Global Warming Information
What is Global Warming?
Global warming refers to an average increase in the Earth's
temperature, which in turn causes changes in climate. A warmer Earth
may lead to changes in rainfall patterns, a rise in sea level, and a
wide range of impacts on plants, wildlife, and humans.
What is Global Warming caused by?
Global warming is caused by the "Greenhouse effect." Just like any
other planet, the Earth absorbs the sun's heat and radiates it back
towards space. But greenhouse gases trap heat and reflect it back
towards the Earth. The more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the
more heat that is trapped. The less the amount of greenhouse gases,
the less heat that is trapped.
schematic of CO2's actions in atmosphereEach greenhouse gas has its
own important role in trapping the sun's heat, the most significant of
which is water vapour. On a clear day, water vapour can comprise 60 to
70 percent of the greenhouse effect. Next in line, carbon dioxide
contributes an additional 25 percent.
The changes in the balance and concentration of all these gases can
affect the Earth's temperature, and these temperature changes are
often referred to as "global warming" or "global cooling." Greenhouse
gas concentrations in the atmosphere have been naturally rising and
falling for billions of years, creating cold and warm periods in the
Earth's history. For example, as the Ice Age went on, scientists
believe the amount of natural carbon dioxide in the atmosphere dropped
over thousands of years, reducing the greenhouse effect, and making
the Earth cooler. But many disagree on how that change in carbon
dioxide ...

...oo late. If we do not stop it or slow global warming down then our
descendants will have to pay the price for our laziness over the
greenhouse effect. I think that we should be concerned about global
warming because if we are not concerned then we won't do anything
about it and the effects will be irreversible. There are a number of
knock-on effects from global warming, such as; some people are arguing
that lack of water through global warming could mean war between
different countries. This is only a suggestion as yet, but in the
future this suggestion could become very real.
The future looks bleak whilst major polluters, such as the USA are in
denial over the effects, which their massive energy consumption is
having on the planet. The Kyoto agreement must be adhered to by all
countries for mankind to have a future.
Overall, emissions of CO2 increased by 0.3% to 6.8 tons per person in the United States. Emissions of greenhouse gases other than carbon dioxide, which account for 17% of total greenhouse gas emissions, declined by 0.6%.
The documentary, Cowspiracy, questions why the majority of foremost environmental organizations are disregarding a prime cause of environmental harm. In an hour and 31 minutes, co-producers Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn assert that society’s institutional and individual attention to certain environmental issues will not make a difference unless people also come face to face with the truth of animal agriculture. Animal agriculture’s environmental effects are so convincing that visible progress elsewhere cannot oppose its catastrophic and developing influence.
Climate change and Global Warming are out of control. This means that, no matter what policies, processes or actions are implemented, the Earth as we know it will never be the same again. There is significant evidence to support this hypothesis. The dilemma becomes whether we can limit the damage and adapt to a new status quo or not. Rising sea levels and the damage caused by this phenomenon has irreversible impacts on coastlines worldwide. Damage to sensitive reef systems cannot be fixed. This also has permanent impacts of the ecology not just of those immediate areas but also the ocean as a whole.
Global Warming, much of what does or does not happen forty years from now rests on our actions or inactions taken between now and then. The crucial question is whether we should pour all our resources into mitigation – reducing our carbon emissions. According to scientists who study the climate there are other environmental problems; “we now face a global crises in land use and agriculture that could undermine the health, security, and sustainability of our civilization”.
In this paper, I researched some newspaper articles, scholarly journals, and websites to evaluate different thoughts of people about global warming and its effects, and also the methods that are being performed in different places to eradicate global warming. The research helped me to foster more than what I already knew. Each topic is summarized and evaluated based on author’s purpose. They explain the general ideas of the articles and develops the meaning
What is Global Warming? Why is it important, or not important? Well, global warming is the gradual increase in the temperature of the earth’s atmosphere generally attributed by the increased levels of carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, and other pollutants. Global Warming is real and is a current problem that we live with every day. Part of the cause of global warming is Study shows that the Earth’s temperature around the world has increased by more than 1 degree Fahrenheit since the late 1800s. In the Arctic about twice of the temperature around the world has also risen. This issue affects our daily temperature. Global warming has become a subject of political controversy. This debate has been subject to whether humans are at fault or if it is just a course of nature. Although many debates go on, questions of how to respond or help slow down the process of global warming are much more important focus. The main cause of global warming is the human contribution of the “greenhouse effect”. The Greenhouse effect is a cycle in which the temperature on Earth raises, during this, certain gases in the atmosphere trap energy. Global warming is a serious subject, very real subject that is being addressed and can be slowed down.
