The Media Industry in Malaysia

The media industry in Malaysia is slowing growing and following the global trends. There are several theories which can be applied to study and understand the implications that the media industry has on people. For this research, the theory chosen to be researched on, investigated, critiqued and examined its application to any areas in the Malaysian media industry is the social learning theory.

Explanation & discussion of the theory

Albert Bandura, a psychologist who proposed the social learning theory. Social learning theory is an influential theory that stresses on learning and development. Bandura stood firm in believing that direct reinforcement could not support for all forms of learning although, the social learning theory came from the roots of the traditional learning theory’s basic concepts (Cherry, 2014).

In Bandura’s social learning theory, he explained a social element; observational learning or modelling allows people to learn new information and behaviors by observing, interacting as well as imitating others. Many types of behaviors can be explained by using the observational learning element (Cherry, 2014).

Social learning theory has three primary ideas. The first idea is about people learn new things by observing. Next, the important part of this process is people’s internal mental conditions and the last idea clarifies that people may not change their behavior even though they have learned something (Cherry, 2014).

In this case, we can see that both of the boys were curious about oral sex so he requested the girl to try on them. This is how pornography affects children’s mind and change their perception about sex.

By looking through all these news, we can draw a conclusion that pornography has a big impact on children as they will imitate what they see and hear easily. Online pornography is teaching a wrong lesson to all the readers no matter adult or children. Girls are usually the victim and sex objects. Online pornography which can damage youngster’s mind is more likely to increase the number of crimes nowadays (Brown, 2014).
