Social media provided people with a mean that they can use to strengthen their connection with people they care about. It also facilitated connections to people that were not possible before. People now can connect with societies from all over the world and are able to be impacted by those connections. This made it easier for people who share similar ideas and problems to communicate with each other. As Davidson explains in her essay “Indisputably, the imagination is engaged in making connections in all of those forms, as it is in anything we experience. It is engaged in a different way when we ourselves are making the connections when we’re browsing from one to another link that interests us and draws our attention” (55). Social media made it easier for people to satisfy their need for communication with others. As social beings, humans like to connect with each other; it is how they develop empathy towards others. As Fredrickson explains in her essay “As you interact with one person after another, they gently nudge you to attend to these others more closely and forge connections when possible. They shape your motives and behaviors in subtle ways, yet ultimately, their actions serve to strengthen your relationships and knit you closer to the social fabric of life” (110). Now social media websites or applications serve as pathways
The ways of communication have drastically changed over the years. Historically, he only way to communicate was to write a letter, which usually took a while to get where it was going. Then, technology started to grow with the invention of the telephone in 1876. Technology continued to rise with the computer being invented around 1936 which then brought us emailing in the 1970’s. With the rise of computer technology and finding faster ways for people to communicate, social media and networking were born. Social media is a way for people to interact with each other, share photos online and exchange thoughts or ideas about something. The increased utilization of social networks, such as Facebook, has altered the means in which people attain and practice communication, and the social skills that are necessary to function in their daily lives. This form of communication has changed how people look at their friendships and relationships, has caused issues with people’s privacy, and has resulted an increase in Cyberbullying.

The development of technology has led up to different ways of social interaction with one another. The launch of the computer was a huge impact in American history. It wasn’t only the computer that launched but also the Internet. Which brought different ways that people could interact with one another though Email and social networks (Lutfala). Some of the more popular social networks used are twitter and Facebook. People may become addicted to tweeting and posting up a tweet or status, this may become a priority to some people. Also more than 9 out of 10 American teenagers use social media(Blaszczak). Because of social networking we are becoming more connected than ever before. Important information can spread faster than wildfire, and we now have the ability to have friends and relationships all over the world. With the ability to communicate and interact with anyone at our fingertips what could go wrong? Well...lots of things.
Social networking is doing more harm than good in society, if traditional and personal interactions continue to be replaced with conversations through online networking sites, it won’t be long before they are perceived as the ‘norm’. Traditional methods of interaction will continue to be at risk if the effects of social media are not realised. Social networking sites were created as a means of making it easier for individuals to communicate in a timely and efficient manner, they were not created to take over face-to-face communications altogether. The constant use of online networking is doing more harm than good not only individually, similarly through the community

The social media is one of the most common means of communication and pretty much of knowing anything and everything around the world these days, and it is growing very rapidly. It changes and affects each person in a different way, or ways. Some may argue that social media has a bad influence on children and young adults, while most people see that the social media has a more positive effect on them than a negative one. Social media is basically the new way of keeping in touch with everything and everyone, and of even strengthening bonds between each other. This essay will argue that social media has improved communication between people, and has also improved the means of communication between them.
