My family and I recently visited the State Fair of Texas. It is the biggest
Fair in Texas that comes to Dallas every fall. I haven’t been since I was very
young. The State Fair has so much to do and see. And one of the biggest
attractions is the food that they offer. It is especially known for the famous
fletcher corndogs!
The first thing we did was found big Tex. Big Tex is a great known
history of the state fair. He wears a size 70 boots and wears a 75 gallon
hat. He is 52’ tall. The boys where thrilled to see him in person! Although my
three year old was rather afraid of him.
We also got to see the auto show. It was very interesting to learn about
different vehicles and to see some of the future vehicles they are coming out
with. We looked in the sport cars and some of the big trucks they had on
display. They had lots of games to do and free prizes as well.
We watched the backyard circus which was really fun for the kids. The
backyard circus required that the kids and audience use their imagination. They
chose many different kids to act in the circus. Then we headed off the the
BMX stunt show. A bike race. We really enjoyed seeing the neat tricks and
stunts.
They say laughter is good for the soul, and fun is always good when well spent with family and friends. Imagine going around in a dizzy circle, laughing and crying at the same time because you’re dropped from over 20 feet in the air, because truth be told, what’s a fair without rides? While pigging out on fair foods and winning small prizes are fun, the fair has so much more to offer and here are a few attractions you don’t want to miss.
In 1893 a world fair was held in Chicago Illinois to celebrate the 4thcentenniel of Columbus discovering the Americas. The exposition displayed grand buildings with beautiful architecture, hundreds of exhibits ranging from exotic tribes of Africa, to new inventions, expertly constructed landscape, and astounding attractions such as the first Ferris wheel. The fair lasted for six months and had over 27 million visitors, including ¼ of the American population.

The “White City” was a vast collection of architecture and arts that were put on display in the year 1893. The Chicago World Fair, also called the “White City”, was a major event in American history that impacted America’s culture, economic, and industry. The Chicago World Fair was held to honor Columbus’ discovery of the New World. The real reason why it was made was to proudly have back their wealth and power. Larson said, “the tower not only assured the eternal fame of its designer, Alexandre Gustave Eiffel but also offered graphic proof that France had edged out the United States for dominance in the realm of iron and steel…”(15).
