Eating disorders are a mental illness that can affect anyone at any age. Eating disorders cause serious disturbances in a person’s everyday diet. It’s eating extremely small amounts of food or severely overeating. It’s an obsession and food seems to take over your life. An eating disorder can start as just eating too little or too much and it becomes almost like an addiction. In addition to abnormal eating are concerns about body weight or shape. An eating disorder usually begins during teen years but can start earlier or later in laugh. There are many different types of eating disorders. The most heard of one is anorexia nervosa but the two other ones are orthorexia nervosa and binge eating. Anorexia is starving yourself or the fear of becoming fat. Some signs that a person might be anorexic are the person becomes very thin or loses an insane amount of weight very quickly. The person might become obsessed with eating, food, and weight control which may make them with draw from social activities that involve food. The person only eats certain foods and exercises excessively which may cause them to “water load” when they go to the doctors or any other place where they may be weighed. Starving yourself can hurt you emotionally and physically. Starvation can damage vital organs such as the heart and brain. Women can get amenorrhea where their menstrual cycle stops. Men can get impotence which causes them to become impotent. Thyroid functions slow and your hair and nails become brittle.
