Zombie Apocalypse 1014
What evidence would one look for if there was a zombie apocalypse one thousand years ago? The archeological record would be full of evidence needed to prove this event occurred. There are four important questions that should be asked to determine if in fact there was a zombie apocalypse. What evidence would be left by humans? What would settlement patterns would amongst the humans? What evidence would be found one bone? Finally, what would be evidence would be missing? To answer these questions first a definition of a zombie should be determined.
Zombies are reanimated corpse roaming aimlessly in search of a food source. Though a single zombie could be deadly, its slow and clumsy movement makes it easy to elude. That being said zombies are at their deadliest when grouped. A hoard of zombies is far heard to escape. As far as food sources, zombies enjoy the flesh of living human being, however they will devour and living mammal. Zombies are able to hear and also see, so they are attracted to sounds and movement. Now that the zombies’ behavior has been address, it will help in determining what humans would have to have done in order to survive.
The first question to ask is, what evidence would humans leave behind? There would be weaponry, settlements, mass graves; among other items. Humans would have to start to adapt to their new existence. There would likely be luxury items that were simple abandons. The survivors would leave very little refuges; due to the lack of resources the further from establish towns. They are likely to use every bit of what they have. As far as the burial of either of the remains, the process would very throughout the duration of the event. In the beginning the remains would probably have been abandon where ever they fell, especially in the bigger settlements. As time passed one it’s likely that there would be burials for the humans that were lost due to illness or injury. The remains of the zombies would most likely be burned, dumped in mass graves or left were they lie. Finally towards the end of the event burials of remains would begin to resume similar to pre-apocalypse.
The physical evidence is a good indicator of the event, however sometimes it is not what is present but what is missing that provides additional evidence. There would be a lack of population growth due to births. It would also would be a lack of technical advancements.
James Parker essay “Our Zombies, Ourselves,” informs readers that the zombie has almost outranked the vampire, and why they’re so popular. This undead monster originated from a Caribbean folk nightmare and was adapted over time by, the Halperin brothers, William Seabrook and George Romero and numerous others. Much like the vampire, zombies owe their fame to the progressiveness of technology, allowing them to consistently invade various media forms. The zombie has infested countless tv shows, movies, video games, and books, throughout the 21st century. Zombies themselves are soulless corpses who were regurgitated back into the world of the living. This making them rejects from the underworld, this presents the zombie as rejected yet inexpungable. What makes the zombie so popular, however, is that symbolizes everything that is rejected by humanity. “Much can be made of him, because he makes so little of himself. He comes back, He comes back, feebly but unstoppably” (Parker). The zombie represents humanity itself as well as what is rejected by humanity. A zombie is a monster that has been a horror movie legacy for many years now. Zombie is defined as “a dead person who is able to move because of magic according to some religions and in stories, movies, etc.” Zombies haven’t always been the creature that we see today though. George A. Romero merged the old-forgotten zombie into the standardized version we see today. James Conroy writes, “With his 1968 film Night of the Living Dead, George Romero brought the concept of the slow-moving, flesh-eating zombie into mainstream American culture.”
Zombies have become very popular due to their depictions of being easy to kill and being communal. Zombie apocalypses are also very relatable due to the fact that they are set in lives similar to our society and seem easy to overcome. Zombies, themselves, can be identified with because we see ourselves when we look at a zombie. Zombies drudge on through the same task of finding human flesh to consume every day just like we drag ourselves to either class or our job in order to sit through another boring lecture or perform the same menial task every day. The zombie race is very different. It doesn't not have many abilities and is not advanced like humans. Their behavior patterns are different. They cannot stand cold or winter weather. Their behavior is very different and difficult to calculate. They usually stand around lingering and waiting to attack when they hear something. They follow noises.Some abilities that they do have is that they have excellent hearing and can walk but aren't blind.The also can smell human blood. Zombies are generally weak but don’t underestimate what they can do to a human.
