Throughout time spent to achieve higher education there have been multiply resources to aid in preparation. These resources can be used to help students who are having difficulties planning their routines for success. Students struggle at times with anxiety when preparing for class examinations. This paper will provide some strategies that can be used to ease test anxiety and help plan a routine for success.
When taking any notes for a class, use the same notebook. Different notebooks should be used for each class to ensure information does not cross (Rozakis L. 2003). When you start class for the day ensure you date your entry before taking any notes. Dating the entry will aid you in not only referencing your notes later, but it will help you in studying by allowing you to reference your textbooks according to the date you started the lesson. Notes should contain a record of all important information and major topics the instructor presented. When studying your notes you should try to recall all the major ideas in the order they were presented. By recalling the information in chronological order it will help you stay focused. When information is written on the board it should be copied into your notes. If the instructor took the time to write the information on the board, likely the information is pertinent to the lesson and will be seen again at a later date. Be involved in the class. If your instructor is moving rapidly through the lesson get their attention and ask them to slow down. You are in class to learn, don’t be afraid to speak up and ask questions on topics that you don’t understand. Questions are a way you can show the instructor that you are not just a sponge, you are there to learn. Questions can also demonstrate ...

Students at times don’t feel like they are properly prepared for their examination due to a lack of intent. These strategies can be used to set yourself up for success and plan a routine. With a proper study routine and along with a time management program will aid you in being successful.

Many students face at least one important test in their life. And if that particular student is one of the many that experience test anxiety, this can affect the students test scores. Test anxiety can be caused by the lack of preparation by the student, but it could be caused by the fear of failure as well. Students have so much resting on college and their ability to do well, such as a good paying job to be able to support themselves. Test anxiety causes nausea, light-headedness, and it could even cause the student to have a panic attack. Students that have severe test anxiety do not have a fair advantage (ADAA,

