What People Like about Films and How they Keep the Audience's Attention
What is it that you like about films? There’s no right answer to this
question of course. Many viewers have different opinions on what
catches their attention- it could be the comedy in a movie or the
horror that keeps them interested. The genre is what the film is
related to for example: the film ‘Final Destination’ is related to
thriller whereas ‘Cats and Dogs’ is related to comedy. The genre is
aimed at certain groups such as audience who like adventure, action or
romance in a film. Young children, generally observe animation
movies, like ‘Sherk’ and ‘Antz’. These films consist of imaginative
beings that only appeal to children but not adults. Most films
include a hero, but to make the film complete you also need a
villain. The relationship between these two characters is what makes
the film more engaging and attractive. In all films to give a clear
connotation to the target audience, messages are not just delivered by
the acting of the actors- it also involves various presentational
devices. These devices are able to convey to the target audience the
filmmakers point as well as communicate the right impression of
particular characters. One example of a presentational device is
costume-a evil character might wear an evil-looking mask, a long black
cloak and a black hat, all of which indicate that this character is
evil. However, a villainous character doesn’t always have to wear
dark costumes, so there are more presentational devices to imply that
the character is evil; e.g. the setting, the music, body language,
character interaction, props, lightin...

...hildren do not know this. This is why the
children are able to enjoy the film more then the adults. The
children would expect the ‘goodie’ to win in films like this, but the
anxiety of just waiting for the ending and the anxiety of the plot as
well as the excitement of the narrative makes the film all the more
enjoyable. In films, some parts show the ‘baddie’ winning and the
children would say, “oh no the goodie is supposed to win, not the
baddie.” This explains that at times the children do expect the
‘goodie’ to win and not the ‘baddie’. This film can also be enjoyed
by adults,
From now on I will look out for any film language used in a film as
well as try to figure out how the maker’s have emphasised that this
character is good and that one is bad (if I can, I will try to watch
the making of the film).
IV. Film Plot: This film pretty much is all about the advances in American technology and how it affected the space race against the Soviets. It revolves around the Mercury 7 crew and test pilots competing with Soviets for the race to outer space.
The Dream Girls film is a wonderful musical drama, yet merely watching the movie does not deliver the impact that ‘seeing’ the movie can. Evaluating elements of their construction and bringing together an effective message. While watching a movie is good, being able to critique film assists you to not just watch but to ‘see’ the movie; because it makes messages clearer, it inhibits social interaction, and it brings deeper understanding of a movie. In this critical analysis I will show the reasons that the elements of film making are critical in receiving the story or message being conveyed.
In the movie, The Human Experience, Abraham Maslow’s and James Fowler’s beliefs play a major role in describing the three experiences that the characters chose to live out. The characters Cliff, Jeff, Michael, and Matthew join each other on three different encounters to experience life in other people’s shoes. The encounters were homelessness, caring for physically and mentally handicapped children, and visited Ghanaians with HIV AIDS and leprosy. Each character learned lessons and were humbled immensely by their experiences.
The Bad and The Beautiful (1952) and State and Main (2000) are films within films that unmask Hollywood Cinema as a dream factory and expose the grotesque, veneer hidden by the luxury of stars. The Bad and the Beautiful, directed by Vincent Minnelli, is a black and white film narrated in flashback form. The films theatrical nature requires more close-ups than wide-screen shots to capture the character’s psychological turmoil. For example, Fred and Jonathan’s car ride is captured in a close-up to signify their friendship; however their relationship deteriorates after Jonathan’s deceit. While the camera zooms out, Fred stands alone motionless. Here, Fred is captured from a distance at eye-level and he becomes ostracized by the film industry and
We live in a society where a life of another human being is losing value by the minute, murder is almost more common than marriage, and monsters no longer lurk under our beds but inside us. Even sadder, this is acceptable; this is our normal. When we are children, we have an indescribable innocence; we are invincible. As we grow up, life happens, and we go through hardships that break us. Stephen King says it best with the words “sometimes inhuman places create human monsters” (Stephen King, The Shining) It is in the battle of finding ourselves in the process of trying to pick up the broken pieces. We tend to feel our losses more intensely than our gains- the exact reason we often see the walls we build from our past and not the strength gained in our experiences that aid us in our futures. We all have both good and evil in us, and we become the one we choose to act on. The majority of us choose to represent our good side, the more socially acceptable choice, but some fall victim to their darkest self. However, in order to survive in our society, we generally act on the good in us, and in order to maintain the good, we must feed the bad sometimes. This Is why I agree with Stephen king on his view of why people like horror movies?

