There have been a lot of earthquakes in different countries for the past years. But what if an earthquake happened right know would we be prepared. Does Illinois have a plan?
Yes, Illinois does have a preparedness plan. So if a earthquake does happen this very second we will be ready for anything. The recent thing to do during a earthquake is to drop which means stop everything you are doing. Than you cover which means you go under a desk or something sturdy to help prevent flying debris and things falling on you. The very last thing you do is hold on to something so that the building you are in is moving you can stay still so you don’t get hurt by anything. (Southern California Earthquake Center, 2014) You should also have a buddy with you so that if anything happens you don’t freak out and if you get super hurt the buddy would help get though the earthquake. (N.A., 2010) I think that every state should have a preparedness plan for all the terrible disasters that can happen when you are least expect it. The earthquake preparedness plan has been updated in 2010. They update the website as they find new information on how to protect us during a earthquake. (McSpaden, 2014)
We have a lot of nuclear power plants in Illinois 6 to be exact. There is no risk if a earthquake were to happen because the nuclear power plants are away from the fault zone. (Mcspaden, 2014) Also since Illinois is now for having tornados the nuclear power plant is build to withstand a tornado so it would not knock done if a earthquake were to happen. To protect our population if a earthquake were to make the gas line rupture We need to have a plan on what to do. One of the things we should by enough water for everyone in your family so that if you cant go to the store and buy water you can stay hydrated. You should also keep a little bit of cash on you so if the atms are not working you can have money. (Mcspaden, 2014)
Next, some of the costs that families and businesses would have to make are update their house to make sure it is structurally sound so that if a earthquake were to happen are houses wouldn’t fall down. Another thing we might have to do is we might have to put storm shutters so that are windows don’t break. (Mcspaden, 2014) We would have to put ball barrings on some of the taller buildings so that the building can move a little so that it doesn’t fall completely over. (Holt,)