In Night of the Living Dead, the zombies were eventually eliminated. Or were they? Theorists argue that the monster’s elusiveness is due to its physical, psychological and social characteristics that cross the lines of classification. Human’s innate fear of the unknown is due to their inability to make a distinction or draw a clear conclusion. This is explained further in Jeffrey Cohen’s second thesis in “Monster Theory” that claims that; “the monster never escapes” (Cohen, 14). The zombie as a monster can never be destroyed completely and if it is, it leaves a remnant the make people feel uncertain of its destruction. Brains. Must have brains. There are a lot of far-fetched scenes that horror movies have filled in our heads over the years. Many elements of fiction have created varying degrees of panic, more so since the emergence of the false “Based on a True Story” label. There is one terrifying creature once thought to be fictitious that has recently gained popularity in the media as well as news channels around the world. A situation that would have negative global effects far worse than any other natural disaster previously experienced. But just what is this violent biological phenomenon that has people taking a second look at our understanding of pathogens and the effects of chemicals on biological organisms, you may ask. The simple answer is the very real possibility of a zombie outbreak. Zombies are a misunderstood being. The definition that used to be applied is that of a once living being revived from a posthumous state with a nasty appetite for flesh. However, the new definition of zombie is that which is being evaluated as an eminent fear. Zombies are widely accepted, currently, as a being that has been subjected to a biological change that incites rage, neurological defects and an enormous appetite for meat. Many factors contribute to zombies being considered a realistic threat to life as we know it; including but not limited to chemical products consumed by humans as well as viral infections with effects not previously researched in depth. Biotechnology is our best defense against our closest neighbors.
“Zombie killings are similar to reading and deleting 400 work e-mails on a Monday morning or filling out paperwork that only generates more paperwork, or following Twitter gossip out of obligation, or performing tedious tasks in which the only true risk is being consumed by avalanche” (41). These are all similar to zombie killings because zombies will never go away unless you turn to really harsh tactics like aiming for one’s brain with a shot gun and repeating this for every zombie you come in contact with. In order to clear those 400 emails after reading them you must repeat the steps for each and every one, which is time consuming and can be very frustrating. Completing paperwork is very tedious, and can sometimes become overwhelming you may begin to feel as if it will never end which is common well it can feel similar to that when it comes to zombie killings as well because there will be one zombie followed by another one and many more to come. “Battling zombies is like battling anything….. Or everything” (42). Never assume the war is over because it is not, there will be one or more zombies hiding out, the war is never over. “The zombies you kill today will merely be replaced by the zombies of tomorrow” (44). I have taught the facts, the opinions, and the theories on the possibility of a zombie apocalypse. I have explained with facts and statistic the ramifications of it if it was to happen, the way and speed at which it can spread, and the cruelty that will follow. You can protect yourself and the ones closest to you but first you have to believe it. Can you survive a zombie apocalypse?
In the field of philosophy, zombies are imaginary creatures that are used to illuminate problems regarding consciousness and its relation to the physical world. As compared to those in witchcraft or films, zombies are exactly like human beings in every physical aspect but without conscious experiences. However, zombies behave like humans and some of them even spend considerable amount of time discussing consciousness. While few people believe in the existence of zombies, many state that they are at least conceivable and some argue that they are possible. Consequently, there are arguments that if zombies are increasingly a bare possibility, then some kind of dualism is true and physicalism is false. This argument is the chief significance of the zombie idea for many philosophers though it also generates interest for pre-suppositions concerning the nature of consciousness as well as the relation between the physical and the phenomenal. In addition, the use of the zombie idea against physicalism generates more general questions regarding the link between conceivability, imaginability, and possibility. Generally, the zombie argument poses a problem of physicalism and attracted response from physicalists who attempt to defuse the problem.
Now a high-school senior, I still remember my freshman year with a shudder; it was the year my friends and I joked about as the "Year of the Zombie." It wasn't that I had contracted a rare medical disorder that transformed me into one of the walking dead. I had done what many diligent students do: sacrifice most of my sleep time for the sake of academic success.

Archaeological findings are essential especially when there is a lack of written primary sources. The most common findings in this field include; cave art, pottery, and weaponry used for both hunting and fighting. In later cases of archaeological excavations written evidence was well provided and artifacts recovered at the site were used as an aid in studying a particular culture. Moreover, it is quite obvious that all of the following elements pertaining to archaeology have positively contributed to our further understanding of human culture in previous centuries. Discoveries by archeologists not only give us significant insight into our past but they also give us essential information necessary for a comprehensive understanding of our present and our future.
Several points were also discussed within this chapter. Fifty years as the span of appropriate period wherein investigation of deaths is possible. Also, decedents are defined as skeletons of deceased persons. Lastly, forensic anthropologists’ modern and traditional roles were discussed within this chapter.