Describe some ways in which business values and artistic values in Hollywood contend with one another.
Before the civil rights movement could begin, a few courageous individuals had to guide the way. Dr. Vernon Johns was one of those individuals. Dr. Vernon Johns was a pastor and civil rights activist in the 1920s. Johns became the pastor of Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama in the late 1940s. During his time as a pastor, Johns preached many sermons on how African American people were being treated not only in the community but in society. Johns on multiple occasions upset his community through his ideas on social change. Through a sociologist perspective, many sociological concepts were displayed in The Vernon Johns Story. Some of those concepts included: ascribed status, conflict theory, deviant behavior, alienation, and
Does anyone know why people find an interest in decapitating someone or slowly watch them get eaten by the dead? In the story Why We Crave Horror Movies the author, Stephen King, quotes numerous lines about death, murder, spirits, and many other violent quotes that people could think of. The author does a good job at this because of the way the story is said that makes people feel inside where the story takes place. Stephen King correctly states that people are all mentally ill, people need horror movies to stay normal, and to watch movies for that weird sort of joy.

The Associate is an entertaining movie that brings forth gender disparities in the workplace. Whoopi Goldberg, Laurel Ayers, portrays a financial analyst who has been stuck in a position that does not give her true credit for all of her hard work and talents. The Associate exemplifies the sexism that is occurring in the workplace through satiric wit and a strong story line.
The Reasons Behind the Popularity of Action Films In this essay I am going to explore the conventions of action films and their popularity. People love action films, and when they go to see one there are conventions you would expect to see in the film All plots of action films are based on the same outline, Hero and villain meet, there's a disruption of order, and mission, then everything is sorted out when the villain dies and everything returns to normal. There are Stock characters that you expect to see in this genre of film, the hero, the villain and two attractive ladies. The main action is around a male hero, however, modern films have featured female heroines for example Angelina Jolie in 'Tomb Raider'. If the hero is male he is always good looking, intelligent, brave, chauvinistic, and manages to escape from life threatening situations, however the hero will always have a weakness, and if the hero is male the weakness is normally women.
SPEAKER CREDIBILITY: I love horror flicks, in fact I’d rather watch a scary movie than any other genre there is. There’s something about the spine tingling chillers that get me excited and wanting more blood. I am charismatically enticed by horror flicks and simultaneously disgusted by them. I have been watching in various forms monsters chase young victims through dark homes and alleys, with knifes, chainsaws, drills, axes, and other weapons for years. The violence is so foreseeable, that I often know when the bad guys will appear, who will die and in what order. The arrangements of killer pictures are familiar, but nonetheless disconcerting. At night, after watching a horror film from, I switch on an extra light to help ease my discomfort, at times I've even resorted to sleeping with my mother and putting on a happy cartoon.
The theories of the window and frame had its origins in the schools of formalism and realism. Both schools main objective was to amplify the prestige of film. During that era of film was an upstart sideshow attraction, high class form of entertainment was the theater and the visual art forms of paintings and statues. Both schools saw cinema as a way of looking a through an aperture but keeping the audience at a distance from the subject on the screen. Whether looking through at frame or looking through a window the audience would be viewing the subject matter but they would only be able to absorb it. That’s where the similarities end the formalist lead by theorist Sergei Eisenstein saw film as frame and would create shock in an attempt to provoke or raise consciousness. Sergei Eisenstein would create what he wanted to the audience to see in his films. For example in the Battleship Potemkin Eisenstein wanted to address the situation with Russia and he created the situation in his film to incite a revolution by creating chaos. The realism school lead by André Bazin saw cinema as window. To Bazin a spectator would be apart of the film as more of a witness more than just a spectator. In the movie Rear Window Jefferies was witness to his neighbor wife murder while looking through window because while looking through a window what one sees is real.
Many people go to the movies. The movies are an escape into a fantasy world. Everyone has a different preference on what kind of movie is the best. Romance, horror, action, and comedy are different types of movies. The kind of movie someone goes to see can give clues to what kind of person they are.
