The Impact of World War One on America The Impact WW1 had on a number of countries was great, but what did it have on America, did they gain anything? Did they lose anything? That I what I will find out by looking at the American economy, the American armed forces and Americas society in general, these three topics will help me to find the answer to my question. After the war, countries looked to America for money and resources, and this led to the economy being bigger than ever, the economic boom. The economic boom involved five main factors, which made America look like the god of the world after the war. The fact that America was rich in natural resources such as coal, iron, oil, and timber meant that they could easily afford to run bigger and bigger factories. Bigger factories meant that there was going to be a big increase in the number of workers needed, and this need for more workers meant that there was room for a change in the way factories operated. Henry Ford, the founder of Ford cars realised this and so came out with the idea of the Assembly line. The assembly line was simple, it brought the materials and products to the workers, which saved time walking across the factory floor and meant the pace of production, could be dramatically, increased. This is what happened, because there was the capability of manufacturing products at a fast rate, mass production came into play, and now everything was being manufactured in large quantities. The increase and the need for manufactured goods meant that there were more methods of advertising being introduced, s... ... middle of paper ... ...that finally women were receiving the franchise. This was a slow process but by April 1917 11 states mainly in the west allowed women the right to vote, although most of the government disagreed with female suffrage since the war women had moved from being house wives in the kitchen to being bread providers in the factories so all believed they should have the right. In 1918 the 9th amendment was passes allowing the women to vote and by August of the following year it was made the law. It is clear how much WW1 did contribute to the change of attitude that dominated the roaring twenties, and again shows what actual impact the war did have on America. In summary all the above quite clearly shows what sort of affect the First World War had on the economy, the armed forces and the American society in general.
Mobilizing a Nation: America’s Entry Into World War I. Works Cited Missing Woodrow Wilson delivered his now-famous War Message to Congress on April 4, 1917. Four days later, Congress declared war and the United States became a formal partner in the war to end all wars. As the Wilson administration discovered, however, declaring war and making war were two very different propositions. The former required only an abstract statement of ideals and justifications and a two-thirds Congressional majority; the latter required the massive mobilization of virtually every sector of American society - military, industrial, and economic, as well as public opinion.
USA's Involvement in The First World War There were two main events that led to the USA entering the First World War. They are: · The German decision to wage war on any form of shipping near Britain and the mistake of attacking American vessels with American civilians on board. · The 'Zimmermann Telegram'. The Germans declared the sea around Britain a 'War Zone' and made the excuse that anything within this zone was fair game and they had the right to attack and destroy it. This included merchant ships shipping urgent supplies to Britain and also normal liners shipping people to and from Britain.
World War 1 was a war that lasted from 1914 to 1918 and was a war that involved and was molded around alliances. This war in Europe would eventually turn into a global war that would involve 32 countries. United States involvement was crucial to the outcome of World War 1 and made a serious impact in our country. Both positive and negative effects were felt by Americans during and even long after the war. Mixed feelings were felt from many Americans for entering the war that would affect society.
This would cause the U.S. to get involved in the war because they were unfairly attacked. Germany is adding insult to injury by bashing them basically, saying that they could not dodge war. “To say the German submarine attack on a United States ship was the main reason for the United States involvement in the war would be ridiculous” (9). This was their belief, they had the right to attack America and that they would love to fight.
World War I, a military conflict, began as a local European war between Austria-Hungary and Serbia in 1914. It was transformed into a general European struggle by declaration of war against Russia, and eventually became a global war involving 32 nations. Twenty- eight of these nations, known as the Allies and the Associated Powers, and including Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the United States, opposed the coalition known as the Central Powers, consisting of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey, and Bulgaria. World War I, was not only a dispute among nations, but also affected thousands of people from all over the world, including African Americans, women, and even business and economic changes. African Americans endured a great amount of racism during the war, especially from the military.

