My Greatness

Equality means treating everyone equally regardless of their colour, age, gender, and

disability. However, that hasn’t been the case for women. Women have not been treated

equally to men. For example, if a woman wanted to vote, they couldn’t, or if they are

working, they will not get the same wage as men. This however, changed when a group

of women who called themselves, “The Famous Five”. “The Famous Five”, wanted

women to be considered “persons” and to be treated as human beings. In 1929, it all

changed when the Judicial Committee declared: women were indeed persons. The things

that women must have to gain equality are pay equity because usually women always get

less than men do, having more women in government, having leagues for women to

play professional sports and to guarantee women rights. In order for women to gain

equality, laws should be enacted in order for women to have equality in the world.

By having women in politics, there can be more equality because the only people that

are in politics and usually the Prime Minister are men. The only woman to become Prime

Minister was Kim Campbell, but she was not in office for very long. As of 2010, Canada

ranks 50th in the world for women’s participation in politics with women holding just 23

percent of the seats in federal and territorial legislatures. This is outrageous because

Canada is a country of oppruntunity, hope, and equality. However, this is not the case

because we are still in a society that has men as superior power and women second class.

Some people might describe this as the white people who were the superior power, while

the black people had n...

gurarntee, if they are getting abused then everyone must listen and not turn their head

when someone is filing a report. This can bring more equality to women are being abused

or not taken seriously.

In conclusion, by having equality for women there can be a balance between men and

women. To do this, laws should be enacted in order for women to have equality in the

world. For example, pay equity for women, having more women in government, having

leagues for women to play professional sports and to have a law guaranteeing women

rights. All of the ideas are the foundation to help women gain equality. Once this is done,

women can feel more at home and when they look back on their life they can say, “I had

a great life”.
