“OH MY GOD”! “says” Disha. She says that world has change from when we use to play fun game like board games, card games, and athletic games now we can’t get off the technology. Also, she mentions how she remembers the activities she use to do while she visit her grandparents such as making cookies, reading story book, etc. She says during her childhood it took very little effort to have fun. There were simple games, such as jump rope and other activities made from natural materials brought laughter and happiness to our families. On other hand “my grandchildren have” a new definition of having fun. Now the definition for fun is media and new technologies which giving kids, teens, and adults many ways to express themselves and to have fun, which of course, comes with a costly price. Disha remember when she was doing the essay for school she came across the fact that social sites have hit more then billion users in less than a year. In which Facebook is the top social networking site that people uses.
In the past years societies have seen an explosion in the type of programming commonly call “Social media”. Social media, which literally means “websites and applications used for social networking,” is the most widely used by everyone in society. In the earlier period year’s media has had an intense effect on society, an effect so immense we don’t even notice its presence sometimes. Media is crucial to any society: we are all surrounded by media. Each and every day people interact with media of many forms. Media is also generally defined as being a channel of communication. ...that, "Who lack the communication skills to speak to someone in person, so instead they rant and rave via keyboard." (Mapes 102) This is an important quote because if someone cannot talk in front of a person then they should not be talking behind that person's back on Social media. Nowadays, people fights on Social media because they do not have skills to fight face-to-face. They are lacking in communication because they are doing one-sided conversations.

Citizens around the world are drastically influenced by the media around them. Every day life is constantly changing because of the new trends on what is popular. As Ms. Susie Orbach stated “Social media […]
Social networks were made to help keep people connected. Social networks provide people with access to entertainment, news, free advertising for business owners. These social platforms also provide users to communicate with family abroad. With all these benefits one would think that everyone would be happy with social networking but that’s not the case, in fact some people are against social networks. I think social networks are beneficial for everyone who might use this resource responsibly.
Over the past few years, social media has had a significant effect on the communication, knowledge, and public reaction to assorted topics in our society today. Social media has been a great addition to our society today in helping spread news more quickly and makes us communicate more efficiently, but the negatives overshadow the positives. Specific types of social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram have been a catalyst to giving people the opportunities to expose topics and voice their opinions to the public eye. We see athletes, celebrities, and politicians being affected by this every day. In our lives today, everyone has lost their right to privacy due to the expansions and advances of social media. Whenever a tweet is posted on Twitter or a picture is posted on either Instagram or Facebook, many people will emphasize their opinion and sometimes create negative views that can hurt the person being talked about or viewed. We have seen in many major topics in the news, reporters and writers will blast certain topics out of proportion. News stations even affect social media because they often use posts in their reporting. Thus, people will continue to voice their views on social media, causing its influence to continually grow. Social Media has the ability to violate our personal privacy and expose the negative interpretations on people and topics in society.
Since the beginnings of American society, America has used news media as its primary tool to distribute information. Media is involved in nearly every aspect of everyday life. From morning until night, citizens are constantly bombarded by media images on television, radio, magazines, and the internet. However, since the mid-2000’s, one form of media has dominated the social landscape. This type of media has entirely changed the way other media connects with its viewers. It has shifted the power of information from the select few to the masses, from the broadcaster to the audience. It has given the individual voice a pedestal. It has made information faster, busier, more streamlined, more hectic, more interactive, all at the same time. Its name is social networking.
The effects of social media seems miniscule compared to the real effects that they really intel. He believes that there is a strong correlation between social media usage and the degradation in the quality of performance from students in schools across the United States of America, from the grades of freshman through senior year in high school. It shortens our attention spans, diminishes our vision uses—in terms of far sided, near sided, and peripheral vision—and it’s such a major part of our culture that the majority of us fail to recognize that the very thing that society continuously does is setting them up for failure in the most excruciating ways.
There’s no denying that social media has its many pros and cons, but I think that the positive impacts of social media outweigh its negative impacts. One example of how social media has been an influence for social change was during the Arab Spring, a series of uprisings, armed rebellions, and anti-government protests that took the Middle East by storm in early 2011. Social media, especially Twitter, was used as a communication tool; government corruption and injustices were unveiled, protests were organized, and many were rallied to join the cause of Arab Spring activists. Social media’s role in this revolution proved that it can be used to transform society and politics on a global scale. In regards to how we can begin to think critically
Nowadays, it is not only common to have social media accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, but expected. Many people know the numerous benefits of signing-up for these accounts: keeping in touch with friends, being able to organize information and photographs, keeping track of dates or news, and many more. However, new research suggests that the use of these social media networks, specifically Twitter, can cause great unhappiness in relationships (“Twitter use…”). It appears that the social media page can act as a third member of the relationship. The use of these networks can take up so much time of one or both of the partners, that it is like having another person in the relationship. Unfortunately, this loss of time as well as the other negative affects social media has on relationships, can lead to communication issues and arguments.
