Probably, most people start their personal statement with “ever since I was little…”, but that’s not the case for me. My story is a little different; I always wanted to be an architect or an engineer, studying anything business-related simply never even crossed my mind, until recently, when a great-uncle of mine recommended I read The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham. After reading it, I was fascinated. I dove deeper into business and finance, and found it amazing. The relationship between nature, mathematics and business astonishes me. Things like how Fibonacci described a way to identify reversals, centuries before stocks were invented, mystifies me.
Since then, I’ve read many other books, subscribed to podcasts, joined student groups, started a small business and even started studying a finance major at my local university. Even considering the lack of free time that I’ve had since I got into business and finance, I haven’t had a doubt in my mind about what I want to study and do in my life.
The reason I plan to leave my current university to study in London, is because...
My dedication to practice dentistry has catapulted me between countries and ultimately across the world. Throughout my journey, my passion has increased with every step. After I finished high school, my parents wanted me to pursue their dream of becoming a physician and specializes in either Radiology or Gynecology to take their position in their private practice. What my parents didn't realize was that I chose my future career earlier when I met Dr. Marvin, my endodontist. My decision to become a dentist was motivated by personal experience where I had suffered from a major oral health problem where I had an accident that caused my permanent front teeth to fracture. I was in pain for days and I was shy to show my broken front teeth.
Throughout my life, I have heard that having a degree is having an expensive piece of paper. Actually listening to these words, to me, its saying they have the literary knowledge of a specific field; and that is much more than an expensive piece of paper. My motivation comes from every situation I have been through, struggling to realize that I do want a degree. As of now, my job title is an accounting clerk, I did happen to stumble into this career, I would be lying if I said otherwise. Being in this position for almost three years has helped me grow professionally and personally. I did not have any background in the accounting department, so every day I learn something new, because every day I am intrigued on how the accounting system works.
According to my Career Leader report, I have been career matched to be in Financial Planning and Stock Brokerage. I think that this career match speaks highly of me because one of my career options is to hopefully become a Financial Advisor. Ever since I took a consumer education course in high school, I have become interested in personal finance. I loved everything that had to do with budgeting money, retirement accounts, stocks, etc. I learned so much in this class that I never knew I can about personal finance. It was something that got me interested and I knew that I want to be around people as a career. I think that a Financial Advisor will suit me because I want to help people with their financial needs. I want to be a mentor or advocate in helping them choose a house, create a college fund, and save for retirement. I want to be with them every step of the way, so they know that they are not alone.
Dedication, duty, and determination are the main attributes I live my life by. At the age of 17 I joined the Army as an Chemical Operations and Biological Specialist, and spent my summer before senior year at basic training. I was in an advanced literature class in my senior year, so in any free time during training, I read my assigned reading so I would not be behind once school started. For those two reasons and my selfless service to the Special Needs students in school, I received special recognized by the Dean of Students at the end of my senior year.
My true passions lie in a pharmaceutical profession and are derived from my desire to be involved in the improvement of others’ heath, to fulfill my interest in medicine, and to possess the means to explore my greatest potential in a meaningful career. I am looking forward to embark upon my life-long learning career in Pharmacy as I continue to engage in experiences both professionally and academically to benefit me in the future years.
I am currently majoring in Finance at Carlson School of Management, and I have decided to explore the career and future growth of a financial analyst. I chose to explore this career because some of my cousins work in this field and I’m interested in numbers and analysis. I also have an interest in following the stock market and working in a stimulating environment. What sets me apart from others is that I’m able to use time management efficiently. I’m able to study and complete major assignments while still finding plenty of time to socialize with others. Having taken StrengthsQuest last year, I learned that I strive for the future, I’m often positive, and I’m a believer in harmony. I believe in consistency, the idea that all people should
After taking the StrenghtsQuest and the Holland Interest Inventory I have realized a lot of points that I’ve never realized before. I have realized there are certain things that I did know about but I just never justified the interest in knowing about it. After much consideration I’m honestly not sure if my career that I’m looking into is really what is going to fit my profile. I’m going to tell you my top three scores from the Holland Interest Inventory and the top five StrengthsQuest.
I plan to pursue a career in human resource management which UCSD does not offer a major or program that is specific to such a career path. Yonsei University’s business administration major, will help me greatly in pursuing my goals. Under their program, I will be able to expand my knowledge on organizational behavior. Additionally, being a psychology major, I am interested in how people from other cultures think, and studying abroad will allow me to catch a glimpse of a perspective I’m not exposed to in the U.S.
