What is medical technology? Medical technology is procedures, equipment, and processes by which medical care is delivered. It is also any scientific discovery that finds its application in delivering health care. As technology advances the ability of providers to diagnose, treat and prevent health problems also increase, as stated by the Congressional Budget Office “the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) defines technological advances broadly to include any changes in clinical practice that enhance the ability of providers to diagnose, treat, or prevent health problems.” (CBO). The use of medical technology has an important role in the health care system and how the FDA plays a role in it, these issues will be discussed later. Medical technology comes with many Pro's and Con' s that effect our health industry and these Pro's and Con's will also be discussed.
We use medical technology in our health care every day; we use this technology in clinics, hospitals and other medical facilities. The technology we use is used for equipment, devices, Pharmaceutical, and in medical and surgical procedures. We also incorporate technology to make our medical database for patients through information system, and this helps us manage and organize data. Some of the information technology applications are clinical information system, administrative information system, decision and support system, and internet and e-health applications. A lot more physicians and patients are using internet and e-health because, certain applications can make physicians more productive like virtual visits appropriate for monitoring and follow up. It was just yesterday when Electronic health records was just introduced in healthcare industry. People were not ready to accept it due to higher cost and consumption of time associated in training people and adopting new technology. Despite of all this criticism, use of Internet and Electronic Health records are now gaining its popularity among health care professionals, as it is the most effective way to communicate with patient and colleagues. More and more hospitals and clinics are getting rid of paper base filling system and investing in cloud base storage.

As technology continues to evolve so does the need for healthcare facilities to continually maintain a higher level of competence that runs parallel to electronic and scientific advancement. Comparatively, the structure of hi-tech facilities, such as medical centers and clinics prepared with new amenities has enhanced the industry scale of communities by working in the healthcare arena. Likewise, technological innovations which help diagnose a variety of infections and disorders has helped in assisting patients in receiving increased quality care. As a result, patient care as a whole has positively been affected within the last decade. Furthermore, it only make sense that more personalized and precise problem-solving methods and procedures will be devised in the future. Accordingly, the following paragraphs will analyze the significance of the Meaningful Use program for nurses, nursing, national health policy, patient outcomes, and population health associated with the collection and use of the programs core criteria.

They have given the impression that it is almost imperative to learn about this fairly new field of study.

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is reshaping the health care system in the United States at an accelerating rate. In earlier times US Healthcare system was more focused on intervention of diseases, but now it is moving more towards preventive approach and I see Health IT as the most important tool that can lead this change. I strongly believe that my professional goals, range and depth of my experience and knowledge is an asset and my enthusiasm for the field makes me an ideal candidate for the Master of Professional Studies in Technology Management (Health Information Technology) program at Georgetown University.
From state and federal levels, the healthcare industry has come a very long way, experiencing changes along the way. The development of advanced technology that has enhanced the quality of healthcare delivery systems will help all patients to be able to benefit. Doctors are able to access patient records at a faster rate and respond to their patients in a much more timely fashion. E-mail, electronic transfer of records and telemedicine will give all patients and physicians the tools needed to be more efficient, deliver quality care and deliver quality telecommunication at a faster pace than before.
In other words, ICT basically promotes professionalism and reduce human effort as well as reducing the chances of erring. Healthcare simply means preventing, diagnosing and curing ailments that terminate life and reduce lifespan of human and all living things.