One of my studying techniques is to have one of my family members verbally assess me on the topic of examination based on information in my textbook for the given subject. This compares to what I have just learned because I sometimes alter the location of study during these sessions, such as one time in the dining room and one time in another room of the house. However, I would always stay on one subject for a long time, which may not have been a very good idea. Another studying technique that I used to have was studying the night before or the morning of the exam because I thought (with the influence of a girl from my fifth grade class) that the information would be easy to retain since it was so recently reviewed. This compares to the article since all of the material comes back to me, but is mostly forgotten long after I take the examination. This goes along with the scientific study mentioned in the article that students who had two studying sessions did exceptionally well on a test given right after the sessions, but gradually forgot the material (Carey, 2010). An additional studying condition I have is to do practice problems and tests on the material I will be tested on. This connects to the reading for the reason that I am being exposed to a variety of problems, which, according to the text, is a brilliant way to review. My studying habits will be adjusted to
Kimora reflected on successful test taking strategies such as marking the test date on a calendar, begin studying days ahead, make a study plan of what to study, use time master sheet to break down things to study in specific blocks of time, use index cards, quiz yourself before the test, get a good night's sleeps, eat a good breakfast before the test, and drink a glass of water to your brain is hydrated and has
In recent years, it has become a well noted fact that the education system has become in many ways tougher, for better or for worse. Nevertheless, for anyone susceptible to an anxiety disorder, school often aggravates their symptoms. Today over 10 per-cent of European and American citizens suffer from an anxiety disorder, and it is an even greater number among young people (Points of View: FEAR NOT). As English-speaking countries move forward through time, testing becomes more stressful and more competitive, it should be expected that anxiety will increase. As well, according to Psychology Today the “[a]verage high school student [in the United States] has the same level of anxiety as the average psychiatric patient in the early 1950s” (Psychology Today: How Big a Problem is Anxiety Today). This is logical considering that a similar study done in 2010 concluded that high school and college students were more than five times as likely to develop either depression or an anxiety disorder than a student fifty years ago (Psychology Today: The Decline of Play and the Rise of Children's Mental Disorders?). This excessive rise exemplifies the amount of stress students have. As the years pass, it is becoming increasingly evident that anxiety disorder is prevalent among a majority...
One of the most stressful aspects of high school and ultimately college is the ability (or lack thereof) to form good study habits. One may often hear the dramatic tale of a college student staying up all night in order to receive a good grade on his or her test the following morning. This student either completely fails the test, or does really well. These results depend on the students themselves and their ability to study in this manner. In this essay, I will compare and contrast fellow two of the most popular forms of studying—periodic and cramming—in an effort to allow high school students to effectively choose which form may best work for them.
Throughout school, I suffered from test anxiety. Taking standardized tests always stressed me out and I would perform much lower than my grades suggested I was capable. Because of my low SAT scores, I worried that I would not be accepted into the college of my choice, but over time I have realized that my positive attributes can offset my low test scores. Working with high school students, I would love to guide students burdened by test anxiety find ways to overcome their fears.
Two of the most important study skills are setting goals and taking notes. A student may set a time goal, such as studying a few hours a week; set a general goal, such as trying to study hard and stay on schedule; set a specific performance goal, such as getting at least 80% of the homework problems correct. Another important study skill is taking notes. Students generally make two kinds of mistakes in taking notes. One is to try to write down everything the instructor says, which leads to confusing notes. The other is to copy concepts that they do not understand but hope to learn by memorization. Good notes are compromised of the following: 1) written information summarized in your own words; 2) outline the important concepts; 3) try to associate the lecture notes with the material text; 4) asking yourself questions and making up questions from the notes.
...occupying their minds with irrelevant things that do not pertain to the task at hand (Vassilaki, 2006). Thus, their energy is wasted when it could be used for task elaboration or to help improve their overall academic performance. Students with academic anxiety are self engrossed and lead to their own academic demise. Test anxiety does not only affect a students performance on a test, but Huberty (2009) asserts that test anxiety overtime tends to contribute to more common underachievement. He describes the consequences of constant test anxiety including lowered self-esteem, reduced effort, and loss of desire to complete school tasks. Students who have academic anxiety also have a higher risk of developing depression, and often feel deprived of confidence (Cunningham, 2008). Thus, academic anxiety can become extreme, and have negative effects of students’ well being.
Going to college can be an exciting new experience that can challenge a person more than he or she thought was possible. Attending college, especially for the first time, can be a very stressful time in a person’s life. Some of the stress that is associated with attending college are living in a new place, having to meet new people, having new responsibilities, and of course the homework that goes along with taking classes. If a person does not learn to cope with these stressors in a healthy way, that person may become very overwhelmed and possibly depressed (Hoeger & Hoeger, 2010) .To keep one’s body and mind safe from the overexposure of stress, they can practice the following techniques.
...igence. The second study strategy will be to continue the use of the above methods while interpreting my intrapersonal intelligence. To do this I will sets goals as to when my work needs to be completed and how much studying I will do each night. By doing this I will be reducing the amount of stress I will have from studying by not cramming the night before the test.
In their review of the relevant literature, they found that time spent in study skills programs were the greatest predictor of academic success for students who were academically unsuccessful prior to receiving academic support services. In the study that they conducted, results showed that students who were academically unprepared at pretest actually performed better after attending the study skills program than an academically prepared comparison group who had not received study skills training. The researchers found that the study skills program improved the participants’ academic self-efficacy as well as their study skills. Their finding indicate that receiving academic support services focused on study skills is associated with students feeling more capable of success and with improved academic performance (Wernersbach et al., 2014).
A well created test can measure learning and diagnose a student’s weakness (Merrow, 4). In testing, the idea is for the student to get the correct answer on information they know and incorrect answers on the information they do not. However, a testing error may occur. A testing error is when a student gets an answer correct of information they did not actually know or an answer incorrect, they may have actually known (Gellman, 30)The people who create these tests want straightforward measures. However, test designers do not design these tests to measure what a student can do academically (Fusaro, 1). Large testing companies produce tests and sell them all over the country. This causes the test to be not specialized for the school or county and students do not do as well as they could have if the test was specialized (Popham, 4).three possible ways of testing a student’s knowledge exists: multiple choices, answer in essay form, or they are asked to perform a task and then graded on the performance (Merrow, 5). Some tests are designed to assess an individual’s performance, like an
Academic stress can take complete control over the student enduring it. Researchers say that the most common form of anxiety causing academic stress is achievement anxiety. This type of anxiety is likely to occur when a student has a fear of failure in an academic related situation. However a report conducted in 2000, Research in Higher Education” showed that academic stress and achievement anxiety can have a positive effect on a students grades. This is because students are aware of the fa...
I will make and keep a regular study schedule. Through the time schedule, I can properly allocate my time. Study is important, but we should also allow ourselves to have some time for rest and relaxation. Next, study at the right place is also an important method to study. The right place is useless without the right surrounding conditions. For me, I will choose the same place to study everyday. For example, library is a good choice to study, it was also a place that with zero distractions. When you are studying, you should keep away from all the distractions, such as music, television, movies, friends, mobile phone and so on. In addition, we must maintain the correct attitude when we were studying. Do not waste time, the time will not wait for you. Don’t be childish, don’t think than I can’t, allocate the time for study and the time for play. I never start to study while I’m stressed. You’ll get frustrated and it isn’t going to help de-stress you. When you are stressed, you should clear your mind for a little while and study when you can focus on