“You should do pharmacy, you will have no future in business!” my mom said bluntly. Hearing those words felt disheartening, but something I have prove to my parents. Like many Asian parents, they want their child to pursue a career that will make their child financially stable, leading many to become doctors, lawyers, engineers, or any appreciated career from their Asian parents. Although, business may not earn as much money as the top professions, I have been interested in business, since it involves real-world concepts that can be practical for everyday life and the wide array of fields within the business world. Pursuing a career in business is something I aspire to achieve and want to prove my parents that I am capable of having a future
Every day, many people question my passion for pursuing accounting as a profession and the first answer I think of is that I am good with numbers. However, advancing in the field has made me realize that my passion is not only based on figures. Growing up as a kid, I was privileged to have a piggy account where I would save as little as fifty cents per week. Since my parents rewarded me in monetary value as a positive reinforcement in cases of good behaviour, I was motivated to maintain good manners so long as my savings increased. As time went by, I realized I had saved way “too much” money for a little child. The challenge came in the management of the funds because I was focused on spending more on pleasurable activities. However, the guidance of my parents enabled me to prioritize on the more important things and save more. I took interest in managing may own account as a child and even pursued accounting courses in high school. The interest grew deeper because I gained more insight on the facts about accounting and the career. Also, I believed that it is career that one would be self-employed thereby avoiding the dilemmas of lacking jobs after graduating. For instance, one would easily start their own business and manage their finances comfortably.
Perfection is not within the realms of possibility, but I always knew if I aim for perfection, I could at least achieve excellence. This is the mantra I have followed in every walk of life. I have always learnt to appreciate everything I have taken up, thoroughly and to the fullest. In this competitive pace of life, I have learnt a lot from my experiences and I am still striving to learn more. I constantly challenged myself in an effort to develop a rational mindset and approach to problem solving.
Learning something new can be a scary experience. One of the hardest situation I 've ever do was learn how to not do what was expected of me. I was always afraid to go against the tide, but I decided that was an valuable skill that I should learn. I also thought It would be favorable and benefit me to become a stronger person. What I didn 't realize was that learning not to do what was expected of me would also cause me a extra confident person.
I like options, I like security, and I like power. With these wants, I knew at a very early age that I would enter business and thus I attended a college that specializes in the subject. In my first position out of school, I was hired by Dunhill Equities as a cold-caller. After several weeks of being hung up on by angry prospects, I decided that this career path would not lead me to success. I then moved within the firm to a position as sales assistant. While this was by no means my dream job, I learned a tremendous amount about business, and I gained useful exposure to the world of finance. Unfortunately, the company hit a period of instability, and after ten months I transferred with my boss to Coleman & Company. Thirteen months later, that company also began to fail, and I began to search for another path to advancement. With two strikes against me, I hit a home run and was hired by Sanford Bernstein into a challenging job with limitless opportunity for growth.
Often times, I can’t help but wonder what my life would be like if I haven’t been exposed to the world of business; a wonderful career that changed my life completely. I have taken interest in business career because I love calculating numbers and interacting with people; But most importantly, my fascination in business came from my grandfather. He taught me many valuable tips on how to be a successful person, and most certainly how to run a business. He was not only a successful businessman, but also a respected individual. One of the businesses that he owned was a company called “Wu Long Tea Factory”. The main thing that they produce is tea of course, but they also have products such as cakes, candies, and all kinds of stuff. By being the production manager’s assistant of this company, I was able to experience everything that was going on in the factory. Even though that was the background I grew up in, my biggest fascination wasn’t in being a manager in a factory; it was the finance part that got me all excited. Often times I can even see myself sitting in my office and work on clients’ financial profiles and statements. I also took extra math classes and participated in many of the competitions in order to prepare myself to succeed in this particular field. Other things that I also did to get me well prepared are joining school activities, applying internships, and having jobs. I believe that all my hard work will pay off, when I see myself as a successful businessman.
My career that I have chosen is a bank manager at a First National Bank branch in Durban North. A bank manager is involved in the daily running’s of the bank. They are in charge of all operations inside the bank. They ensure that the branch that they are running is up to standard. The work I will be doing is, I will be involved in corporate meetings with the board, to help make financial solutions. I will be interacting with clients throughout the day who have problems with their accounts. I think this outfit would be perfect for being a bank manager because it is professional and neat. The heels used are closed which shows elegance and are formal, this will be easy to walk in and are block heels which will give support and will be comfortable to wear for the whole day. The skirt is a pencil