In conclusion, when World War I began in 1914, the United States declared neutrality; however, in 1917 they broke neutrality and declared war. The question for many is, why did the US wait so long and what eventually made the US get involved in this global conflict? The reasons for the United State’s neutrality were George Washington’s Farewell Address, the Monroe Doctrine and the strong belief of pacifism on the war around the United States. After the events of the unrestricted submarine warfare, and the Zimmerman telegram, the United States broke its neutrality. In 1917 Woodrow Wilson said “The world must be safe for democracy.” This quote meant that in order to maintain democracy around the world, all threats to democracy must be ceased. During World War I Germany was a threat to democracy so the United States broke its neutrality and stopped it.
War is complicated and messy, this is especially true for WW1. WW1 seems to have been forgotten, not as talked about compared to the sequel, and this is for a reason. in WW2 intentions are clear, countries have clear motives, there is a clear good and bad, and the historical relevance is obvious. In WW1 why the countries even joined the war is a heavily disputed question. The most common reason cited as to why we joined the war is the sinking of the lusitania, in my opinion the answer is more complicated like the war if self. There were many plausible causes for america joining the war the lusitania and sussex, unrestricted submarine warfare, american companies supporting the allies worried that they wouldn’t win, the fact that britain had the same language and similar culture to the united states, and the zimmerman message. However in my opinion the reason america joined WW1 was because the american financial support of the allies.
The United States of America was proclaimed to be neutral at the beginning of the World Wars until acts of war were undertaken towards the United States. Eighteen and older men were automatically drafted into the US Military, Airforce, and Navy. The contributions from the civilians in the United States homefront helped the US economy continue to prosper during the World Wars and provide to the country’s ability to contribute the efforts of the military to defeat the Triple Alliance and the Axis Powers.
The World War II era was important because it transformed American culture. While the men were fighting overseas, the women were working in factories and offices. Before the war, many women were housewives and were discouraged from getting a job. Families were separated, and many of the babies born during the war never knew their fathers. Meat, butter, milk, and cigarettes could only be purchased with coupons issued by the government, and many were responsible for growing their own vegetables. No cars were made during the war because factories devoted all their resources to making parts for tanks, planes and ships. As the demand for labor increased, many Americans had to leave their homes and move to the coastal areas where the defense plants
The period following World War One was a very exciting time in American history. It was a time to finally let loose, have fun, celebrate, and enjoy all the wonderful things and “modern conveniences” that had become accessible to a wider variety of people. Since there were so many changes in life style, women’s rights, movies, automobiles, radio and fashion, America was transformed after World War One.
World War I was a war that involved most of the major powers. The Great War
Wake up, cook, feed children, clean, cook, sleep. That was a typical day for women while their husbands were at work making money for the family. All of that changed once WWI started and the men went to fight, women had to work while the men were in the war. Large numbers of women were recruited into jobs vacated by men who had gone to fight in the war. The high demand for weapons resulted in the munitions factories becoming the largest single employer of women during WWI. Even though there were negative impacts on America due to the fact that lots of people died but it was mostly positive impacts on America. Women in WWI positively impacted America because of them working in the factories, making changes in society, and gaining suffrage.
For World War I, there were two most important consequences. One most significant consequence was that the war reduced the power of the imperialism. For instance, the Russian tsarist regime was toppled. From very early of World War I, the German government adopted one strategy that using exiled Russian revolutionaries influenced the Russian and destroyed the Russian war effort against Germany. And those Russian Bolshevik revolutionaries launched revolutions, and the February revolution finally destroyed the Russian tsarist regime. Germany was another example of the reduction of the power of imperialism. After the war, the German Empire was destroyed, and Germany became a republic in the joint hands of the theoretically Marxist Social Democratic
... the economy saw noteworthy improvements for many years to come. Through the production of goods, loans, the stock market boom, and exports, the United States ' economy peaked during and after World War One. The growth was short lived as it was built upon the same conditions that brought about the Great Depression.
