Education is the process of receiving knowledge and learning from it. Throughout the Renaissance, many ideas and concepts were created or revived. Before the Renaissance, in the Medieval Times, people were not very educated since the land was corrupted because of the Church. Also, not a lot of people in this time period could afford education for themselves. After that era, people started to put an emphasis on improving themselves by increasing their abilities and knowledge. The changes in thought that occurred during the Renaissance led to an increased population of educated individuals due to the influence of the Church, the rise of the University, and females being educated. Theology was created in the Renaissance and impacted education and the church since it was the study of God. The Bible was being re-translated to rediscover its meaning so people can learn how to conduct their new lives. As the printing press was created, it made it easier for people to get copies of the Bible, the holy book of the Catholic Church, to learn and read. They wanted to be able to read the Bible so people can truly understand the history of the Catholic Church. After reading the Bible, many people began to criticize the Catholic Church and its beliefs and did not really trust what the Catholic Church said. They felt what the church taught was not what was in the Bible and this led to the Reformation. The Reformation was a religious revolution that caused more people to be more educated. The Reformation created a sense of individualism which began a great change in education. Some of this individualism came from Martin Luther who was a monk that dedicated himself to studying the Bible. Families often hired poor students as tutors to educate girls. In the Renaissance a woman’s education depended on their class. During the Renaissance, education was revived through the Church, the Universities and Women. The Church became a huge impact on education because of the study of Theology and Martin Luther. Universities were important to the spread on education because it brought new ideas to the era and furthered people’s knowledge. Women impacted their own education and the education of their husbands. These points proved to an increased population of educated people through the changes in beliefs. Education in the Renaissance was very important for benefitting the ability of humans and their well-being still seen today in society.
