Writing, just like anything else in life, is something that can never be perfected by any man whether it is Stephen King, Stan Lee, or a regular college student. The subject of writing cannot be perfect because it is an art that in some cases the final work can be seen as beautiful to one person and horrific to the next guy. Authors always have to proofread, send their work to an editor, and rewrite their material and even than the book is not always one hundred percent correct. As a college student my writing is not up to par with the authors like Stephen king but we are similar in some ways because my writing is imperfect as well. There are many areas of the writing field that I have to work on, although I will mainly focus on three main points that need to be developed more than others, such as: Paragraph development, proofreading, and creating better introductions.
First, the main thing in my writing that needs enhancement is paragraph development. Throughout my first semester in college I was given a series of essay to complete for my English composition class and time after time Professor Antenor suggested that I develop my ideas to a greater extent. Although, I kept receiving this note on the essay I handed in each time there was improvement from the last paper I handed in. An example would be on my last essay that we handed in, in some cases it was stated that the paragraph contained great content and was detailed, but then later on in the same essay another paragraph would have a note suggesting that I work on elaborating more on certain subtopics. The paragraph development is the main issue with my writing because if the idea is not fully developed than the reader may be misinformed. Writing needs to be as detailed as ...

To conclude, writing is an art form that takes years to master and it is impossible to perfect the art. Every writer, even Stephen king, has to proofread his work and have an editor look at it to make sure there are no mistakes, but even then not every person who reads the book will enjoy it. My writing need improvement in many areas but specifically in the areas of paragraph development, proofreading, and the creation if better introductory paragraphs. The way I can improve on all of these subjects is to go to the writing center where professors will help me for free. This is the best option to receive help because I will receive professional criticism that can improve my writing skills. Finally I think it is important that my writing is as close to perfect as possible because it will be an asset to me for my entire life.
This assignment is a testament of growth and contributed to my outlook on strategies towards improving my writing through the importance of understanding how crucial, each component of the writing process is and how in depth you should take each process. Lastly, this reflection advocated how editing is the principal task of every good writer. “To write is human, to edit is divine,” Stephen
“On Writing – A Memoir of the Craft” is not written in the traditional textbook format. The structure of this book works as an educational tool is because it offers a personal look at how writing has affected one successful novelist's life. Each section of the book contains something important about the craft of writing. The book also includes a great deal of about the personal impact writing has had on Stephen King's life.
...lized that there were many mistakes that I needed to fix in order to perfect my writing. I need to consider more about focusing on the topic and organizing for my writing, because it appeals to the audience more clear to the point. Also, I feel that I am much better to convince my audience through my writings.
I never really considered myself an "acceptable" writer. I always would panic after realizing I have to write a paper because I never feel prepared or ready. After my semester of English 1102, I realized that I can spot good points for my argument, but I had difficulty analyzing them in terms of my thesis. My thesis and topic sentences were not my strong suits because I either don't dig deep enough, or I panic and add so much to my thesis/topic sentence that the syntax and diction is awkward and confusing. I would spend hours trying to fix these errors because of writer's block and anxiety; however, as the semester kept going, I found it to be easier to fix the errors in my paragraph by asking myself how to improve my paper and asking my peers
When it came to the process of writing my first, second, and third essay’s, there was clear visual improvement that I have become a better writer in certain aspects. As for essay one, I tended to rely on my writing skills as a high school student rather than use the components of a successful college student essay. This was definite once I received the feedback given by ...
I did not have a firm writing philosophy before this semester, but I to some degree I understood the importance writing can have on a situation. Now I understand that writing has two outcomes: gaining support or losing support. When writing an essay it is best if the writing is as specific as possible. This way the audience is hopefully not left with a confused opinion about the topic. Since the beginning of the semester I have put a conscious effort to change my writing style. Instead of the box format that is learned in high school I try to use a more graceful approach while still being organized. Also, I evaluate the credibility of a source before I use the information to support my thesis and understand the roles of using ethos, pathos, and logos. My assignments are now written with more developed thought by elaborating on ideas in the body paragraphs. By participating in the assignments throughout the semester I have accomplished, to different extents, the objectives for the English Composition 101 course. My writing has improved in multiple areas such as knowing who my audience is, and how writing drafts and making revisions help me evaluate the effectiveness of my essay. I am also aware that academic writing differs from day-to-day writing because for academic writing I need to present the most credible evidence in an organized format. Furthermore, I now can effectively evaluate my writing to know where I can improve.
