Freedom, a word used by Americans often. One hears "we have freedom of speech, and religion" etc. Soldiers fight to protect "the peoples" freedom. Have you ever noticed what nationality these soldiers are? The American military is the most diverse fighting force then any other fighting force in the past. The Christian Science Monitor article states, "Most important, they will be far more diverse than almost any military force of the past." Today's military is made up of Anglos, African-Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Immigrants. Immigrants fight for freedom; in fact, some of the immigrants are undocumented. Immigrants fight to keep a freedom they never had. Immigrants fight for a country they are not from. Immigrants are willing to risk their lives' for the United States. Why are immigrants willing to risk their lives' to fight for the United States? Immigrants serve in the military because immigrants want to show that they can contribute just as much, to the United States, as "Americans" can. Although immigrants can contribute just as much, to the United States, immigrants are still limited as to what positions they can hold in the military.
Immigrants can get in the military many ways. Immigrants need a green card to join the military. Military.com states, "Immigrants holding a valid green card may enlist." In the Prolog article, Illegal Mexican immigrant who fought in Iraq facing deportation from US, Juan Escalante forged a green card needed to join the army. How many other immigrants forge a green card to join the army? Another way to join the army is if immigrants are recruited. Immigrants must have a valid green card or have U.S. citizenship. Immigrants usually have to show an interest in joining to...

...us Medal of Honor, the highest level of recognition presented by the President of the United States." (Hispanic Link Article). Only a few out of millions that have served in the military have received that medal. That says a lot about immigrants' contributions and loyalty to the United States.
Immigrants have shown that they can contribute just as much, to the United States, as "Americans" can by the actions they have taken in war. Immigrants risk their lives for freedom they do not have yet. The promises in our contemporary moment are great, because immigrants are slowly being accepted into the U.S. and are being granted citizenship. The perils are still there, however. Immigrants are still limited in the military. Immigrants can't hold as many positions, in the military, as citizens can. We, as a nation, just have to keep working at getting equality.
Immigrants have enhanced our culture by making it a combination of everyone’s diverse customs and traditions and, allowing us to enjoy different things. They bring in innovated ideas and success which benefits our economy and creates jobs. Immigration has also allowed people from different countries to seek opportunity and an escape to gain freedom and rights. America’s economy has been boosted, many different cultures have been brought together as one, and people are able to succeed and find opportunity because of
Although the United States has replaced a partially drafted army with an all-volunteer army, the Selective Service System stills allows men to be drafted if the military is too small (Olson-Raymer, par. 48-50). When the United States invaded Iraq, hundreds of thousands of Americans voluntarily enlisted (par. 55). Despite this, military personnel claimed that there was a shortage of soldiers, and a draft would be beneficial in the war effort (Thompson, par. 7). Fortunately, the draft remained and still remains unnecessary. Whenever a draft has been implemented in the United States, controversy has ensued. Some people think a draft

In America, we live by the idea of freedom. When one thinks about freedom, America comes to mind. The stars and the stripes. The Declaration of Independence. The found fathers. We have created the ultimate "land of the free", our national anthem even embodies the idea. Freedom means having your own voice, and being able to do what makes you happy. Forcing young men and women to take out two years of their lives to serve for our military is not even close to following the idea of a free country. We have the right to choose what field we want to work in, and we should have the freedom to do so.
Mexican Americans have been racialized thought out the United States history which did limit their involvement in society. They would live under ethnic tension, segregated communities and schools. In PBS article Fighting for Democracy, explains that multiple Mexican Americans and Latinos volunteered for the military. They were subsuming into the military population, but the armed forces didn’t keep count of their enlistment so it’s hard to say and an exact number of Latinos who served. They provided courage and devotion in battle.
The United States of America has the largest foreign-born population in the world. With nearly thirteen percent of the total population being foreign-born, one may find it hard to imagine an immigrant-free country (U.S. Bureau of the Census). Immigration has been an integral part of the United States’ overall success and the country’s economy since it was established and without it, would have never been founded at all. Although there are some negative issues associated with immigration and many native-born Americans believe to be more of a problem than a solution, overall it actually has a positive effect. Immigrants in America, among other things, fill jobs where native-born Americans may not want to work or cannot work, they contribute to Social Services and Medicaid through taxes and they help provide the backbone of America, especially by working jobs that natives may have not even considered.
About 65,000 immigrants are serving today. Out of those 65,000 immigrants 11,000 are foreign-born women (Batalova, Immigrants in the U.S. Armed Forces). The top two countries of origin of military personnel are the Philippines and Mexico. The United States offers 11 million undocumented works legal statuses, and visas which can increase its national security (Furchtgott-Roth, 4 Benefits). These workers will be able to have social security numbers and other legal papers that makes it easy for government authorities to track down criminals. This is a crucial tactic especially when our world is dealing with the war on
The pros of immigration are still evident to this day. In 2006 it was announced that over 60,000 immigrants were active duty soldiers, making up 5 percent of U.S armed forces. Putting their life on the line for a country they were not born in, but nonetheless a country they loved enough to serve. Immigrants make up 20 percent of the soldiers who have been given Medal of Honor awards during U.S wars (Egendorf pg. 66). The Medal of Honor award is the most prestigious medal that can be bestowed on an American

In conclusion, America’s journey while not always easy and not without conflict is enriched by its immigrants. Immigrants choose to come to America because there is something in our culture that is missing in their own culture. Immigrants can blend in with American culture and retain their own cultural identity by passing along the best of both cultures.
America is known famously throughout the world with the nickname 'The melting pot.' The reason behind this is that America is extremely diverse and has many different people. Immigrants give America the chance to know the culture of many countries. They bring in their culture, religion, economic benefits, and ideology to America. I believe that the United States should allow legal immigrants from all over the world because they bring many benefits to it. Immigrants are a positive influence on United States of America.
Many people have come to America for a better life and to get away from all the troubles of their homeland. These immigrants, like those throughout U.S. history, are generally hard workers and make important contributions to the economy through their productive labor and purchasing power. America is considered a melting pot of many diffrent ethinic group. Immigrants should be able to enter America with little if any resistance from any border patrol. Immigrants in america take the low paying, hard labor jobs that , unfortunately, some americans don't want.
Immigration has changed majorly over the years. The system that the immigrants go through has evolved into a simpler system over the decades. Also the family life of the immigrants has become much more supported, as opposed to back when it brutal and children were sent to work right beside the adults. The living conditions and job opportunities of the immigrants have transformed into a healthier environment, and the challenges they faced have become easier to handle. Immigration has been the key to success in some cases, but in others their stories are harsh and hard to hear. The transformation that immigration has gone through over the past century is tremendous and should be recognized by all.
Immigrants have always been an important part of United States’ population. Each year, there are hundreds of thousands of immigrants, from all around the world, including legal and illegal, come into the United States for job opportunities, new life, or the American Dream. “Immigrants have contributed significantly to the development of the United States. During the Lincoln administration, immigrants were actually encouraged to come to America, as they were considered valuable to the development of the country.” (Soylu & Buchanan, 2013). They believe that the US will give them more freedom, protection, and opportunities, which sometimes it becomes the major issues for immigrants. That’s why “the U.S. population is becoming more racially and
...immigrants made sacrifices. Not only were the parents affected but children were also affected. By looking at situations from a Immigrants point of view and how they express things the way they do, you will be able to see that they are more than grateful for the opportunities given to them.
