The 1971-72 season was definitely one for the record books. The Lakers were not expected to turn around after a mediocre season the year before and dominate the way that they did. Nba.com explains this season as;
“Gail Goodrich, Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, Jim McMillan and Happy Hairston were all a part of this dominant season. “Broke Philadelphia’s 1966-67 record for wins in a season (broken by Chicago in 1995-96), at one point winning 33 consecutive games, a record that still stands.” (NBA.”) To put that into perspective, winning 33 games in a row is the most consecutive victories in the history of any major North American Sport. (“NBA”.) If they were to play a game every single day they would have won every game for over an entire month. That shows how dominant this season really was. They went on to defeat New York 4 games to 1 in the 1972 NBA Finals.” (“NBA”.)
Another one of the Lakers dominant season came in the year of 1986-87. The “Showtime” Lakers, (“NBA”.) according to Nba.com this was one of the most dominant seasons the league has ever seen, Nba.com writes,
“The Lakers recaptured their place atop the NBA thanks to the “Showtime” fast-break style spearheaded by Earvin “Magic” Johnson and teammates Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy, Byron Scott, A.C. Green and Michael Cooper…Johnson averaged a career-best 23.9 points per game and led the league in assists with a 12.2 average…Lakers defeated Boston 4-2 in the 1987 NBA Finals after winning 11 of their first 12 games in the playoffs.” (“NBA.”)
With a winning percentage of (.793) this Lakers team was one of the top ten teams to go through the entire league statistically. This is something that is not at all easy to do, very few teams can even say that they have had a ...

The Joes Basketball team of 1927-1928 wasn’t just your average basketball team. They finished their actual basketball season with a record of nineteen wins, five losses, and one tie. The boys won their con...
Although many youngsters fail in the NBA, there are a few high school players who have had, or do have a successful career in the NBA. Some of these are, Moses Malone, Kobe Bryant, Tracey McGrady, and this year’s most valu...
Minneopolis Lakers of the early 1950’s were a dominant team of that era. The team was led by
Before Earvin “Magic” Johnson and his group of investors took over the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Dodgers organization was in one of their darkest times. During the time Frank McCourt and his ex-wife, Jamie, the fans appreciation and attendance was at it lowest point since 2000. The attendance for the Dodgers plummeted 17% from the year before. They also lost 200 million dollars that McCourt used to bankroll his lavish lifestyle. During the whole divorce between Frank and Jami, fans were calling for them to leave and sell the team. Before McCourt finally decided to sell the team, fans were playing to boycott McCourt during the season. On the day the fans found out that McCourt was selling the team, fans were joyous with approval on a number of fronts. One fan and lead sports columnist of the Los Angeles Chaves said “Take a hike, Frank. Don’t let Chavez hit you in the Ravine on the way out” (Moore, 2011). The buzz in Los Angeles after the team was sold changed so much after the team was bought. "Now we're here. And now, everyone is wearing caps again," Johnson said. "The jackets. The T-shirts are out. I work out at Gold's [Gym]. I'm there at 5 or 6 in the morning, and everyone is talking about the Dodgers. We want this to be the happening place again. We want people to come out. Well, you can't do that unless you win, and now everyone's coming" (Bryant, 2013).
For this assignment I choose to attend a Los Angeles Clippers game even though I am a big Lakers fan; mainly because it better fit into my budget and the appeal of watching this young high flying team made it seem like it was going to be a good night. Going into the game it was being dubbed as the “battle of the double-doubles” as the Minnesota Timberwolves led by Kevin Love and his 28 straight double doubles took on Blake Griffin and his 26 straight double doubles.
Ironically, existing Lakers Head Coach, Byron Scott, logged forty minutes in that game scoring seven points in a 126-115 double-overtime Lakers win. Speaking of memories, Kobe Bryant and company have beaten the Rockets three times in the postseason; 1999 First Round 3-1, 2004 First Round 4-1 and 2009 Semi-Finals

Can you imagine playing the game of basketball without a three point line? Basketball has constantly changed throughout history and continues to change today. The National Basketball Association has risen in popularity and is now one of America’s most popular sports. Because basketball continues to be a popular sport, a fan should learn about the origin of the NBA, how the game evolved from the late 1940s to the early two thousands, and how the players today impact the way it is played.
I’ve always wanted to know more about the history of the NBA. I do know about facts and other miscellaneous numbers about the past NBA, but I would love to find out about the origins of the association and also who founded it. I am a person that likes to know statistics and records and that is...

Basketball is a sport that has changed in various ways since its invention in 1891. It has evolved and expanded across the United States and across the world. Although it has had its ups and downs basketball is still a sport that is enjoyed by over 250 million people in this world. Today it is one of the biggest sports known and it continues to grow every year with new players bringing new styles and competition. The changes throughout the history of basketball can be shown through its origin, how it developed into a competitive sport, and its evolution into present day leagues.
Other than the trademark short shorts of the 70’s and 80’s, the game of basketball has drastically changed over time. Even the high-flying, basketball pro, Michael Jordan acknowledged that today’s game is not what it used to be, paying homage to areas that surpassed, but also the areas that, he believed, worsened. Many embrace these new changes, however, there are still many who believe that the NBA is slowly withering away and losing its edge; which will you be?
When the league was formed, the game was only made up of seventeen teams, both from small and large cities(History.com Staff NBA is born). The first NBA finals was played in 1947, and the first All-Star game was in 1951(NBA.com NBA Top Moments). However, through the 1950s fan support was lacking. By 1954, the NBA was down to only eight teams(History.com Staff NBA is born). This same year a person by the name of Leo Ferris invented the twenty-four second shot clock. This helped speed up the pace of play, which allowed the game to become faster and more exciting. In the 1960s the NBA was beginning to grow, but a rival league known as the American Basketball Association of the ABA challenged the NBA. However, this didn’t last long, by 1976 the ABA and NBA merged into one league. Another milestone for the