Over the years of my schooling, I have gradually developed my writing preparation to help me become a better writer. I continue to find ways to improve my writing abilities by working on my weaknesses and by incorporating the feedback I receive from my peers and my instructors into my essays. At times, I still struggle when preparing to start my essay, but with precise and organized planning and obtaining the help of others, I am certain that I will become more proficient in my writing
Initially, my writing was plagued by a series of fundamental issues that compromised my ability to effectively organize ideas and emphasize the primary purpose of a piece of writing. These issues included extensive grammar errors, primarily comma splices, as well as excessive use of language that distorted from the message or explanation I was aiming to convey. I would have described my early writing to be as dull as dishwater. My writing was convoluted, lacking adequate structure and sophisticated word choice.
I have always known that writing was not my strong point. Entering writing 101 in September I was very much afraid. I knew that the expectations would be very high for this course; thus it would be more difficult than any other writing class I had previously taken. At first writing was a nightmare for me, but thanks to the assistance from professor Smart and my tutors, I have improved drastically in my writing skills and, as a result I am now a better writer. During the course of four months, I have learned so much. There were a few bumps in the way throughout the semester, but I managed to overcome them. It is hard to believe that my journey in writing 101 is coming to an end. Through my hard work and dedication, this class has helped me to build confidence in my writing that will help me throughout my college life.
My journey through high school as a writer has been quite fruitful. I have refined many of weaknesses, including organizations and introductions, and am still perfectly some as I go, like time management and conclusions. I learned that there is no such thing as a perfect paper; there is always room for improvement in my writing skills. Also, I have learned to see my writing through different perspectives and portray abstract concepts in my work. In the years to come, I hope to learn even more from my instructors and develop a unique writing
I improved on many aspects of my writing throughout the duration of this class, but there are still some things I need to refine. Over the course my writing skills have gotten better due to the instructor’s feedback, peer reviews, and just me learning. I enjoyed peer reviews because sometimes it is easier to relate to someone my own age. The overall structure and flow of my essays have improved, as well as the use of word choice and quotations. Throughout this course, I was able to apply critical thinking and reading skills to different texts, compose essays with appropriate content development and organization, use correct style by practicing the steps of the writing process, and reflect on my own development as a writer. However, I still need to work on demonstrating correctness, including punctuation, mechanics, and
I selected paragraph writing for this writing selection because I would like to reflect on my areas of weakness and how I improved as a writer. To be honest, I prefer writing a paragraph because it’s short compared to writing an essay. However, I struggle to write a paragraph. When given a topic and asked to write a paragraph long, I have a lot to say but couldn’t summarize the whole topic. That is, I get too wordy when it comes to details, which in fact, I find it hard to get straight to the point. Indeed, I’m a very detailed person, but this writing piece challenged me how to improve my summarization. As a writer, writing is always been a challenge no what matter what type of writing piece it could be. I started writing when I was very young
Stephen give lots of advice that are merely the same in other writing books, which takes away the soul purpose of buying this book. Through my perspectives, the only difference between this book and other writing books was that Stephen gave his personal insights from his years of experienced writing onto each advice he gave. Although much of his key points were copy and paste, his view improved my understands of the fundamentals. He takes his time in this section to talk about his pet peeves of the craft, the importance of grammar, simplicity of vocabulary, active and passive verbs, explains why a writer should never use adverbs, and provides examples of good and bad writing. The Element of Style was also in-depth discussion and he gives useful examples such as observing details of a book format can give you a perspective of whether the book will be challenging or not. An easy book would have short paragraphs with lots of white a pages. A hard book would have a packed look, with long stacked paragraphs. Many other advice's were given, but what I took out of this section that will stick with me whenever I write was King’s advice to write for the right reasons. This has a huge meaning to me because I believe writing should be done out of love and joy, not for fame or for the money. If you’re not inspired to write for the right reasons, writing will be difficult to pursue as a
I was never a person that liked to write essays. This semester I really enjoyed writing those essays and specially because I was learning new things while writing them. Some things I could do to improve my essay writing are not to wait till the last three or four days before I turn my essay in to start doing it. Another thing I will do is if I forget how to do something or about some rule in the common errors I made I will just go back to all the lessons I printed out to have as reference. I think those will help me allot. And one last thing I will do to improve my writing is to try my best not to confuse all those words I got confused. I will do my best to learn each word and its rule of where it goes so I won’t have the same mistakes I had this semester.
Before taking English 1A, I was a discouraged writer because as an English learner, I did not believe that I had any ability to be an acceptable writer. Therefore, I did not have any joy while I was doing writing assignments. However, I have gradually loved writing through this semester. I fortunately got plenty of helps from my classmates and professor; thus, my writing skills have gotten improved a lot. I currently can feel that writing is a quite enjoyable process, and I like delivering my ideas to other people by writing, too. I am really proud that I have enhanced my pre-writing skills, writing structure and revising skills and have learned how to write an effective thesis statement and how to deal with rhetorical analysis. However, I still have lots of deficiencies in my articles, such as grammar problem and the lack of logical transition.