I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group, it was the data that got me. I was convinced that the people weren’t the ones causing global warming, but when I started doing research I understood that we are the main cause. This paper will tell what global warming is and its causes.
Thesis statement: The global warming and the resultant climatic change is due to uncontrolled human exploitation of earth and its resources thereby emitting large volumes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
The earth’s climate is predicted to change because human activities are altering the chemical composition of the atmosphere through the buildup of greenhouse gases –– primarily carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide. The heat-trapping property of these gases is undisputed. Although uncertainty exists about exactly how earth’’s climate responds to these gases, global temperatures are rising. Go to the Emissions section for much more on greenhouse gases.
Global warming and the greenhouse effect are issues discussed by scientists all the time. A natural process that keeps earths temperature at a livable rate is called the greenhouse effect. The energy from the sun warms up the earth when the rays from the sun are absorbed by greenhouse gasses. The gasses then become trapped in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous oxide are the most common greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gases cause the radiant heat of the sun to be trapped in the Earths lower atmosphere which causes global warming. If there weren’t any greenhouse gasses, the earth would be really cold due to very little sun rays being absorbed on the earth. Global warming can and will lead to several problems that affect the environment in which we humans live in. These problems can lead to warmer temperatures all around the world, it can endanger animals and the wildlife, and it can lead to widespread flooding from the glaciers melting. Here are a few more future effects that I will discuss in more detail about. Damage to human health, Severe stress on forests, wetlands, and other natural habitats, how fish will be affected. Global warming is a serious problem that will affect our generation when we are older.
If it is not taken care of now, it can lead to very serious consequences that will affect our daily lives. “Carbon dioxide levels keep going up. The more CO2 the temperature gets warmer.” This is true, this past summer was hotter than ever; I rarely went outside because I felt like I was melting. The heat is so bad that the leaves from my trees are black and contain holes as if the sun rays are burning straight through them. Al Gore provides evidence of how the heat is causing masses ice melts in Glacier National Park, Kilimanjaro, Columbia, and the Himalayan Glaciers. Kristof is also concerned about global warming in his article “Warm, Warmer, Warmest”, he states, “the Arctic plain will probably be lost anyway in this century to rising sea levels” due to global warming increasing, sea levels are rising which is causing even more global warming. This is considered the “positive feedback loop” which means that a small change leads to an even larger change of the same type. Kristof wants us to realize that even the little things we do no matter how small they are, they tend to harm our environment. Us drilling for oil may not seem much; however, it is triggering global warming. Al Gore and Kristof both mention that man is the main reason of why the issue is
Everyone knows that it’s important to reduce our impact on the environment, but some may not know exactly how crucial it is. It doesn’t seem to be a big secret that global warming is already upon us, and we need to do all we can to stop serious climate change before it happens. But some of the most recent studies indicate that climate change is already happening and will continue for the years to come regardless of actions taken henceforth—it is already too late.

Global Warming is a condition caused by greenhouse gases and human activities. The increased concentration of greenhouse gases due to activities such as deforestation and fossil fuel burning is causing the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans to warm up. As a result of this, global warming has some serious effects in the shape of extreme weather, species extinctions, and rising sea levels. These effects can contribute to the changes that are taking place all over the world, most of which are dangerous enough to pose a threat to the survival of life on Earth in the future.
In conclusion, many facts point to global warming being detrimental to our world. With scientific predictions, rising temperatures, human causes, drastic climate changes and animal adaptations being some of the more thought about topics it`s hard not to agree that our world can not continue to be used as it is. Even with some scientists arguing against the topic, our Earth`s orbit changing the temperatures before and have been through hotter and cooler time periods the pros still outweigh the cons. This is why we, as a global population, need to take into consideration the outcome of our planet should we continue to abuse it the way we do. Our earth and resources are not a right but a privilege and we should learn to treat them as such before we no longer have either.
