Occupy Wall Street America
Occupy Wall Street was initiated by the Canadians, a Canadian group called Adbusters, and another small member group forming in New York of the United States. The New York group began in a building near Wall Street by a small group of people. Some of these people were from the local area and from Egypt, Spain, and Japan. Some of them had been at the demonstrations in other countries.
The members in New York gave themselves the name, New York City General Assembly (NYCGA). Some of the members brought back ideas which helped form the NYCGA. The members of the NYCGA state that they were guided by a Spanish written guided document, translated in English, titled How to Cook Up a Pacific Revolution. One of the ideas of creating an assembly was to form several small committees to oversee the practical tasks, such as cleaning up their own trash. I think they have fallen far short of living up to these expectations. The amount of trash removed from one demonstration site was over 25 tons. The international group members were not so much concerned about the American economic downfall, than of the economic downfall caused by the so-called governments of many countries of the entire world. Seemingly, some of the protestors and instigators were hoping for a world-wide demonstration. Influenced by Adbusters of Canada, NYCGA set their timeline to begin their protest along-side Adbusters protestors on September 17, 2011.

... to spring or fall cleaning, the police are systematically ridding the overburdened cities of the creeping, crawling and tree-climbing rebellious members of society who are doing more harm than good. Society needs to get back to the basics and find ways to problem-solve with different options that will benefit humanity as a whole.

During the seventies in New Jersey created a program that could change life in society. This program occurred only in twenty-eight cities. Government and public officials were excited about this concept. Police officials were not so much. Foot patrol made officers walk in sleet and snow. The piece goes on to say that “gang members, drug dealers, two-bit criminals, wannabes, etc. are taking a vacation and taking advantage of the police not wanting to be in the area because police are the targets for all these gang members and drug dealers.” The video continues on stating that this is all occurring as arrest numbers have dropped 32%; a concerning result of police officers being targeted, fearing for their lives, feel alienated and concerned about doing their jobs. One of the core roles of police officers is that of law enforcement. However, there are times that it is necessary for an officer to rely less on enforcement of the law and instead concentrate on keeping peace in situations that exist outside of the norm. One such situation exists in the policing methods used in “skid-row” type areas of society. These types of areas are an anomaly to the rest of standard communities where simply enforcing the law will not be successful. The goal in these areas is to plainly contain the chaos using a hybrid form of community policing.

1773- Massachusetts patriots dressed as Mohawk Indians protest the British Tea Act by dumping crates of tea into the Boston Harbor. The British Tea Act was when the British increased the taxes on tea that were shipped to the colonies.
According to the march organizers, the march would symbolize their demands of “the passage of the Kennedy Administration Civil Rights Legislation without compromise of filibuster,” integration of all public schools by the end of the year, a federal program to help the unemployed, and a Federal Fair Employment Act which would ban job discrimination (“The March on Washington” 11). In order for the march not to appear as a war of white versus black it had to be racially integrated so it looked like justice versus injustice. Some organizers wanted to call for massive acts of disobedience across America, but when the Urban League and the N.A.A.C.P. joined the organization of the march, they insisted against it. The march was originally going to be on Capitol Hill to influence congress, but because of a 1882 law against demonstrating there, they decided to march to the Lincoln Memorial and invite congress to meet them there, knowing that they would not.
On June 28, 1969, an event occurred that was to be the start of one of the most powerful movements in US history. On that Friday in June, the New York police force raided a popular bar in Greenwich Village called the Stonewall Inn because it was suspected of operating without a liquor license. Raids usually went on undisturbed by people involved, but during this raid the area around the inn exploded into fierce protest. The repercussions and multiple disputes that resulted from the initial raid would come to be known as the Stonewall Riots.

This era is where the shift from a centralized task force has gravitated to a decentralized task force, causing some friction from both the community and the officers that serve it. Police are told that they are needed to listen to the concerns for the community; however, law enforcement is still the primary goal. Police forces now have to defend the values for which the forces were built upon. The idea of problem solving has come into question with police discretion towards certain run-ins with the law. Williams and Murphy argue it is due to the lack of sensitivity from minorities and the concern on crime itself than the community. This was key in failure as they never raised any support at one time so the government did not worry as small uprisings were easy to deal with.
