1. INTRODUCTION:-

As we all know virtualization is the requirement of future. We have evolved from the age of traditional environment to virtual environment. We have grown accustomed to almost all things virtual from virtual memory to virtual networks to virtual storage. The most widely leveraged benefit of virtualization technology is server consolidation, enabling one server to take on the workloads of multiple servers. For example, by consolidating a branch office’s print server, fax server, exchange server, and web server on a single windows server, businesses reduce the costs of hardware, maintenance, and staffing.

In 2008, Microsoft released hyper-v, its first bare-metal hypervisor-based technology, built intowindows server 2008. Hyper-v helped Organization to efficiently utilize their hardware resources, reducing infrastructure total cost of ownership. Hyper-v can run can run independent virtual environments, with different operating systems and resource requirements, within the same physical server.

1.1 Background:-

Microsoft hyper-v, codenamed viridian and formerly known as windows server virtualization, is a hypervisor-based virtualization system for x86-64 systems.

Beginning with windows server 2008, a beta version of hyper-v was shipped with certain x86-64 editions of windows server 2008; server virtualization via hyper-v technology has been an integral part of the operating system. The finalized version (automatically updated through windows update) was released on June 26, 2008.Hyper-v has since been released in a free stand-alone version, and has been upgraded to release 2 (r2) status, and this was further enhanced with service pack 1 (sp1).

There are two manifestations of the hyper-v technology:

No partition have the access to the physical processors, they do not have the authority to handle the processor interrupts. The hypervisor handles the interrupts to the processor, and redirects them to the respective partition.

2.2.1 Hyper-V And Type 1 Virtualization:-

Hyper-V is the bare-metal hypervisor-based technology, built into Windows Server 2008. In bare metal hypervisor- based virtualization a hypervisor runs directly on the hardware of the host system and is responsible for sharing the physical hardware resources with multiple virtual machines.

BARE METAL HYPERVISOR-BASED VIRTUALIZATION.

In basic terms, the primary purpose of the hypervisor is to manage the physical CPU and memory allocation between the various virtual machines
