On April 19 1995 the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building had a 7,000 lb. fertilizer bomb detonated in front of it killing 168 people and injuring 680. Ninety minutes later the police found Timothy McVeigh on driving without a license plate and unlawful carrying of a gun. Evidence found then quickly linked McVeigh to the bombing. McVeigh was then executed by lethal injection on June 11 2001. After major federal executions such as Timothy McVeigh, Osama Bin Laden, and the Rosenberg’s there has been an increase in the number of smaller terrorist plots and more executions, leading me to conclude that the death penalty is not a deterrent in cases of terrorism and seditious acts, because it makes them martyrs. Terrorists want to die for their cause and they are succeeding if they die in the attack or if they get put to death.
The Oklahoma City Bombing was retaliation to the federal raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas exactly two years earlier and the Ruby Ridge standoff. McVeigh also hated the government. June 2, 1997 McVeigh was convicted and sentenced to death. M...
