In the United State, we live in a country in which we have the right to choose and the freedom to have a choice. We the people have fought for our freedom and rights. Yes having policy will keep us in order but when it acts upon their freedom that's when they cross the line. In some countries every young person must serve two years of military service. The United State is planning on doing the same for us. Us, the people, wouldn't want that. Our parents wouldn't want that and the young wouldn't want that. Imagine if you were forced to serve the military for two years. Elbert Hubbard once said responsibility is the price of freedom. We should not live in a world in which we would have to something that we don't want to do. The Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution on December 15, 1791. According the Bill of Rights we have the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the freedom of religion, the freedom of assembly, the freedom of petition and the freedom to bear arms. And guess what else do we have? We have the right to equal justice. The government shouldn't enforce the law that should apply to every young adults or teenager. We have the right to enjoy many other freedoms. You can work at any job you qualify to. You have the freedom to join a political party, a union, and any other legal groups. Though some people might say this have nothing to do whether we want to do it or not. In my beliefs it is not to impose this on someone who's not even old enough to confirm what they're going to do in the future. This will not only affect our rights but it will affect our time we have spent. Time is valuable and we don't have that much time. It is my belief that we all should live life a we want to live life. It's not necessary to apply this to us. We have to do what's good for the country and we have many options for that. The military is not the choice for everyone. Everyone can achieve what they want. If the person feels comfortable on committing to join the military then will do an outstanding job on doing so. For the reasons above, I believe that the United State should not have this policy. Not only that they will be breaking the law for it but it's for the young adults or teenager. No one should interfere with our freedom and our lives as human beings. We all believe that we should have the choice on doing in what we desire and what we enjoy. While doing our job with a smile on our face will rise and we will become powerful and outstanding.
Forcing any person to do anything will, if not initially, ultimately cause feelings of, for lack of better words, hate. Furthermore, trying to control someone will almost always end in rebellions. If we take our history books, world or American, we see example of this everywhere. According to Thomas Jefferson, all men are created equal with certain unalienable rights. Unalienable rights are rights given to the people by their Creator rather than by government. These rights are inseparable from us and can’t be altered, denied, nullified or taken away by any government, except in extremely rare circumstances in which the government can take action against a particular right as long as it is in favor of the people’s safety. The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America mentions three examples of unalienable rights: “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. Less than one percent of all Americans are enlisted in the military. An even smaller percentage of high school students are enlisted. Students are thought to be incompetent, and not mature enough to decide on enlisting in the military. However, students should be allowed to join the military. The military offers many benefits students can use to help their future. The protection of our country is not overlooked for recruits; they are awarded many personal benefits as well. Tuition assistance, job training, and many benefits that help prepare recruits for occupations while enlisted. Not only are students getting great benefits, but they are also in a small group of professional workers.
Democracy is about choices, and conscription gives us no room to make a choice. Scientists have proven that teenagers haven’t fully develop their mental capacities and brains. If you ever wonder why something you couldn’t fully comprehend in sixth grade, “suddenly” made sense in 10th grade it might be because your brain was and still is developing. You see, there is a region in the brain called the frontal cortex, and it controls reasoning. This area doesn’t develop until later on. This is actually known as one of the reasons as to why teenagers are usually more impulsive than adults. Teenagers tend to act before they think (since the frontal cortex is in charge of this!). Where am I going with this? What effects could the experience of war have in such young undeveloped brains? How can we send these young minds out onto a battlefield when they can’t fully grasp the concept of war and its effects? Most people would agree that having freedom includes the right of liberty, which is having the right to act according to your own will, as long as it doesn’t interrupt someone else’s liberty. Young soldiers need to learn to live the Army values, which are loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. If these values can be instilled in us then we will have everything we need to make an excellent soldier but also a great person. These values also come into play when you are sent downrange because you want to have good fellow soldiers who will always have your back know matter what the situation you find yourself in. The army values also define our character traits as a person and they teach us discipline. The Army Values are a big part of our lives us young soldiers need to learn how to maintain them.
In conclusion, humankind is blessed with life as God created it. The first inception of individual rights began with the founding fathers of the United States, who had a vision in which all citizens would have the right to live in this country without being discriminated based on race, gender, religion, or sexual preference (US Constitution, 2010). These are basic human rights for which many people lost their lives to protect as this country was formed. Nonetheless, today one lives in a society in which one must fight to continue to posses those rights once again.
