“Survival of the fittest”, means the strong will succeed but the fearful will not, this is the case when it comes to military technology. If investments in military technology stop we may put the safety of the citizens in harm’s way. What advancements have been made in our military’s tech and what is still being developed? Technology in the military has greatly increased strength and eased the ranking among world powers and effected the development of new military weapons. Technology is a very important part of modern warfare so what advancements have been made in our military’s tech and what is still being developed? The space race that took place between U.S.A and the Soviet Union during the cold war spawned some of the greatest technical achievements in history, for example the U-2 Spy plane was developed from the result of space travel. The military force today is almost entirely computer based. From the FA-18s high tech displays to the M1A2 Abrams tank windowless cockpits, the military has improved its technology at a record pace.
On August 2, 1990 the Gulf War started as a result of Iraqi invading Kuwait and was declared the first war of the 21st century. The U.S. used an aircraft known as the B2 Stealth Bomber that was never brought down by enemy fire, due to it being able to fly hundreds of stories above the battlefield. People couldn’t imagine what else we had that was just a destructive. Nowadays, we have taken the B2 and improved it into the MQ-9 Reaper, an unmanned aircraft which just has much firepower but with just one shot. The Reaper is currently being used by the U.S. military to provide assistance to the troops on the ground. They are capable of flying at high altitudes, as the B2 Bomber did, which make it hard ...

...ccomplishments. As the years progress, just as they have in the past, so will military technology. Not more 80 years ago, the United States was just learning how to se machine guns. Not more than 60 years ago, the United States was just learning how to use tanks and artillery. Nowadays, the US military has become the leading war machine in all aspects of warfare including weapons, computer technology and biological as well as chemical warfare. God only knows what advancements are to come our way.
On the use of drones, NYT’s Peter M. Singer (“Do Drones Undermine Democracy?”) makes the comprehensive argument that the use of drones goes against the how wars are meant to be fought—human participation. It can be counter argued that these automatons are better in terms of expendability; personnel are not easily replaced while drones are easily replaceable. The Bush 43 strategy relied more on men, and it did yielded adverse results politically. The switch to drones presented dynamic political benefits, for which Singer argued allowed for circumvention of aggravated/emotive discourse among members of the American populace, academics and mass media. It is imperative to remember that the cost of the campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq—increases in casualties—was detrimental to the American credibility and brought about victory to Obama in 2008 elections.
Many of the military technological advancements that have been made in the last 60 years can be attributed to the Cold War. Much of the technology developed during the period of the Cold War is still in use today by the military and government. Advancements in offensive technology are well known to just about everyone in the way of nuclear energy harnessed in the form of the nuclear bomb, but little is known about the battle for information during the Cold War. The Cold War produced some of the most advanced technology used in the fields of detection and reconnaissance in history. The United States’ detection and reconnaissance technology played a major role against communism during the Cold War, and these types of technology still play roles today.
The post 9/11 era in The United States defense policies have been one of proactive as compared to reactive. The United States has been looking at methods to gather intelligence on our enemy while ensuring the safety of our troops. The drone has been the answer to the search because the drone is capable of ensuring the U.S. life, forced projection of power over our enemies, and Strategic stealth tactical striking.
Firmin DeBrabander’s "Drones and the Democracy Disconnect" appeared in the September 2014 magazine The New York Times. The article in this paper shows DeBrabander aiming to convince his readers that the United States is gradually becoming a warring nation with fewer and fewer warriors and few who know the sacrifices of war. "Drones represent the new normal, and are an easy invitation to enter into and wage war indefinitely." DeBrabander tries to explain to his audience on what’s going on with the Drones and the ISIS, but fails to do so.

The Blackhawk, Apache, and Chinook have performed service in various environments around the world and proven themselves in peacetime and during combat, most recently in Iraq and Afghanistan. Army Aviation and helicopter operations have a unique role in today’s modern battles. This role has been developed over time and many soldiers have placed a heavy reliance on helicopter assets being available to assist in their life or death situations. This reliance has carved out the true mission and is the reason Army Aviation exists; ”to be relentlessly focused on and dedicated to honoring a sacred trust with commanders and soldiers on the ground.“ This trust is why even the thought of moving toward unmanned aircraft causes such recoil among aviators and soldiers alike. Soldiers prefer the idea of riding behind a Blackhawk or Chinook pilot when heading into a firefight on an air assault. They appreciate a “Dust-off” flight crew willing to risk their own lives time after time to rescue wounded soldiers from the battlefield. Combat infantry units under fire breathe a sigh of relief when they hear the calm voice of an Apache pilot arriving to provide them with aerial gun
The Gulf War was much more than a fight to liberate Kuwait. It was the first non-conventional war; in which new, fairly new, or even experimental weapons were used. The Gulf War displayed much new technology that you will learn lots about in this paper. This paper may sound very technical, but that is what it is about, the new weapon technology vs. the conventional types of weapons used in previous wars. This paper is about the advancement of weapon technology, and how the military changed the tactics used before.
In WWII we were flying things like the Mustang and the Lightning. Now we have much more advanced planes like the Lightning II and the Raptor. Since WWII the US has rapidly advanced the technology, weapons, and engine systems in their military fighter aircraft.

One great defining cultural aspect of drone technology in America, is its magnificent history. According to Newcome (2004), Radioplane Company in Hollywood, was owned by a British Actor and WWII pilot and built over 15,000 small drones for the military. A young President Ronald Reagan, when he was in the Airforce, directed an Army journalist to do a story on the Radioplane Company, where he took the first photographs of Norma Jean assembling radio-controlled airplanes. The young Army photographer told Norma she could be a model and only a few years later Marilyn Monroe emerged.
With stealth technology, many new and extremely effective aircraft have been developed for air warfare. One of the very first stealth aircrafts was developed for Operation Dessert Storm. This stealth fighter jet was the F-117A. The U.S. sent out 43 of these jets, and all of them returned and with not as much as a scratch on them. During Dessert Storm, the F-117A pr...
