A Modest Proposal for Methanol and Ethanol Powered Cars
"We need more stringent regulations on car emissions... Let's add MTBE to the fuel- that will reduce pollution... If people would just stop driving so much, pollution wouldn't be so bad..." People have long recognized the problems with the gasoline we used now. We have tried everything from putting regulations on emissions, to putting additives in the gasoline (only to discover later that MTBE got into the groundwater), to campaigns to get people off the road. However, more and more cars are on the roads as the population increases, and people are not going to stop driving. Additives are as likely to cause problems as they are to prevent them. Just changing the regulations is not going to fix the environment.
The United States can decrease its dependence on oil-producing nations and improve the environment without robbing every citizen's pocketbook. The gasoline used in most cars today produces pollution, endangers people's health, forces us to be dependent on OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Companies) or other oil production organizations, and contributes to global warming. The main reason people have not converted to cleaner, healthier fuel is that hybrid and electric cars are more expensive than the cars and gasoline we are using now. However, we could implement a program for selling cleaner fuel at a lower cost than it is now offered. If this program were organized correctly, the increased costs would be minimal in the long run and the benefits would be enormous. After considering several possibilities, I concluded that alcohol-burning cars are more practical than other environmentally friendly options because electric and h...

The reason they turn to drugs is because they cannot handle the mental and physical pain of returning from Vietnam and not being accepted by their own country. Today, I think people turn to drugs for the same reasons as back then. Maybe today the reasons aren't as good, but basically they are the same reasons. People get hooked on these drugs because they cannot deal with problems and then it ends up leading to more problems for themselves, their families, and people in their everyday lives. When the song was saying, "there's a hole in daddy's arm and that's where all the money goes", you see ( ) so many people wasting all their money on drugs and ruining their families. When I heard this song, I think of the sad things in life like when someone dies because this is what is happening to his father in the song. I also think about how horrible it must have been to come home from all this violence and not even have your own countries support. This is what I felt like when I listened to the song "Sam Stone."
school. It was a wonder that he got into Notre Dame with his high school record.
James Cleveland Owens otherwise known as “Jesse” was an Olympic long jumper and sprinter whose speed and inspirational defiance of Hitler shocked the world. The 1936 Olympics were held in Berlin and Adolf Hitler of the Nazi party believed that these Olympic Games would showcase the great skill of the Aryan (Caucasian) race, and the last person he would expect to show him up would be an African-American man (Barnes 1). With sixty-six U.S. Olympic contestants competing in the Games, the American race was really put on the spot in front of Hitler, the most powerful man in the world (Smith 1). Jesse Owens was one of these men, and while being laughed at by Hitler during his one hundred meter sprint against six other Caucasian sprinters, he won by a landslide. With that victory and his other three Olympic gold medals the Owens name was able to be remembered and looked up to for eternity. Jessie Owens is such a great athlete and individual because he defied Adolf Hitler, achieved more than expected of himself, and broke records with ease.
Both gasoline and ethanol have been around since the time of Henry Ford. Gasoline has been the more accessible of all of them. Ethanol and natural gas have been gaining more support over the years and now gasoline contains ten percent ethanol. Propane is mostly used in fleet vehicles. Cars today can run on gasoline with a little ethanol, but too much ethanol can severely damage a vehicle. Only flex fuel vehicles can handle more than ten percent ethanol in a system. Natural gas vehicles are starting to come onto the market. All three fuels have their pros and cons, but the ultimate decision is up to the consumer.
He started his official football career at Ringgold High School where he stunned the coaches and became starting quarterback during his junior year and he was also phenomenal at basketball and he was so skilled at basketball that he got a scholarship to North Carolina. Michael Vick was born june 26 1980. Michael Vick had grew up in a vilante area. Michaels mom was worried about that he was going to do drugs so she had signed him up fo sports to keep him out of trouble.”According to Michael Vick's bio it states that when he started to play football his mom started to notice that he had his dads athletic ability for football”.When he got to high school his coach saw that he had a lot of talent. His coach kept on telling him that all you need to work on is passing and go to gym to go work on your frame because at the time he was really skinny. His head coach had encourage him to become a mobile quarterback because at the time the offensive line was weak. So Mike had took advantage of that, later on after high school mike got a scholarship from Syracuse university but Michael decided to stay closer home so he had choice to play at virginia tech. When Vick got there the team was trash and they never played on tv but all of that had changed. When Michael Vick started to play he did not disappoint the team.”According to Michael Vick's bio,it states in paragraph five that he had took his team to the sugar bowl but sadly he and his had lost because the other team's quarterback had throw a clutch touchdown and they had lost by one point, so michael lost the heisman award to a nineteen year old qb”.Michael Vick had enter the 2001 nfl draft and had got picked in the first round. He had got drafted by the Atlanta falcons.Vick was the highest paid player in the nfl. When he had earned the starting spot he was leading the falcons to the playoffs but sadly in the 2003 season he had got hurt and they didn't go to the playoffs.”According to espn Mick Vick was a role model to young fans he would be on cereal boxes, he would be on shirts or posters, and last of all rides. But sadly he had got arrested for doing dog fighting so he didn't play in the league for two years”. As soon as he had got released

