"Holocaust: 1. Great destruction resulting is the extensive loss of life, especially by fire." The Holocaust could be best described as the widespread genocide of over eleven million Jews and other undesirables throughout Europe from 1933 to 1945. It all began when Adolf Hitler, Germany's newest leader, enforced the Nuremburg Race Laws. These laws discriminated against Jews and other undesirables and segregated them from the rest of the population. As things grew worse, Jews were forced to wear the Star of David on their clothing. The laws even stripped them of their citizenship. The Night of Broken Glass, or the Krystal Naught, is a prime example of how dire the situation grew for Jews as their homes, businesses, and churches were destroyed. The true genocide, or race killing, began when Jews were collected up and sent to concentration or work camps. It was in these camps that they would be tortured, murdered, or worked like slaves. As World War 2 neared its end, Hitler put into act what he called the Final Solution, a last ditch effort to eliminate Judism in Europe, in which he killed over six million of them. Anne Frank was a thirteen year old Jewish girl who was forced into hiding in 1942. Her family and another family, the Van Daans, hid in the back of her father, Otto Frank's office building in what they called the "Secret Annex" for the next two years, until they were discovered by a Nazi group called the Gestapo and arrested. It was during her time in the Secret Annex that Anne wrote in a diary that she had named Kitty, telling it of her experiences in the the annex, reported the position of the war and its most memorible events, and shared her personal feelings on the situation. President Franklin Delanore Rosevelt made the difficult decision to drop two nuclear bombs on Japan. this resulted in more unimaginable loss. Finally, after over four and a half million lives lost, Japan surrendered, bringing World War 2 to a close. The Holocaust is one of the most learned about events in history. The question is, why do we learn about it? We choose to keep the horrors of the Holocaust fresh in our minds and the minds of our children to keep it from ever happening again. The United Nations was formed to keep another World War from happening. We study the Holocaust so that we can identify the early stages of genocide and stop it before it starts. We put so much effort studying history to keep it from repeating itself.
The Holocaust was the time period when Adolf Hitler was in control of the territory of Germany and wanted the extinction of the Jews. The Holocaust was a very vigorous on the Jews because they were treated the worst and had the worst living conditions. The Holocaust derived the Jews of their wealth, and little bit of humanity that they held dear to themselves. Adolf Hitler established laws to make it basically illegal to be a Jew in Germany. Since Adolf Hitler was in power he commanded that all Jews properties and valuables be taken. For example, in the book “Maus” it states, “He had to sell his business to a German and run out from the country without even the money.”(
The Holocaust or the Ha-Shoah in Hebrew meaning ‘the day of the Holocaust and heroism’ refers to the period of time from approximately January 30,1933, when Adolf Hitler became the legal official of Germany, to May 8,1945. After the war was over in Europe, the Jews in Europe were being forced to endure the horrifying persecution that ultimately led to the slaughter of over 6 million Jews with about 1.5 million of them being children as well as the demolition of 5,000 Jewish communities.
We learn about the Holocaust to learn what is right and wrong and to remember the people who died. The main reason we learn about the Holocaust is so it does not happen again.
The years between 1933-1945 was a horrifying time period. We learn about the Holocaust to know and learn about how bad the past was and what people had to go through. People study the Holocaust to be educate and undertsand the past. The most important reason why we study the Holocaust is so that nothing as bad as the Holocaust was, happens again. According to Edmund Burke, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
In the end, the real main question is why. Why do we study the Holocaust? We study it for so many reasons. We study it so we remember all the tragic events, from the murdering of the Jews to the liberation of death camps. Also this defineing moment in history lets us see how rasicim effected everything. Not only in Germany with the Nuremberg Laws, but here as well with the Jim Crow Laws. WWII did help us out of The Great Depression though. But the most important reason as to why we study this is so we know the signs, so it will never happen again. No one should ever want this to repeat. It was tragic all around. Thats why kids world wide will alwats study about the Holocaust.
