Political Compromise in America

In America’s past we struggled with polarization in government from before it was even officially born. We note hours upon hours of deliberation that nearly tore the fledgling America apart before it even began over the single issue of representation. While today we are greatly thankful for what the framers produced, wouldn’t it have been much more efficient had the framers simply compromised from the beginning? If we as Americans emphasize compromise and bipartisanship in our own political voting agenda, we would find ourselves with a far more productive and efficient government.

There is no need to get ourselves all wrapped up in Greek arête, and philosophize about government to discuss government's role. It's quite simple: those who want government funded programs are in favor of our current government today, while those who do not are opposed. Today in America there is constant issue of no one willing to compromise. We saw this outlined in the film “A More Perfect Union.”

There is so much evidence of this issue of polarization and the lack of compromise today even. "We the people" want safe water, we want safe food, we want safe drugs, and the list goes on and on without excessive spending. The lack of corporate accountability, someone other than the cat must guard the birdcage. And those who experience hardships are strongly in support of some sort of government assistance. I'd bet that those along the south coast were supports of a smaller government, previous to the BP oil spill that is.

It is human nature: We want it both ways. Cut their programs, not mine. I'll vote for my representatives as long as he or she comes with the promise of green back home. Think of our country as a society made up stupid peopl...

..."religious right," and splitting the "in the middle" crowd, I realized America is truly a "house divided." It is split fairly evenly down the economic middle into two competing, monolithic voting blocs.”

The issue boils down to bipartisianship. In America is has always been a big issue. We have two competing extremes with voices to be heard. While at the time we think of the “Great Compromise,” as either a defeat or success. When in reality prefection came from the coming together and compromise between the parties. From this compromise we gained a great piece of ingenuity than we could have ever concieved on our own. If we do not focus our interests on our principles that bring us Americans together , it will likely be very difficult to move America forward, to individual opportunity, to success, to prosperity, to security, to liberty, and to American Dream.
