The major goal in life that will add great health and longevity to one’s life is to have a healthy diet along with the proper amount of physical activity added to it. This is something that I have learned a lot about in this class. Now I am trying to balance my own individual needs with plenty of physical activity which allows me to develop a plan that helps me to maintain a healthy weight and prevents disease from appearing and with an active schedule with school, work, and teenage daughters it could be pretty changing to follow a healthy diet plan; however the true rewards of it is to be healthy, happy, with plenty of energy. One problem I may come across would be due to my under nutrition of anemia. With this deficiency I need to make sure that I am eating foods that have plenty of iron in them. If my iron deficiency is not properly managed it will lead to further health risk.
Anemia deficiency can cause several discomforts such as, feeling fatigue, dizziness, and very little energy. These are the first few symptoms of anemia. Most of my life I have been suffering with anemia. As a teenager I was told that there are many different reasons for this particular illness. Iron-deficiency anemia is usually caused by a lack of iron intake. Still to this very day my body is not receiving the proper amount of iron from the foods that I am eating, and my body does not develop red blood cells which are needed for carrying the oxygen that is attached to the iron hemoglobin (Kaslow,2006). This is what causes me to experience dizziness and I become tired fast. My...

This personalized nutrition and exercise plan that I have put together will guide me day by day to a healthier me.
In conclusion, in order to achieve a desirable nutrition and to be healthy, I will have to consume more of the foods previously mentioned on each category/group or by adding to my diet a nutritional supplement. The intake of calories is also important, so by adding more fruits and vegetables to my diet, I am confident, I will reach the desired weight and a healthier life.
Inadequate iron stores in the blood cause iron deficiency anemia. Iron is needed for the production of hemoglobin needed for red blood cells. Hemoglobin is important in the transport of oxygen to the body tissues. In the United States, 10-30% of the entire population suffers from iron deficiency anemia. Women are more likely to be anemic because of poor eating habits and blood loss during menstruation. Thus, many women enter pregnancy with reduced iron stores or some level of anemia. According to multiple studies on anemia and pregnancy o...
Throughout the Diet Analysis Project, I was able to analyze and inspect my diet to examine what I was eating, what types of nutrients I was getting and how much exercise I was participating in over a week’s period. Through this period, five of the days were back to back and the last two was a weekend day. I then compared all aspects with my recommended levels of nutrients for my dietary recommended intake and the calories burned through exercise versus my calories consumed through what I was eating. I needed to ensure the nutrients I was getting would allow a good fit for staying healthy and reaching, but not overextending, my needed nutrient levels. I found some very interesting facts that pertained to my diet that were good and then some
There are many causes of anemia in the body. Some factors include genetics and deficiencies in the diet. Ms. A claims that for the past 10 – 12 years menorrhagia and dysmenorrheal have been a problem for her. Menorrhagia is abnormal and heavy menstrual bleeding during menstruation (Mayoclinic, 2013). Menorrhagia can deplete iron levels in the blood and increase the risk of an individual to have iron deficiency anemia. This is the cause of Ms. A’s anemia. Moreover, Ms. A says that she constantly takes aspirin especially in the summer to prevent stiffness in the joints. Aspirin affects and hinders the production of red blood cells (Mayoclinic, 2013). From the description of anemia given above, the lack of red blood cells, leads to low levels of iron and therefore low levels of hemoglobin which in turn affects the transportation of oxygen and thereby causing shortness of breath. Ms. A’s initial complains of shortness of breath and fatigue is the reason why she went to see the physician.

Iron is a mineral that is found the in hemoglobin of the Red Blood Cells. It facilitates in the transport of oxygen all over the body. Without this mineral, oxygen cannot be carried to its full capacity. 1 out of 10 women and small children have iron deficiencies. Lacking iron causes lethargy and a weakened immune system. Children who do not have an adequate intake of iron put themselves at risk for intellectual developmental problems. However, an iron deficient person is not necessarily anemic. 7.8 million women are iron deficient, while only 3.3 million women are anemic (http://www.mayohealth.org/mayo/9704/iron_def.htm). When the deficiency becomes so severe that the circulating Red Blood Count and the minerals Ht, Hg, and Hem drop below normal, anemia occurs (See Figure 1). The hormone androgen causes men and women to have different normal values of the hemogram (http://www.medstudents.com.br/hemat/hemat4.htm). Low ferritin (iron storage molecule) and high TIBC (tota...
