Recommended: Theatre as a form of entertainment

Have you ever wondered what the point of playing theater games is? Before I took theater class, I thought they were just played to have fun. However, that is completely wrong. Theater games, as much fun as they are, have an absolute purpose. They help to develop skills in such areas of teamwork, focus, and observation. Theater games are a great alternative way of learning. I don’t know about you, but I would much rather be up on my hands and feet having a great time learning, rather than sitting at a desk taking notes off of the board, being bored out of my mind.

In theater class, we learn the teamwork skill. Some games that we play that help us to gain teamwork ability are Human Machine, Build a Story, Two Character Improvs, Group Inner Conflict Improvs, and tons more. These games help you develop teamwork skills because in each game/exercise you must work well in a group or with a partner to accomplish the activity.     After reading Herman Hesse’s “Steppenwolf,” one probably notices the main character in this novel, Harry Haller, is in a constant internal battle, where there is a “continual and deadly enmity” (41-42) between two natures, one where he claims to possess and the other to be divided by “a human and a wolfish one” (41). Although one can gain many insights from reading Steppenwolf, I believe Haller seeks to conform to the bourgeois in every aspect of his life.