We study history to learn from it. People make mistakes and it is not only our job, but our responsibility to learn from them so no one makes those errors again. What we learn from the Holocaust is what happens when you forget your morals and blindly follow others. We learn the horrible, tragic outcome of racism and discrimination. We learn that when good does nothing, evil takes over. We study the Holocaust because it is not only important, but essential that we do not repeat history.

Approximately twelve million people had their lives taken, half being Jews. Everything changed and became impacted all around the world when Hitler took over Germany, he had a strong prejudice against the Jews. His goal was to create the perfect race of human, blonde hair, blue eyed Germans. The soldiers in Hitler’s camp was his followers, the Nazis, which did all of his dirty work for him. There were also many other people that contributed to his massive event. There became different clans and groups of people going out on their own and doing the killing also, not only Jews. For example, the doctors that ran test on people and experimented on the people didn’t care about their patients wellbeing or health
So why exactly do we learn about the Holocaust? The answer is simple really. To answer, we first must ask this. Why do we learn about history in general? We learn history so that the bad things that happened in years pasted do not repeat themselves. In other words we learn about the Holocaust simply so it does not happen again.
The word “Holocaust”, was originated from the words “Holos” meaning whole, and “kaustos” meaning burned. To Adolf Hitler, Jews were an “inferior” race. After years of Nazi rule, Hitler’s “final solution” came under the cover of world war, with mass killing centers constructed in the concentration camps. Jews, Jehovah's Witnesses, Roma Gypsies, Priests and Pastors, homosexuals, and black children were all victims of the holocaust. Most of the victims left were from other countries. 6,000 Jehovah's witnesses, over 15,00 homosexuals, 400 “colored” children, and over 5,000,000 jews were killed.
So why do we study the Holocaust? Is it to know of Adolf Hitler's madness or know about a large part of World War II? I believe it is to know how to recognize and stop something like the Holocaust from ever happening again. It is like Edmund Burke said, "All tyrany needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent." The Holocaust gained it's foodhold because we didn't know what was happening so we remained silent. A lot of the suffering and pain could've been prevented if we had simply realized what was going on. Another one of Edmund's quotes is that, "Those who don't know history are destined to repeat it." That is why we must learn and know about the Holocaust so that we do not repeat our mistakes of the past.
The Holocaust was an extremely tragic event that occurred between 1933 and 1945. During this time, the German leader, Hitler, decided to exterminate Jews and non Aryans. Aryans were what he considered to be the superior race although Hitler himself was not an Aryan. These people that he considered to be Aryan had blond hair and blue eyes. Hitler had very biased and strong beliefs and fought for them whether they were wrong or not.
On June 12, 1929, at 7:30 AM, a baby girl was born in Frankfort, Germany. No one realized that this infant, who was Jewish, was destined to become one of the worlds most famous victims of World War II. Her name was Anne Frank. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, by Anne Frank and B.M. Mooyaart, was actually the real diary of Anne Frank. Anne was a girl who lived with her family during the time while the Nazis took power over Germany. Because they were Jewish, Otto, Edith, Margot, and Anne Frank immigrated to Holland in 1933. Hitler invaded Holland on May 10, 1940, a month before Anne?s eleventh birthday. In July 1942, Anne's family went into hiding in the Prinsengracht building. Anne and her family called it the 'Secret Annex'. Life there was not easy at all. They had to wake up at 6:45 every morning. Nobody could go outside, nor turn on lights at night. Anne mostly spent her time reading books, writing stories, and of course, making daily entries in her diary. She only kept her diary while hiding from the Nazis. This diary told the story of the excitement and horror in this young girl's life during the Holocaust. Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl reveals the life of a young innocent girl who is forced into hiding from the Nazis because of her religion, Judaism. This book is very informing and enlightening. It introduces a time period of discrimination, unfair judgment, and power-crazed individuals, and with this, it shows the effect on the defenseless.
