There is no doubt that almost all people in developed country using mobile phones, from teen until old peoples. They are using mobile phones for business communication, keeping contact with family and friends, and even just followed the trends. This essay will focus on using mobile phones in elementary and high schools. There are many disadvantages of using mobile phones in school such as, students use mobile phones for cheating, as well as that can destroy concentration while study in classroom. It also be shown that other electronic devices to facilitate student while study at schools. However, this essay will argue that mobile phones should be banned in schools. The first reason to support that mobile phones should be banned in schools is that devices can be used to cheating for instance, text friends about answers during a test, take picture of test questions with mobile phones to send to friends, search the internet to answers during a test, and store information on mobile phones to look at during a test. It is suggested by Benenson Strategy Group (2008) indicated that 65 per c...
Watters, Audrey. “Why Schools Should Stop Banning Cell Phones, and Use Them for Learning.” Pbs.org. 29 July 2011. Web. 30 Mar. 2014.
There are many rules set in place by school districts and administrators against use of cell phones in the class room. These rules span from kindergarten through twelfth grade and into college. In the article “The only thing to fear is one hundred and twenty characters” Kevin M. Thomas and Christy D. Mcgee inform their readers about the positive results cell phones can have in the class room. They state that cell phones have already helped bring literacy rates up in elementary schools across the nation. The article also shows the readers some applications that they can put on their child’s smart phone that will help them with their school work. These applications help with math, english, science and reading, just to name a few. Thomas and McGee also show negative points such as cheating, cyber bullying, and sexting. Although cheating and bullying have been around for a very long time and cell phones are just another avenue that they can use. They say that sexting is a new phenomenon but is more about bad morals than school productivity. Although there are negatives for allowing cell phones in schools, the benefits outweigh the negative aspects of cell phones. Having cell phones allowed in the classroom can have many beneficial outcomes. Cell phones can be very helpful for students in academics, safety, and communication.
In a survey that was recently conducted, one third of teens with cellular devices admitted to storing information for reference during tests, and even texting friends about answers. The parents of these pupils believe that their child has enough integrity to prevent them from cheating, but unfortunately they are incorrect. Before we can eliminate cheating, we need to address the fact that nearly 1 in 4 students presume that the act of using a cell phone for information or answers is not cheating (Miners). Inappropriate cell phone use does not stop there. More than half of adolescents and teens have experienced cyber bullying and around an equal amount are ...
There are an abundance of reasons why cell phones should be banned from schools; there are also a great amount of reasons why cell phones should not be banned from schools. One claim is that cell phones should not be allowed in schools. First of all, phones are a distraction to students (Lee). One example of cell phones being a distraction would be, “calling a friend to chat, checking emails or viewing pictures or videos” (Lee). That quote displays that cell phones are used more for fun than for school purposes. Secondly, cell phones should not be allowed at school because it gives the students another way to cheat on exams. An example of cheating could be, “take a photo of the exam, and send the picture to someone for the purposes of cheating”
Cell phones, they are used everywhere. But should they be used in schools? There are many opinions on the topic should cell phones be used in schools. My opinion is Yes cell phones should be used in school. Why? well they are used in so many good ways such as doing work on the phones. Meanwhile there are many ways they can used in a bad way such as using them to go on social media during class. And this is why I think cell phones should be used in school.
Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school's most easily accessible phone was on the other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the use of cellular devices in educational facilities. I believe that cell phone use is of extreme convenience, and has academically beneficial aspects, among it's so called "faults".
Access to cell phones let students take photos of test; for example, one student will distract a teacher so that others can photograpgh test questions or answer keys and then use them for personal gain. Also , having cellphone access in classrooms means students can text or face time answers to each other while in testing quaters. Cellphones now a days also have many different Apps, Tools, or Online connections that can allow students to look up answers and use apps like calculators, translatators and dictornaires. All of these ways enable cheating using cellphones in classrooms and in testing quaters. Futhermore, the final reason has drawn alot of attention in the news lately and is a big concern for many
In conclusion, this essay has tried to argue that cell phones are valuable tools in schools. Many of us see cell phone pessimistically but really haven’t looked at them optimistically. We all know that "with every good, comes a bad, and with responsibilities, come consequences". By all means allowing cell phones in schools is a great idea, and students should start to learn the positive features of that new device. Overall, this essay has attempted to show that allowing cell phones in schools is not a bad idea.
Cell phones can be used as a useful tool in the classroom as there are advantages to using cell phones opposed to not using cell phones. “Cell phones also do offer advantages, the camera phone can have a number of educational benefits. The camera
Buzzzzzzzzzz! Another cellphone is going off in the middle of class, causing her to blush and discreetly check her new text message. A virtual conversation is buzzing back and forth inside one classroom and into the classroom across the hall, having a discussion about the party that night or the lipstick color chosen at the mall. In another classroom, a student posts the answers to the English exams on her profile page, allowing all of her buddies to read and use for their time of the exam. There are multiple examples of students using their cell phones during class time to communicate their thoughts, images of their environment or dangerous crimes. In addition, the percentage of students with cellphones now soars to about 80% (Ban). This highly increases the chance for students to have a cell phones on them during school. Cell phones can also be harmful to students during class, taking them into another world of technology, separated from the classroom, and turning them down a road of decisions they never intended on doing. Overall, cell phones alter classroom learning in a negative way, and should be banned from use in the classroom at all schools.
One reason to consider the introduction of cell phones in learning is to promote digital etiquette, a concept that is foreign to most people. According to Liz Kolb (the author of “Toys to Tools”) Digital etiquette is “a basic set of rules you should follow in order to make the internet better for others, and better for you.” Kolb says in her book that “an educator’s job is to help students navigate and stay safe in their media world”. Students often are unaware to the consequences of their use and misuse of technology. Currently, many students do not overthink about protecting their own privacy. For example 55% of students do not care whether the digital material they use is copyrighted. Students ages 10 to 17 often do not take in appropriate cell phone use. According to Kolb “While nine out of ten 10- to 17- year olds believe that they are courteous on their cell phones, 52% admit to sending text messages at the movie theater, while 28% admit to sending texts at the dinner table.” These statistics show that teens are unaware with cell pho...
Picture this, there has been a school lockdown, the suspect cut the landlines so no one could call the police for a rescue. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn’t have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless efforts. Cell phones should be permitted in schools, because they could be very beneficial and practical in schools.
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones regard the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves a sense of security.
Mobile phones are undeniable today. Almost everybody has a mobile phone. Formerly, it only functioned as a portable mean of communication. The function of a mobile phone has developed into entertainment. Furthermore, mobile phone has also come into the schools. However, it has both positive and negative effect on students. This essay argues that mobile phones will bring more negative than positive effect for students. Of course, students use it as a mean of communication and sometimes for an emergency call if they need it. Yet, they would use their mobile phones for both bullying and cheating. Also, mobile phones will make students lost concentration during their study.
Mobile phones have various negative effects on a teenager's life and their life style. It can affect the student's in many ways. It can lead to health related problems, academic distractions, exam malpractice and change in behavior of teenagers. Reserches have shown that a mobile phone can cause an increased risk of acoustic neuroma and glioma in teenagers (Ravidchandran, S. V., (2009)). It can also cause ipsilateral , this is a tumor caused on the side of the brain where phone mostly held. It is highly risky for a teenager's health, as it is their growing period of time. Mobile phones are also known as a cause for academic distraction of students. Students tend to carry mobile phones to schools. Due to which they tend to use mobile phones during their lectures, they listen to songs, watch videos, play games ,chat with their friends online, etc. which makes mobile phones act as major source of distraction in a student's life . The students don’t conce...