The controversy of athletes being overpaid dates back to 1922, when well-known baseball player George “Babe” Ruth received $50,000 within the first year of his career. Ruth’s extensive wealth was bolstered by dozens of endorsements (Saperecom). As it is shown in figure 1, in the Fortunate 50 Tiger Woods takes the number one spot for highest paid athlete. Tiger’s salary for 2011 is $2,294,116 and like Babe Ruth, his endorsements exceed his salary earning $60,000,000 making his total $62,294,116 (Freedman). It’s crazy to think that 89 years ago professional athletes scarcely made more than the average person today. This is of course not counting the inflation that has occurred since the years which Babe Ruth played baseball.

My position on this paper is that electric cars are better and my opponents therefore take the position that the traditional gasoline cars are better for the society, because that´s what is currently being widely used. They give the reason that electric car´s benefits are not balanced with its negative aspects, and that we are overrating the benefits of electric cars. In response to their reason that gasoline cars are what’s been widely used until today, once fossil fuel and such resources runs out, we will be forced to make a switch to using alternative energy. Therefore, we should be proactive, and make the switch before we run out of gasoline, so we can be more prepared for the change. The opponents also argue that the environmental benefits aren’t very significant, but as time goes on, and all the consequences will build up and hit us hard if we don’t do something about it. Thus we should do every little thing to reduce our air pollution, and preserve the
Even though Jesse Owens came from a poor family he still had inside of him perseverance, zeal, and courage to be the best Olympic athlete he could be. His legacy has carried on inspiring a whole new generation of track and field athletes. In fact, he was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Gerald Ford in 1976. Discrimination in his own country and in Germany didn’t stop him or discourage him from doing his best.
Jesse Owens accomplished more than just four gold medals in the 1936 Olympics. He showed the world that anyone can do whatever they want if they follow their dreams. Owens created a lasting legacy not just because of his record running times, but also due to the obstacles he overcame that plagued minorities in Hitler’s Germany. Jesse Owens’ influential story of the Berlin Olympics became an important part of American history since it symbolizes the drive of the American spirit to succeed despite the challenges we may face.
With the fuel crisis that is happening in the world today it is now more important than ever to begin the look towards alternative fuel sources. One smart step for the US would be to wean the country slowly off of the gasoline fix and to look into alternative fuels to replace the “never coming back” fossil fuels. It turns out that Ethanol as a hybrid fuel proves to be a notable candidate for this gasoline intervention, per say. Now the United States is currently looking to subsidize fossil fuel alternatives. However, before considering ethanol production as a governmental subsidy, using large amounts of hard earned tax payer money, there has to be many alternative factors that come into play such as making sure the pros out weight the cons as far as environmental benefits and performance output and not to mention looking at the entire matter from an economic or investment perspective. First we need to consider what the ethanol we are talking about actually is and how can we obtain it.