For this paper I decided to take a second and evaluate my life and think about what were some of my current lifestyle habits and behaviors and which out of these habits would I like to change. After sitting down and evaluating all of my main habits I categorized them into groups of which ones were helping to lead me to a long healthy lifestyle and which ones were likely to lead me to an unhealthy life and lifestyle. After narrowing these unhealthy habits down to my top three I decided to focus this paper and my attention on my current nutrition and most of all on my negative eating habits. After evaluating my lifestyle and all of my unhealthy habits I felt that my current nutrition level and eating patterns were in need of the most improvement and change.
Based on a variety of personal experiences, I became very interested in the role of foods and nutrition. During my last year of highschool, my favorite who had a successful business succumbed to a strange alliment. He was tired all the time and was diagnosed to live only 1 year. While he didn't have cancer, his bloodwork had many abnormalites the doctors couldn't diagnose. He began to seek out other doctors who ultimately recommended that his see a dietitian. This changed his life. He started to eat low fat foods thats packed in vitamins, quit smoking and drinking and started to exercise regular bases. One year later, he could get out of bed, live as an full energetic person as he had before. This made him inspired to study nutrition in America. I was overwhelmed after I knew his history and never looked at food the same way again. It is clear to me now that how people eat and what people eat is an important factor in acheving optimum health, that just exercise isn't enough.
This assignment will include dietary goals required to maintaining health, how exercise is beneficial to maintain physical fitness and, an understanding of the factors influencing changing patterns of health and disease in a community.
There are many areas in which I need improvements regarding my food choices. To improve my food choices and calories intake I should increase my servings in grain products and fruits and vegetables. I think I also need to increase the intake of milk for required amount of vitamin D. Among meat and alternatives I should eat some servings for required amount of proteins and minerals. Lastly, I also need to increase the consumption of water per day for a better body circulation and digestion.
There is no aspect of your life that is not influenced by what types of foods you eat. When you choose to eat healthy foods, especially vegetables, there are a number of positive outcomes one will come across. Vegetables have lots of vitamins and minerals that the body needs for optimal performance, including a high concentration of antioxidants, fibre, and other essential proteins that the body needs in order to carry out its daily bodily functions. Fruits and Vegetables are some of the best sources of vitamins, minerals, and disease-fighting foods out there (Mahima et al,. 2013), so when one totally disregards vegetables you are not only going to be less healthy but there are many negative side effects one might take on. Lack of energy, weight gain, possible disease, and depressed mood are only a few negative side effects of not eating vegetables and healthy foods. Your body will lack the essential vitamins and minerals it needs in order to carry out its internal and external functions, thus leading to one feeling chronically fatigued and to a point where a nap is needed. Furthermore, the sugars and fats in highly processed foods will lead one on the path of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and feeling chronically fatigued. In the present paper, it will discuss how eating healthier foods will increase ones physical performance, both in the gym and in extracurricular activities such as sports. Food powers your life. It is hypothesized that eating healthier foods will not only increase your mood, bodily functions and physical performance but also make you feel, look and be healthier. The following literature review will attempt to demonstrate and support the fact that when one has a healthier diet, it does not only lead to...
Nutrition is an important key to learn and understand in your life while you get older. Many people do not know the proper diet and exercise to keep their body healthy and strong. Throughout this course, I have learned information on different kinds of vitamins, carbohydrates, amino acids and other helpful diets. After reading and logging my dietary log for a week it has helped me re-organize my diet and health. I have learned about how to personally manage my exercise and diet and I am seeing some good results because of what I learned from this class. I started to see what I was missing in my diet and started to know what quantity and quality was for your diet. I also took a leap into my family health history to see what I need to change
Any individual that leads a healthy lifestyle will say that healthy living is more than just a fad or goal, it’s a way of life. Changing certain aspects of one’s current lifestyle to become healthier is not the final goal, rather, the objective of setting these short and long term goals is maintenance. Therefore, I choose to change an aspect of my current lifestyle that I felt would facilitate the improvement of my health and would later become a change that I can maintain over the course of my life; I choose to increase the amount of water I drink per day to improve my inner bodily health. I decided on this change because I feel that setting a smaller goal that I could easily monitor and execute will expedite future changes to my lifestyle,
