There have been a lot of earthquakes in different countries for the past years. But what if an earthquake happened right know would we be prepared. Does Illinois have a plan?
Yes, Illinois does have a preparedness plan. So if a earthquake does happen this very second we will be ready for anything. The recent thing to do during a earthquake is to drop which means stop everything you are doing. Than you cover which means you go under a desk or something sturdy to help prevent flying debris and things falling on you. The very last thing you do is hold on to something so that the building you are in is moving you can stay still so you don’t get hurt by anything. (Southern California Earthquake Center, 2014) You should also have a buddy with you so that if anything happens you don’t freak out and if you get super hurt the buddy would help get though the earthquake. (N.A., 2010) I think that every state should have a preparedness plan for all the terrible disasters that can happen when you are least expect it. One of the things we should by enough water for everyone in your family so that if you cant go to the store and buy water you can stay hydrated. What would you do if you lost everything because of an earthquake? How would you get help? On October 16, 2013 a 7.2 magnitude quake struck the central Philippines. People lost lives, homes, family, and friends. Unfortunately, there were many aftershocks and tons of people were injured. People reacted by getting help from the Red Cross, providing evacuation centers, and gathering resources.
Hazards pose risk to everyone. Our acceptance of the risks associated with hazards dictates where and how we live. As humans, we accept a certain amount of risk when choosing to live our daily lives. From time to time, a hazard becomes an emergent situation. Tornadoes in the Midwest, hurricanes along the Gulf Coast or earthquakes in California are all hazards that residents in those regions accept and live with. This paper will examine one hazard that caused a disaster requiring a response from emergency management personnel. Specifically, the hazard more closely examined here is an earthquake. They feel waste is to dangerous to just leave it.A good thing about power plants is that they are safer than other methods in the working field.Nuclear power is useful but with the radiation given off or if the power plant exploded or something along those lines the radiation is stronger and more powerful and can spread across a location and kill many. Nuclear power is also safer having less deaths on the job compared to other generating sources known as oil refiners or other fossil fuel jobs.
Media coverage of such cases have made the public less comfortable with the idea of moving further towards nuclear power and they only opt for reducing human activities to reduce global warming. It is true that there have been some notable disasters involving nuclear power, but compared to other power systems, nuclear power has an impressive track record. First, it is less harmful and second, it will be able to cater for the growing world population. Nuclear power produces clean energy and it delivers it at a cost that is competitive in the energy market (Patterson). According to the US Energy Information Administration, there are currently 65 such plants in the Unite States (National Research Council). They produce 19 percent of the total US energy generation.

Once the hazards have been identified and reduced the CERT member can them begin preparing for a potential disaster. You should develop a family disaster plan that includes plans for both an evacuation and sheltering in place. Disaster preparedness kits should be compiled. The kit should include basic supplies to meet the family’s needs for a few days if needed. This kit should be mobile as to meet the needs of both evacuation and sheltering in place (CERT Training Manual, 2011).
