday lives she would say, "you are acting like you are three years of age". Cisneros reminds us that there is no exact age inside of us, instead we are many different ages put together. This is where the phrase "age is just a number" comes
“Because I am female I am expected to aspire to marriage, I am expected to make my life choices always keeping in mind that, Marriage is the most important”. This is a series of lyrics from Beyoncé’s song Flawless. This quote is important because I feel this pressure when I am supposed to talk about ‘a rich and fulfilling life’. I almost feel obligated to mention ‘a family’ as one of my requirements to a rich and fulfilling life. As a woman, society expects me to mention children and a husband to complete my life. However, I don 't want to take the traditional route. To me, a rich and fulfilling life can mean different things. Important values to me revolve around my goals and dreams in life. I think a rich and fulfilling life to me includes
Every person is on a journey of spiritual formation (Mulholland, 1993). What 's frightening is how this process can happen with or without our intention. Taking this a level deeper, every human is formed with an innate desire to worship (Warren, 2002). Putting this all in perspective; whether a person intends to or not, they are worshipping someone or something, and in so doing are being formed into the likeness of this person or thing. Knowing this, it is easy to see the importance of spiritual formation on the psychological health of a person. For example: if someone is being formed into the likeness of a demanding spouse, they will quite possibly grow into someone defined by bitterness or feelings of insufficiency. Therefore, it is vital
Secularised ethics can be defined as “The basic principles of right action, especially with reference to a particular person, profession etc.” Christian ethics however cannot be as simply defined. Ethical values of Christians cannot be reduced to a set of rules that can be easily followed and obeyed. A definition that gives an idea of Christian Ethics can be given in this form,
The cliché saying, “Youth is wasted on the young” may apply to many people but not to all. Oskar Schell, a nine-year-old fictional character, can attest to that. In Jonathan Safran Foer’s novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2005), he implies that youth is defined by a person’s intellectuality, relationships, and experiences.
Money is probably one of the most important things in this world. Without it, life would be very hard. With it, you become economically stable making life would be easier in some ways. But the real question is, can money actually make someone physically and emotionally happy? There are many sides to this debate; some who say yes and others who say no. Though most people agree with the statement, “Money doesn’t buy happiness,” there is still a large amount of people who disagree with it. They believe that money does indeed buy happiness and that it’s the most important thing in the world. There is no right or wrong answer to this question, it’s just a matter of what you believe in and your values.
Spirituality has become a title of a section within the public library, but without God at the center of a spiritual experience, it is counter to life in the Spirit. True Spirituality has to do with recognizing our soul and spirit, and who it is in relation to God. Though physical attributes may result from this inner union with the Holy Spirit, the nature of what is seen will be an effect of that which is not seen.
Money and Happiness are two things that we have all given a lot thought. We put lots of effort into these two things either trying to earn them or trying to increase them. The connection we make between money and happiness is strange because they are two very different concepts. Money is tangible, you can quantify it, and know exactly how much of it you have at any given time. Happiness, on the other hand, is subjective, elusive, has different meanings for different people and despite the efforts of behavioral scientist and psychologist alike, there is no definitive way to measure happiness. In other word, counting happiness is much more difficult than counting dollar bills. How can we possibly make this connection? Well, money, specifically in large quantity, allows for the freedom to do and have anything you want. And in simplest term, happiness can be thought of as life satisfaction and enjoyment. So wouldn’t it make sense that the ability to do everything you desire, result in greater satisfaction with your life.
Spirituality can have many different definitions, depending on who is asked. It can be something as simple as looking for a higher meaning to life, or something so complex that one can base their beliefs, religion and overall life around it. There are several different ways to express one's spirituality; rituals, songs, dances, stories, and writings are all common methods of expression.
“Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life.” According to Buddha, everyone needs some form of spirituality to define his or her life and existence. Webster Dictionary defines spiritualism as “a system of beliefs or religious practices based on supposed communication with the spirits of the dead, often times through mediums.” Though this is one general definition of spiritualism, this concept is one that does not hold a conclusive meaning. Each and every single person has the ability and right to create and practice their own idea of spiritualism. From ancient times to present day, the term and practice of spirituality has transformed, particularly from region to region. Despite the discrepancies in practices and overall understanding of this idea, spirituality has had an effect and impact upon all of humanity since the creation of time. This religion that is believed to have been established in the early eighteen hundreds, after two little girls claimed to have the ability to talk to spirits, sparked interest in this spiritual movement, allowing it to spread rather rapidly over many geographical locations. Aside from being recognized as a religion, spiritualism is also believed to be a form of philosophy and a science in which spiritualists believe that there is life after death and try to demonstrate this through the ability of attempting to communicate with those that have passed on. Spiritualism was socially different from other religions in existence at the time because it presented followers with a more tolerant belief system that assimilated the principles and facts from a selection the world's religions. Spiritualism also made it acceptable for women to play a disti...