From "thintastic" blogs to suicide stories, social media has become not only a source of conversation but a gateway to harmful suggestions that many teenagers see and believe to be allowable, when in fact the situations proposed are dangerous to those who attempt them. Statistics show that 20% of anorexic teenagers will die prematurely, and 80% of teenagers who commit suicide are depressed (South). Social media has glorified and brought to attention eating disorders, depression, and suicide among teens that might otherwise not become a statistic in these critical categories.
Social media is so popular that according to a recent article published by forbes.com, “72% of American adults are currently using social media sites; that figure has gone up 800% in just 8 years”(Olenski). Social networking was originally created to simply reconnect people with old high school pals, but in recent years it has evolved into a completely different operation. When social media first originated it was also intended for adult usage, which has in recent years expanded into the usage of all ages. Social media can create a negative affect on lives because it has been proven to be a dangerous addiction, for it takes away interpersonal relationships that are essential in life, and it has been proven to prevent people from being productive in life.
Communication plays an important role and becomes an essential part in our daily lives. Today we have taken communication to new level as social media and social networking. They have had a tremendous impacts on the word, on our culture and in business as well. Social media websites are some of the most popular on the internet, such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc. They are the places where people can interact with others easily and expose themselves to strangers. Our generation and the younger ones have more opportunities to grow up with the new development of technology that will shape the way they live of communicating and sharing ideas. The social media causes some problems that lead to less social interaction and negatively affect students academic, but it also brings benefit to people that creates new social connections to bring people from all over the world to be closer.
Social media is a great advancement in society. However, social media has many positives and negative elements to it. Such as increased social connections, affects on mental health and stress, language skills including nonverbal communication, and emotional states. With each positive of technologies advancements in social communication there is a negative. In other words, social media is like a double edged sword— that when used correctly can be great in battle, but when misused or used for the wrong reasons, can cause harm to the one who wields the weapon. It takes a knowledgeable swordsman to use a sword properly, but a fool to swing it widely, same can be said for technology, if its not used correctly it can be harmful, but used wisely and with careful thought it can lead to many victories and positive outcomes.
Today, social media is used in extreme amounts by millions of people. Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter are all sites that allow people to converse, exhibit their life, and speak their minds. There is a point where this freedom of communication should be controlled. Bullying exists on several of these sights and only does more harm than good. This harm should be limited and controlled. John Stuart Mill was an English philosopher who redesigned utilitarianism to fit a more sophisticated age. In his book, “Utilitarianism”, the moral system is defined as “[t]he creed which accepts as the foundation of morals, Utility, or the Greatest Happiness Principle, holds that actions are right in proportion as they tend to
Today technology has created new styles of communication on the internet for us all. This technology has made great impact on everyday life in today’s society. Cyber communications have become hugely popular in the last decade, especially those websites that help people to find new or old friends, keep in touch with families, and even help people to find potential dates! The numbers of people using cyber social networking are growing in millions every year. Cyber social networks have helped people link to each other with common interests, and expand personal ideas and support worldwide. But people are getting too friendly with this technology. Dangers are slowly appearing, and there still have a lot of hidden threats. Cyber social networks are threats to our personal social lives, lead into new addictions, and compromise the security of privacy issues.
The social media is one of the most common means of communication and pretty much of knowing anything and everything around the world these days, and it is growing very rapidly. It changes and affects each person in a different way, or ways. Some may argue that social media has a bad influence on children and young adults, while most people see that the social media has a more positive effect on them than a negative one. Social media is basically the new way of keeping in touch with everything and everyone, and of even strengthening bonds between each other. This essay will argue that social media has improved communication between people, and has also improved the means of communication between them.
It’s almost impossible these days to have a conversation that doesn’t involve the world of social media. In the world of today, media has become as necessary as food and water as it plays a crucial role in strengthening society. Media Studies is a programme that pursues to comprehend how the world can be shaped by media industries and practitioners (Purvis, T. 2006). The role of the media is to give the public all the relevant information and incidences that are occurring around the world as well as it is the responsibility of the media to inform, educate and entertain the people of the world. In the media, the social, political, cultural and personal dimensions of life, intervene and are therefore central to the interpretation of how local and international societies function in the twenty-first century (Purvis, T. 2006).
